ODOR-LOK SOK -- new product

So how does the Odor Lok (Sok™) work? With our unique tri-layer carbon matt system, Odor- Lok Sok’s utilize the best that carbon technology can offer, via the use of finely ground virgin activated carbon. Instead of reforming the carbon into dense pellets, the carbon goes through two unique fiber impregnation processes. The result is a carbon matt with up to an incredible 2400ID and up to10 times the available surface area of many palletized or granulated carbons. Now do the math. Just 1 CM of tri-layer carbon cloth can have the equivalent contact time as a carbon canister with a bed depth of 10cm, that’s how!

Anyone try these yet?

edit: here's a picture

supposed to be much cheaper, like under $50 for all sizes.

Apparently you can only buy it through their wholesaler and they don't list a price, or sizes. So guess it's not available yet? Would be interested to see how much it costs at least.

It's currently @ 70-80USD for the 300CFM version. Not too good IMHO

do you have to buy a new one each time the carbon is exhuasted, or can you re charge them in an oven like normal carbon filters?

if so id like to have two and cycle them, and re charge the one not in use.

Nice idea but your gonna have to buy a new one each time, so they are expensive.

Still cheaper than $105 or $175 USD for the can33-200cfm or can50-420cfm, respectively. Also if you are ordering instead of picking up at a shop the potential savings in shipping would be even more.

I didn't know you could recharge your normal carbon filter, I thought the carbon became activated by treatment with HCl acid - and once it was used, it was used up. I've heard of people drilling out the rivets on the can models and refilling them but not recharging them, can you explain a little more?

Activated carbon costs like £5 a bag, so it hardly breaks the bank. wouldnt be too happy about forking out £40 every year for a new odor sock.

well certainly it is cheaper to DIY a carbon filter. I'm comparing this item to other similiar sized pre-made professional filters

I had issues with my diy scrubber, just wasn't takin out all the smell...
I think this would be an excellent option for those of us who can't afford the big can filters, or who have no way of mmounting a 30lb filter anywhere...
If it works i'll be getting one... :D

Yeah that's the biggest question. It would also be nice to see some smaller sizes for micro grows. I personally love my can2600-98cfm and can9000-118cfm filters - I have tried DIY filters and they worked but air flow was restricted or else odor was not controled enough - plus I'm lazy so I like premade shit.

These things could be awesome - I could imagine attaching one of these directly to the intake flange on an air cooled hood and then ducting up to the fan. no need to have hooks and other things to support the big can!

^^^^Yes

Personally i cant see it having the performance of a proper scrubber, scrubbers hold more carbon and you only get out what you put in.
