Strain_searcher, you hit it on the head, bro. Alcohol is a poison to me when I literally consume it.......i can't quit........I know, I'm off topic.

Yeah tricky, if the bottom lower leaf/leaves are yellow, Nitrogen can just wipe the yellow away, in the proper proportion to everything else for vegging. But like strainwhore posted, too much water, too little light, can cause yellowing also. It depends on the immediate situation at hand, ya know?

Jello, yeah, you know now.....let her dry, use a full spectrum fert 20-20-20 like Rusty suggested (that has always saved the first onset of yellowing for me). Let your 48's grow a complete root mass that will hold all the soil or most of it without falling apart, before you transplant.

And also, pick up your pots every couple a days to feel how heavy they are, to determine their moisture content. Wait until they feel light when you pick them up before you water or feed again.

Jello, please keep us updated bro!

Des - no problem. Sorry if I was harsh. Alcohol f's with everybody.

Master BOG is the perfect example to follow when it comes to soil grows. He starts small and doubles pot sizes as they grow. Check out some of his threads to see what I mean.

Peace!

Thanks for the info on the size of the container issue.
I will try not using a container so large to start out in.
As for my plants yellowing at the bottom.
I think I need to top sooner and keep the light closer to the entire plant this way.
I belive my yellowing is a light issue on the bottom leaves.
Thanks all.
Peace

Strainwhore, double the pot size, that is a good one. BOG, yes, he is the pot size guru. And thanks for your kindness.

Tandare, what kind and size of light are you using bro?

Greenjello, how's it going? Are your AK-48's okay? That has got to be a lively strain. That will be interseting as you develop her. Keep in touch.

Hey bro, Tandare! Mighty good! Okay, I agree with your post on moving your light closer, as to the yellowing. You do have some decent veg wattage tho. Being fluoros, yeah, your gonna get stretch,..........I see why you would top 'em too. That sounds like a plan.

Now my baby HOGs are starting to yellow because they are so root bound and huge in those 16oz styrofoam cups. I have a tea brewing right now. It was BOG who suggested areating a tea for 24hrs before feeding. It rids the tea of acidic bacteria brought about the breakdown of organic compounds=a neutral PH. It works well and the tea is full of oxygen, so the plants and babies can use the nutrients immediately.

Greenj e l l o, where are you bro? Come forth the ole 48ter caretaker. Put the hair dryer down and please talk to us.....lol (drying your soil)

lol my plants are looking great! they are 3 weeks old and on the 4th node, with 7 bladed leaves. very bushy and short still maybe 5 inches tall. i have ak-48, WW, blueberry and NL x bigbud. yes i have too many plants, i will have to keep the strong ones later, and keep some under my 3 shoplight fixtures while i do as many as possibly under my 400w HID. i bought some Age old kelp and i fixing to start using that, as its supposed to really help out the plants and soil, and im using dynagrow nutes, yet i have not started using it yet, my plants seems very lush and compact and green still.

when do you guys think i should slam these under 12/12? i was thinking week 5?? i dont want 6ft plants since i have so many, but i wanna get alot of bud any thoughts??

"i wanna get alot of bud any thoughts??"

when you do feed them, feed at 1/2 strength.

you could flip them to 12/12 anytime now...

have you considered topping them yet? do it before you go 12/12, and repot again before making the switch, too.

any pics yet?

god i wish i had a digi camera, the wife says you can get one time users ones the size od a key chain for about 15 bucks, if i can score one ill post pics, they look amazing to be honest for my first grow, i have wayyy to many though i will have to thin out. i thought about topping them but i read that it decreses yield, any truth to that? do you think i can flower more than 8 under my 400 watt HID? i think i would be very happy with half oz-1 oz per plant but the more the better of course.

im a little scared on the nutes, i dont wanna over do it like so many ppl do, they are very green and lush right now i think the fox farm ocean forest is a wonderful product from seedling on up now, im sold on it.

do you think there is a benifit to foliar feeding with the age old kelp? or should i just add it to my waterings? btw my babies are in 1 gallon pots and the drain hole under the pot i see roots, is that normal and not a big deal? they couldnt possibly be root bound yet, what size pots should i tranfer them into at what size for the most plants and bud? thanks!

no cam, no big deal...its helpful if you have problems.

i have a 400 watt light, too...i am finding that 8 plants fit the 'footprint' nicely.

i have gotten some great advice here...(Thanks OH)...i'm using 2 gallon pots from about a week before flowering, they'll finish up real nice in that size (for me)...

being that this is your first run, top a few and decide for yourself as far as improving yields goes...

underfeed is an easier problem to correct than overfeed...try the foliar spray at 1/2 strength...see if they like it...be careful not to burn the leaves when using a foliar spray, though. the droplets can act as a magnifying lense and your light will damage the plants. i use foliar spray right before lights out...

keep the light about 12" away from the tops of the plants, and move it up as they grow.

keep us posted!!

i hope your fist harvest is a great one! :sasmokin:
