I just took these pictures - this isn't looking too good!



I lightly pinched that leaf, in the pic on the left, and it was dry enough to crack-off (circled in the lower right). These plants were watered yesterday w/ ferted//epsom/gypsum water, pH of 5.8. Here's the ferts I used @ 1/2-strength:




Soooo, now what's happening to these????

Your missing boron,copper, and molybdenum in your ferts. Find something better than 10-15-10. Let the plants dry out well between watering.

Looks like over watering to me and nute lock...or at least the beginning of nute lock...how about a nice gentle RO flush....and then lets see what the girls do...if its nute lock, the flush will have no effect and then you can use a Flora kleen mild solution...

side note...sproutco...your good..today is my 63yo birthday....and I might add, reading your posts is most interesting..........5 star material...thank you for all your information and help.....the world needs more of you and your kind...smile.

I just picked-up a bottle of SuperThrive today... So, if I use the MG and the Fish Ferts @ half-strength, and a drop or 2 of SuperThrive... would this work??

Should I now rinse out the ferts that I have in there now, and re-fert, or rinse now and use no ferts, or should I let my girls dry-out before doing anything farther? As I mentioned, I watered them yesterday (w/ Ferted water), the medium is still quite damp - and it takes about 4 days for the soil to dry-out. Not rinsing, then re-ferting would mean that I would be ferting 2X in a row - wouldn't that be a bad thing??

Its got more copper than zinc and manganese. But, all micros in there. It has all urea or ammonia nitrogen and little or no nitrate nitrogen.

I agree with Dr.G. Your soil has a very overwatered look to it and looks like mag. lockout as well.

I have done this so don't feel too bad.

I would suggest taking a fork or something and fluff up the top 1-2 inches of soil to allow more air in to dry it up.

After dry....slowly (to avoid root damage) fluff up down to 3-4 inches and flush with ph balanced (6.0) water.

P.S. Dump those old nutes....mix in a tblspn ea. of Blood meal and Bone meal. Then water with plain ph for a couple of waterings. Should help a lot.

Yes we hate miracle grow (with possible exception of their new "moisture control" product)......if you use superthrive only 1 drop per gallon please.....yes dump those nutes and get a better brand!!!

Your growth looks stunted (usually a pH problem) but otherwise not too shabby, really.....

Oh, for each gallon of my 2-parts promix/1part perlite/1-part vermiculite, I did indeed add 2 tablespoons of bone meal, and 1 each tablespoon of blood meal and dolomite lime. These plants were transplanted on 11/11/06

I'll ask again - should I flush all nutes out - do it now or after the pots dry out, in 3 or 4 days??

From what i see you have a nute lockout going a 5.8 ph for hydro is good for soil try and get it to 6.4 to 6.8 . Mag is more availlible in a higher Ph range .


Oh since you have just transplanted those into the soil w/bloodmeal and bonemeal you really dont need to feed them for allitle while .

This is probably your problem. Too young for adding blood meal and bone meal to the soil. You dont need extra dolomite lime if the soil already is limed. I think I would get them out of the new soil and into soil without these additives. Then feed the seedlings in the water with a fert that contains all the micros.

I add blood and bone meal to my mix when I transplant my seedlings, never had a problem. But why did you transplant so soon? Trying to figure out how old they were, 3 weeks from seed, is that right hun?

I think POMH is right in her other post about the seedlings being bogged down. If you transplant into nonoffensive soil, don't add vermiculite but alot of perlite to lighten the soil up. The seedlings look burned and soggy.

Example of low urea/ammonia fert... high in nitrate nitrogen with all micros --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Masterblend 15-16-17 Fertilizer - 25 lb bag

Description Masterblend 15-16-17 formulation contains 70% nitrate nitrogen and trace elements needed for soil-less mixes. This formula will help eliminate the problem of Nitrogen conversion that many other soil-less mix fertilizers exhibit, especially during the cooler, darker periods of the year. Higher Nitrate N gives the grower more precise control in a nutritional program, while producing a crop that matures earlier, with better shelf life and keeping quality.

These good ferts are sometimes called peatlite or soilless mix ferts. You don't have to worry about ammonia/urea toxicity problems because of the nitrate nitrogen.

This particular one is better for flowering because its high in p. 20-10-20 might be a better choice for veg but 15-16-17 would work ok in veg if every fourth fert you use stump remover with no p instead at 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. Greenlight and dexol are two types of stump removers but there are others. Just check the label for potassium nitrate 13-0-44. You can find it at hardware stores.

Dont mean to jack a post, but I also have that purlpe in the 2nd and 3rd pic on new growth of my 2wk old seedlings and its becomeing a common.(atleast in my last 2 grows) I just seam to run into this purpleing no matter what phase I'm in. My last grow got it bad in flower and I lost the crop. I have done things that make it better but then it always comes back in some form(I know how you feel I2CANGROW) I cant really think of what I'm doing so diff than my other 5+ beautiful grows.

Hey Icky - Welcome! (sproutco, POMH, Minds_I, DrGreen, GuineaPig, Kedei... Y-all: PLEASE don't go away!!!!!!)

I'm curious, are your "purple leaves" really brittle? My leaves (like in pic 1) were so dried-out that I just pinched them and they fell off. There's still some browning on several of the leaves, but all new growth is looking good.

I let the pots really dry out, then I flushed the heck out of 'em. The pH of the runoff was very high (about 7.5... I think this is why my leaves went purple and dried-out, Icky - nute lock), so I sprinkled 1/8 teaspoon powdered sulfer on the soil of each plant - per sproutco's advice to someone else... and watered the heck out of 'em some more, till I was happy w/ the pH runoff.

I added superthrive @ the end of the flushing (1 drop in a gallon of water), then followed POMH's "Words of Wisdom" (eh, "Let it Be") - I haven't done anything with them for the past 3 days. I also switched from 24/0 lighting to 16/8 lighting. I also placed a fan inside the growtub, blowing on the plants (made a mess w/ the perlite, it blew everywhere!!) Sooo, here's what I had this AM...


I think they're fairing quite well right now, but I have quite a few questions for the Experts out there:

I've read much about people having droopy plants after an 8-Hr. dark cycle, I have the opposite problem - here's pics of the plants when I got home fm. work this PM...


...They're drooping after a day in the light (260W CFL's) - if they behave like last night, they'll droop even farther - quite a bit farther.... Then perk-up again overnight. Temps do get cooler @ "night", usually around 78F during light, 68F in the dark.

Another question: I want to ultimately have these plants in 8" pots for a scrog (I made a really cool height-adjustable scrog screen!) - when should I re-pot these young women? BTW - they're now in 6" pots.

Any advice???

Hey sproutco - thanks for the fert advice - but I actually went with something smaller then your recommendation (20# of Masterblend would last more then a lifetime for me!) so I purchased 16-oz. ea. Dyna-Gro Grow 7-9-5 & Dyna-Gro Bloom 3-12-6. Click on the links for product analysis-es. I figured that these ferts, along with the Alaska Fish 5-1-1, Seaweed 0-0-1, and Molassas 5-2-17, I should be able to mix perfect 3-2-1, 2-2-2, and 1-2-3 ratios for the different stages of the plants life... and have all the macro/micro elements I need. Do you, sproutco, or anyone else see anything wrong with this logic????

Oh, one last question... these ladies are fairly short, maybe 5-1/2" tall. I have them fairly close to the CFL light source - should I be pleased with the closeness of the nodes, or should I back them a bit from the lights, to help them stretch some?

Whew - I think that all the questions I have for now!!!

3:2:1 is not a good ratio. Plants like equal or more potassium to nitrogen. Try 2:1:2 or 2:2:2 for veg. For flower you can use 1:3:2. Dyna grow is low in magnesium. You might add 1/8 teaspoon epsom salts per gallon of water along with it. Dyna bloom is low in both calcium and magnesium. You might add 1/8 teaspoon of both powdered gypsum and epsom salts per gallon of water along with it.
