is it just me or does anyone else notice that the scene in which bubba dies in gumps arms and bubba asks "why this happen forest" is just over the top. like a side joke in the midst of a very serious and dramatic scene. really a "retarded"guy asking another "retarded" guy why something, an event no less of mammouth historical proportions, is happening. it was a joke the writter wrote in a sick philosophy joke a parodox or conundrum because how could one retarded guy answer that question as posed by another retarded guy. very slick forest gump writer dud, very clever.

lol i actually do know this
the feather is a biblical refrence it is meant to say that he is touched/blessed by god as if throughout his life god will stand by him protecting him along his odyssey. we studied this in one of my english classes years ago.

I thought he was killing himself, too. Then he swims around & shit. Definitely a great movie. And I don't know that Bubba is retarded. I think he just wasn't given a proper education.

I think the feather is just the way the make the story allegorical...that is to say it begins the same way as it ends. I also think it's sort of symbolic of the way Forrest lives his life...he is the Tao, the leaf upon the stream, or the feather upon the breeze, if you will.
I don't think Forrest's success in life has anything to do w/ being "touched by God" but rather his "stick-to-itiveness" in life...he never deviates from what he knows is right, no matter what. He loves Jennie no matter what, he basically shapes his life in the cause of keeping promises he made to good friends (finding Lt. Dan, starting a shrimpin' boat)

One of my favorites, all time.

Same here, its a great movie. Some parts are far fetched but if you take the movie as a whole and not its parts its amazing.

Nevermind

PS: Jenny is a whore!

"Gump, why did you dis-assemble that rifle so fast?"

"Because you told me to drill sargent"

"Gump, your a god damn genious"

^One of my favorite scenes.

What I love most about this whole movie is that he just kinda stumbles apon things, and eventually ends up experiencing more than most people ever will.
