NARF!

NARF!

That would definitely be the way to go when vertical height is at a premium (pc case or tiny cabinet or whatever) and you could really pack them in there and have a LUDICROUS SPEED amount of lumens available for flowering. I just like the idea of being able to swap bulbs easily (swap in 100Ws or UVB or what have ya) and the cleats/sockets are cheap enough at around $1.40-$2.80 each. Seems like buying actual COBs would be a lot cheaper than buying bulbs and gutting them, but if you already have them...

Definitely a market for some prebuilt or DIY "COB in a box" kits in various wattages, I'm surprised nobody has really jumped in and made it happen (or maybe they have and I just haven't seen them).

ive seen some people do it, but its just if you can solder, you can do it yourself, so why would you get a diy kit made by someone else

i would just order a bunch on ebay if i had the cash, but i have small budget so getting a few bulbs at a time is the only way for me, as long as it can save me money on regular medications (both money and physical harm) im making progress :huggg:

Yep, whatever works!

Just meant that it's always easier to buy a kit with everything in it versus buying from three different ebay vendors and waiting on three slow boats from China and still not being sure if everything you bought will work together etc. (or just buying something that you only have to plug in).

What he said. I used an air powered cut off wheel, but I would imagine a dremel and a steady hand, a hacksaw or a pipe / hose cutter would probably work if you cant pop em off with a flat blade screw driver.

I actually was trying to pop off the cap on one of my LED bulbs, and the plastic cover shattered and I ended up cutting my hand pretty bad. So I would suggest cutting them off, or be reeeaaally careful if you use a flathead

I probably should have mentioned work gloves and safety glasses

Sorry if I missed it, but have you messed with different beam angles? I see 180 and 300 beam angles available. Not sure which to go with.

30w produced that. this is madness... i can't wait to see how weight compares to past cfl grows with like 25% of the power.

Cool to see the efficiency of the inverse square law in action. Assuming that the closest measurement is 3" [+- a bit maybe] then the 6" one [twice as far away] will be getting approx 1/4 the light and the 12" one [four times as far] should receive 1/16 the light, which agrees very closely with your measurements. The difference in actual measurements in the various table is roughly in line with a +- .5 inch error in placement of the meter.
