Sci-fi,

Pine-sol may smell good, but contains Phenols which are toxic to humans and pets.
Please google this if you feel I am mistaken.

Yo instead of spending money on ona gel, Grab a bucket w/ a couple gal. of water and a cap full of pinsol with an air-stone in it. Works wonderfully and anybody who comes to visit thinks ur a really clean person. Hope this helps.
I've heard/read that method is not really a good idea due to the chemicals toxicity or someting along those lines....if u do a search on here I'm sure u can find it. Good vibez

A $9.00 jar of Ona or generic substitute will last 3 months.
That's not bad... but I'm open to other suggestions if any come up.

Cheers for the recomendation, I have a sort of cheeper Ona solution using their liquid and some water containing crystals. So a bit cheaper.

Carbon and coco are not interchangeable. Carbon refers to a charcoal filter and coco refers to coco coir the medium; Little hairs that come from coconuts that you grow in as an alternative (or supplement) to soil.

You need a carbon filter.

Actualy, the carbon in filters can come from different sources. One source being coconut fibers. That is where the confusion here comes in. Coco growing medium, yes that is a totaly different thing. There are threads I've read that go over the plus or minus of the different kinds of carbon or charcoal in filters. Here is a whole bunch of info on the different kinds.
I did hook up my FootHill filter and boy does it work. I cant smell a thing outside where my exhaust comes out.

i used to use bathroom outtake fans, silent too, no carbon filters, the out take air going into the roof helps as the air keeps rising, or its not down in peoples faces or rather noses eh"
+ growing a low odour strain would be much safer doing it this way, slyder i grew and it was really low on odour, good shit too", most dangerous time is drying i think, again the slyder plant isnt too bad in the drying department.

Freedom is worth something.

I would recommend a carbon filter, with an exhaust duct and fan. If you go with a cheap filter, buy a spare for immediate off-line backup. But redundancy by other means is a bit of insurance, so I would recommend using an ozone generator as well. If you use a small one (100 - 300 milligrams per hour), it could be mixed in your output duct. Larger ones should probably be on a timer to limit ozone levels if used in habitable areas like your grow room. Ozone breaks down rapidly, so a 15 minutes on / 45 minutes off cycle might do the trick. Finally, use of a deodorizer such as Ona on a separate timer would be a "good thing".

I am relocating my grow room, and I will be making use of all three methods simultaneously, as well as a UPS to power at least one method in case of power failure. Better safe than sorry. Someone posted up-thread that odor advertises your endeavor far worse than confiding in someone, which is quite bad enough.

Stand next to your plants and inhale/exhale that beautiful bouquet rapidly. mm mmm!

Fan+scrubber works wonders but costs $$. Cheapo route would be to mask the odor rather than remove it. Cleaning aisle at Target or Wal-Mart should present you with plenty of masking options.

the vent holes on the outside of my tent measure 5 inches. will a 4 inch duct fan & filter fit snug without allowing any air to sneak around the fan casing, or will I have to find a 5 inch fan?

Buy the best carbon filter you can afford or you'll end up buying twice like i did, got a cheap filter off ebay within weeks i was down the hydro shop buying a mountain air filter after my neighbour told me i needed to sort my air con out no more cutting corners with filters for me lol security is of utmost importance to the longevity of your freedom

My 2 cents: if your genetics are worth a damn, you gotta be straight up crazy to not be using a scrubber :2cents:

I managed to score an Industrial Grade Ozone Generator from an X grower friend of mine. It's a tube almost 2.5 ft long with a U.V. light *tube* inside.

I did a full flower with it in the room of 5 ladies and all I smelled in the flower room was Ozone. I'm a noob so I am still looking into the effect of perhaps too much ozone. But neighbors who woulda asked for a toke if they smelled it never noticed.

Peace.

I have a question that i haven't been able to have answered for a long time (or just haven't really asked in the right place). What is the proper way to set up a carbon filter in a grow tent? I always left one light open and had the duct come out of the tent and put the filter on the floor outside of the tent pushing air through. I've seen others who have it inside the tent. Should the fan be pushing air through the filter or pulling it through? I would really appreciate a good detailed answer. Been growing for a few years now and this still boggles my head :help:

Homemade carbon filter along with a stanley/lasko blower fans. Can't smell anything unless I open the cab, although, stanley blowers are loud.
