there are some new materials available that could be used for this
the taiwanese military have developed woven activated carbon previous materials were impregnated with carbon ,this stuff is apparently worth 1 cm depth of carbon granules ,maybe its used in these things?

I think odor control has more to do with carbon quality and particle size (greater surface area) than the total amount of carbon. It's the total suface area that's more important. This thing is carbon fiber mesh. Looks and sounds awesome...gonna pick one up and give it a try as I'm getting close to the replacement cycle anyway...thanx for the tip!

If the Carbon is thinner, does that mean it will work on an inline fan?. That's where the real savings are, not having to use a Centrifugal fan.

Please enlighten us on that OVEN CHARGING iof carbon-filters!?!

PS! OdorLOK claims to have a porous padding of active carbon that makes for larger surface area and another kind of efficiency, so to speak. Love to hear how they perform. (There ar soldiers using clothing of fabrics such as this to get closer to enemies without beeing noticed of smell sensitive guard/alert animals.)

well I do know of one intrepid soul who has given these a shot and he said that they are working a week in so far.

he also remarked on how easily they setup attaching directly to the intake of the hood without need for ducting and bungees to support a big can.

he also stated that they say that they are machine washable and dryer friendly too. he made similar remark about recharging carbon but putting it in the dryer at high temp for a while.

I guess the theory is that the heat somehow causes the carbon to give up the odor it has absorbed - then when cooled back to room temperature it is able to absorb more odor?

I don't know I'm just guessing at what the heat does - maybe somebody who has done this can explain?!?

new holland - what do you mean by inline vs. centrifugal? do you mean those "duct booster" fans when you say inline?

these things are rated by cfm and will create some back pressure just like a can filter.

there being tested in ReAl conditions right now in a few months youll hear more.

so far in Oz there selling for around $100 compared to 1m2 mountain air filter $180 but there only about 1/4 the size with alot less surface area sure isnt 1m x 1m.

Dont need a centrifugal fan but should use one if this is the means of air flow as well as air scrubbing

without long testing its hard to say how long they last but at there site they state there good for 12months compared to about 3 years of a mountain air filter. Hopefully you can replace the sock other wise there not all that cheep.

One of the pics i saw was 4x odor sok filters running from two rooms into Y connectors off one big centrifugal.

Ideal for smaller grow rooms where space = bud and when you dont have a frame that will hold a 20kg filter and centrifugal fan.

Even though that sock has a high carbon surface area, It lacks carbon weight. A small amount of carbon will become saturated quickly. This thing will work like a charm for a short time only. If they brought the price down to $20 and made it as a monthly throw away, I'm sold.
