I had a friend years ago that was a Handyman.

His company was called "Handy Andy's"

He was even more of a jackass than I am.

He was working on a fuse panel with a screwdriver standing in a foot of water in a house with some serious problems.

He managed to blow the 100 amp main fuse through his body to the water he was standing in.
It knocked him out and he landed in the water.

His buddy was standing in the stairway and wasn't going to step into the water to try to help him for fear of the water being electrified.

Andy was fine!! He wasn't electrocuted and didn't drown!!

All I can figure is that the electricity had a good path I ground and he's right-handed so it didn't travel through his heart??

I dunno? It's amazing how humanity has made it this far without everyone bring killed.

This is a picture of a playground from way back...

I don't know any kids survived recess. Lol

Ooooh you were talking about the prongs pointing UP. I thought you meant the metal pieces extending off the thing...

Well it turns out the little pointy extensions stick out less than a mm, so cutting them off is difficult and probably redundant if I'm covering it in silicone

I take it you guys have been zapped by LEDs too. I took one the other day to the back of the hand while pruning, definitely rattles you...glad it was only .1A or so.
Be careful guys.

The square metal pieces are the one-way clips that grab the wire going through the middle.

Sometimes they stick out 1/2" and they are hard to cover with silicone without using a huge glob of it.

I remember burning my lip doing hot-knives in high school.
I knew my mom would ask me about it so I thought up an excuse.

I told her that I burned my lip when I was blowing on my soldering iron to cool it off before I put it back in my toolbox after class.

The toolbox was plastic and would melt.
(Which was all true except I'm not dumb enough to burn my lip on a soldering iron but it was my first time doing hot-knives so I wasn't good at it. Lol)

I could tell by the way my mom reacted to my lie that she didn't believe me.

Don't ever try to lie to your own mother. Lol

I was watching the flood level under my my leds 640w frame one hand gripping the stainless steel flood tray i lent forward to grab i few stray clay balls that were floating ,1 hand in water other gripping steel tray
when my shaved head made full contact with bare 12,w led
yeah i went stiff n ducked head n thought well didnt kill me.
Thats 2nd time in a month.A

It's not the Watts of the bulb that determines the Watts that hits your hand or a bald head.

Depending on the actual bulb you're using, you may need to draw up to 15 amps or more to blow a fuse.

It's the resistance/conductivity of your skin that counts.

If you touch the top of your head to both terminals of the bulb, the best path to ground is the skin between the two points. Same with a hand.

If you touch one "prod" with your hand/head, the current can travel from your head/hand to ground, like your hand on a metal conductor, and maybe through your heart and cook it.

So Andyo...

Wear a hat and rubber gloves then clip and coat all your "Cattle Prods". Lol

Never been shocked by these and I don't plan on it! That's why I'm bringing up safety again.

Thanks for the help and guidance, PCBuds! I'll be getting some silicone today to gum up my taser-lights

Aww, Come on...

Everyone here has been zapped at least once.

It's part of the initiation process.

You can't be a full-patch member unless you've been fully electrified.... Lol

I remember being in electronics class in 1980 or '81...

The teacher held up a fully charged 400 V capacitor and said, as a joke "Who wants to tutts the capacitor??!!"
(He was Dutch and had an accent...)

I eagerly raised my hand to volunteer.

So my teacher brought me to the front of the class where I touched the terminals.

I found it interesting how my muscles contracted with the current, so I did it again to show the class.

I did it 4-5 times, twerking every time and we all laughed.

It's just too damn bad that teachers are no longer allowed to kill their students if the student is willing. Lol

I think I might rebuild my light fixture with 20 VDC LED strips and a proper grounded Meanwell driver...
(I think I should buy another square cookie sheet though...)

I decided to do the conversion...

Old SILs in the garbage...

I will wire it up tomorrow when I'm sober.

God knows that I don't want to get all deaded up. Lol

Good deal pcbuds! Good thing you got all those new strips! Maybe I should buy some of them soon after all, since working with these SILs could eventually turn south.

Oh and btw, we're at page #420 :joint:

Wooohooo page 420!
This thread has come quite a away and here's to finding solutions outside the box!
Still very much impressed with SILs and am keeping them close.
