This is a little weird but is a very safe way to keep money hid but on hand. Buy stamps. Not collector stamps, just plain everyday stamps. They never depreciate, actually appreciate and act as cash. Yes, I once paid my rent with them to screw a pesky landlord. Legal tender says uncle sam but most coppers won't consider them something to confiscate.

if you are thinking about offshore then you need to read up on the laws. Try this site for example. http://www.rjmintz.com/ There is this thing called "treaties in force" and it means that countries (like Switzerland and Cayman Islands) will not hide your money. Also seeking legal advise on this site is probably not a good practice.
