Ogre x Ortega ...what do you think?

Greetings all,
I'm going to have some Ortega pollen soon and I was thinking about hitting a flowering Ogre girl I have with it. Any thoughts on the likely hood of the Ogres traits showing through? I know Ogre is a "mutant" pheno of Sensi Star but don't know the likely hood of that "mutation" carrying through in a cross.

Any input appreciated-

I thought Ogre was Ogre's Kush, but anyway if Ogre is Sensi Star it sounds like a good cross to try out. I bet you will find some heavy indicas in there.

Ogre(like in Trek) is a Star muntant..Oger is an OG kush hybrid..

My question is ...Isn't Ortega a clone only strain?

Is it S1 pollen?

sounds yummy.. :joint:

You are correct Sir!
I hit a Romulan, Ortega & Afghan with STS...let the wanna be breeding begin lol

I'm going to also self pollinate the Ortega...I know the Ortega cuts typically available are actually Ortega crosses. It'll be interesting what I find from the selfed Ortega.

Does anyone have thoughts as to the likelyhood of the Ogre pheno traits showing through if I use her in a cross?

Peace

That is correct. Ortega is part of Black Domina.
My cut is almost certainly an Ortega cross and I don't know if the Ortega in Black Dom was really a pure ortega or if that also was a cross. Regardless , this Orteg cut has some very nice qualities namelly being quite Potent & having a heavy yield and is a vigorus plant.

My Ogre is very easy to do LST, has a great smell, is frosting early in flower. It looks like it will yield very well for the size of the plant but it just seemed to stall after a month in veg and didn't get as big as I'd like. I'm hoping crossing with the Ortega will add some beef / vigor.

Hey GT, good to see you around. Ogre x Ortega sounds like a good idea to me. From what I know about genetics, it seems that whatever gene (hopefully only 1 for simplicity's sake) that's responsible for the big yield of ogre is probably recessive, since it's very rare. I think that this means you won't see it in the F1 cross, but if you make F2's (or backcross a male to the Ogre mother), they will have a chance of getting the recessive big yield gene from both parents, and it will show. I would use as many males as possible, to maximize the chance of the recessive making it to the next generation, but it still might be pretty rare. Good luck with the cross bro.

Hey DrKatz!
Glad you dropped by. Your thought process on the recessive nature of the Ogre pheno sounds solid. I guess I'll be hoping for boys from the first cross so I can cross back to the Ogre mom. Can you imagine the yield potential if I can get the the stars to line up and have the big yield trait of the Ogre show combined with the Ortega :yoinks:

The Ortega is a bit generic in taste & smell I think the Ogre could flavor up the party some :)

Peace

Oh wait...crap...since I'm using S1 pollen from the Ortega...wont I be seeing all females ( excluding any hermie bastards)

I guess time will tell....

I've never used STS to revert females, so if that makes a difference I don't know.. I do know that typically using pollen from a stressed female "re-vert" (typically) yeilds 90% females 10%hermis.. depending on the natural hermi tendancies of the female..
That being said I purchased a couple packs of the Oger Kush supposedly S1 and got a VERY TYPICAL male female ratio.. and the MALES were MALES and the FEMALES were FEMALES...
hmm...

males aren't unheard of in s1's, though definitely a rare exception...i've had a full-blown male from a pack of trainwreck s1's...it has seemed from my experiences that s1's that herm are from strains that already have a propensity to do so whether they're selfed or pollinated by a true male, but that's just my observances, no science to back it up...cut those hermies some slack, they're just doing what they have to in order to keep future generations goin in nature lol :sasmokin:

Very cool! Thanks for all the input. I'm starting to see tiny male flowers on the Ortega I STSed so things are moving along
