I've never looked at trichs to determine when to chop a plant.

I look at the overall growth/condition of the plant combined with knowledge of previous runs to decide when to chop.

If I'm running a strain for the first time, I still look at overall growth/condition and will usually run the plant on the longer side so I can see what it looks like from early to late. You could take samples along the way but I haven't done that myself.

I do look at the whole plant too of course, that's why this issue is keeping me awake at night :smoke:
A plant that looks really ripe, but has no amber trichomes... that's why the argument with the UV radiation sounded interesting.

You've run the same genetics under different lighting, and it matured faster?

No I have not, that's why I'm asking myself what it could be...
I've grown plenty different strains and was always judging by trichomes once the plant looked anywhere near done.
And just now, after I switched to SILs, all of a sudden I have ripe looking plants with no amber trichs at all.

Btw I agree with what was mentioned about better taking the plants a bit longer than too short and I don't like the effects of some strains taken too early which are most likely weaker but somehow unpleasant...

Need help with my flower cycle lights.

Need help with my flower cycle lights.

I just ordered 6 ~ 100w/14w 2700k Warm White A19 LED Bulbs. 1590Lm

Is this sufficient to flower 6-8 Indica dominant plants?
What kind of yields can I expect?
Can I increase that yield by ordering 6 more bulbs?
Should I order a couple 5000k to add to these?
These are Flower Lights ONLY
What does removing the LED globes achieve?

My Crop:
2 will be LST Mainlining around their pot.
2 will be topped twice and trained to the side of pot.
2 will be micro grow in medicine bottles.
2 will skip vegetation and go straight into 12/12.

Here's a side by side from Palindrome

(scroll half way down.)

Now these are strips mind you but there are noticeable differences and you may be able to make some decisions based on uniform K.

The 3000K look excellently frosty, the 6000, 6500, and 8000 look like the best yielders. Depending on how long you veg and what your space constraints are, you could pull a couple zips from those 4 plants. Supplement CO2 of course.

As for the globes, they just get in the way. If you left them on, you may as well just hold your hand in the way of the light for all of flower. Pop them suckers off! As for adding more bulbs, you reach a ceiling at a certain point. Your best efficiency and usefulness will be in the ~30-50w/sq ft range.

I have the 7 socket splitters and my first run I flowered with 4 2700k and 3 5000k bulbs and got great results. Good weight and super frosty. This run I'm doing 5 2700k and 2 5000k and I am now flowering on 11/13 light cycle and so far the buds r looking fat and frosty and r coming up on week 4. Well send some pics when I can.

When you say 3000k, my 2700k falls in that category (Warm White), correct?
I've ALWAYS preferred quality over quantity. And Frosty is what I'm after for sure.
My 2 medicine bottle won't yield much.
And the 2 that are skipping vegetation, won't yield like the ones I've vegged. They're an experiment for rapid seed-harvest.
But I'd still like to have decent quantity of my quality, on my girls I've spent time training.
That's why I questioned if I should add 1or2 5000k or even meet in the middle with 4000k or am I thinking backwards and should add a couple 6500k?? Again, this setup is for my Flower Shower ONLY.
I have sufficient vegetation lighting.

I make my own wine 🍷.
The byproduct is CO² for my girls.

So I'm already reaching my ceiling point?
with 6 @ 14w = 84w

My flower room is the unused shower of my old travel trailer. 4'L x 2'W x 6.5'T

I'm not expecting my 4 straight-to-flower plants to take up much space.
So majority of my light and space hogs are going to be the 4 in my OP picture.

Did you observe much difference in 11/13 cycle as to 12/12? Is that 11dark, 13 light?

It depends on budget. It's less expensive in the short run to keep adding screw in LED's, when you don't have the budget to buy a large wattage light. :)

I've seen some amazing DIY jobs in these forums.
(edit: Excellent questions, btw. Well thought out)

All the answers ur looking for are in this thread. All u gotta do is read lol.

This is my 1st run with 11(light)/13(dark) with strains I haven't run before besides my OG kush but my OG kush this round is looking much frostier than last run on 12/12. Plants mature quicker so can be harvested sooner than expected but I flower for 9 weeks and then chop. U get a slightly less yield but better quality smoke and I'm just growing it to smoke it so I want quality. And it is quality. I've yet to find any bud on the streets that's better than mine. Even dispensary weed.

First grow ever. Been following this thread for probably almost 2 years now. It's super exciting checking the plants every night. Been running 12/12 from seed even though a couple are autos just because they are all in the same box. Some are ahead of others. Thanks for all the tips and advice everyone.

We're getting close! I checked a few trichs this morning. Everything's still pretty clear but it looks like there's a few clouds starting to develop. I don't normally check trichs other than when I chop.

pic 1 - full tent

pic 2 - BooBerryKush, courtesy of dank.frank at Stank Bros. She's a beautiful plant, fairly light aroma. First round smoke was kind of heady and a bit light, I'll evaluate this round and decide if she gets another go. She sure is pretty, though.

pic 3 - 'white cookies' bagseed. Fun looking plant, very different from everything else I'm running. Kind of minty aroma and flavor, nice high. She's definitely getting another run.

pic 4 - 'purple haze 3' bagseed. She's got a little ways to go yet. Dark flowers, dark berry flavors. Big producer, up, heady high but first round wasn't very strong. She's on the fence but probably won't get another run.

1st pic is my OG kush week 8 of flower. Other pics are of my purple diesal week 7 of flower.
