Odds of getting all males? (8 plants)

they say environmental conditions can play a part in determining sex.

Less light favors females---you ran your lights 24/0 to begin with.

High nitrogen , low potassium favors females.

Lower temps favor females.

A little update:

I switched my one female to 24/0 for a day, then to 20/4. The first day i switched to 24/0 i tried to LST my plant and ended up kinking the main stalk.

I undid the ties and made a splint to prop my plant up. The leaves drooped for a day then perked back up.

I've been under 20/4 lightning for a couple days now and it appears as though my plant is still flowering. Its hard for me to tell because in reality i don't know what to look for.

i say keep a strong male and pollinate a small bud. on one of your females...

or you could save the pollin...for a stronger female

It makes sense that the males would grow bigger faster, because they need to flower faster then the females in order to time the pollin release with the peak bud.
good luck to you next time.

256 to 1 ....
I would get me some Female seeds......up those odds......
and the lessons learned for starting a new grow from seed is
" Use 2 or 3 X more seeds than you want female plants when starting from seed "
OR
buy female seeds on the first grow....." take clones b4 flowering " all plants are now females you hope ( use good feminized seeds )

Or start with female clones......

Other wise you could end up waisting 60 days of time for 8 male plants......

I had Dutch Passion - Blueberry----10 seeds everything that germed was male
At the same time I had 10 for 10 females with Serious seeds AK 47

Who knows....but it happens...I have always found a solid stable enviornment is the best bet for producing the maximum amount of females the genetics and luck will allow..

a little update

Its been a year. I have since then revegged the one female plant. Turned that into my mother plant and have taken clones off that.

I'm just using Advanced Nutrients at the moment and having success with that.

Due to the learning curve, some bad luck, and some laziness it took close to a year for the first crop to be done. :)

I got 1 oz and a quarter.

Now that i got everything rolling i'm hoping to pull 2-3 ozs every 2 months outta my little closet.

Smoke Report of the Ambrosia: Not very heavy in resin. Flavour was nice and sweet, smoke was smooth, burned nice (white ash), stone was a nice up high.

I'm looking to pick up a nice strain now to see if i can grow some nice resinous buds that pack a punch.

Any recommendations?

my first dro' grow....i had 5 plants....all 5 turned out male....i was pretty pissed to say the least...i also had 3 in soil....and only one was female....

you should really have near 50/50 if using unfeminized, unstressed seeds

I only did three grows in my time here (hello again all), both of the last two produced all males. 10 seeds each time. I thought i was doing something majorly wrong but at the end of the day it was the law of the sod out to get me. With all the other nonsense going on with no job etc at the time I gave up growin completely after that, however i'm back and this is my first post since, hello all :p
Somebody did offer to sort me out some cuttings and send them to me, definate females etc, but with all the issues I had I decided not to bother. Now i've returned and hopefully it'll be mor eof a success this time.
Good luck.

Update:

Harvested for the second time under my 150 watt light.

This time I got 66 grams.

Next up is Jock Horror from Nirvana. Should be done in 5 weeks.

Like flipping a coin 8 times...

Odds of getting 8 males out of 8 plants would be:

2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 = 256 so 1/256 or 99.99609 % chance that would not happen. But, the chances of getting 8 females out of 8 would be the same.

lol.

...Have them growing in a cabinet under a 150 watt light...The remaining plants were vegged under 24/0 hours for 45 days

I know most of this thread is from a year ago, and congrats WheelsOG on your successful harvests since then, but...

Isn't 24/0 lighting for 45 days a little unusual?

I'm no expert, but I've never seen anyone on this forum talk about 24/0 lights beyond the "seedling" stage. Don't they need some rest occasionally?

Maybe your plants were telling you it takes a lot of "balls" to stay awake for a month and a half straight!

Anyway, congrats on improving your odds!

I have learned a lot in the last year and things are going a lot better these days.

45 days at 24/0 had a lot to do with me being lazy.

While on the topic, Do you think 18/6 would be better than 24/0 when vegging?

In my limited experience my clones and seedlings have been fine under 24/0. Maybe they would have done better under an 18/6 lighting scheme though.
