Yeah...and. I think many go way to hard on N personally, I'm a 3-5-5 man all way through, I also firmly believe too high N delays some varieties. We want phenols or phenolics to increase. Found it
However, excessive nitrogen fertilizer significantly decreased the mechanical strength of stalk and the lodging resistance by reducing lignin biosynthesis in buckwheat, rapeseed and japonica rice [71,72,73]. Kong et al. [74] found that the addition of K+ could significantly alleviate the effect of high NH4+ on the wheat culm strength. Therefore, it was suggested that the decrease of lodging resistance induced by nitrogen fertilizer was possibly related to the inhibition of uptake of K+ which increased the lignin accumulation in the vascular bundles
Overview of Plant Phenolic Compounds
We want phosphates and glucose high production...so Nutrient for stronger stems?
Higher P in ur NPK...go too high in ur N and you defeat urself, even with Si supplementation
The silica I only do for maybe a few feeds during first three weeks. I've recently added higher K and been quite pleased.
