So I was in the grow shop yesterday... and I saw a giant bat-wing reflector like yours nukku, with a "heat diffuser" that sits under the lamp... and so I ask the guy "do people really buy the $40 piece to block the direct light?" and he responded "yeah, it actually does a really good job..." ha ha ha... Anyway, I'm happy to see you're not using one. We must know something they don't...

Actually, what that does is eliminate any "hotspots" coming from the bulb - it's actually really effective and you are able to lower your lights even more, getting even better penetration without burning. Really interesting piece of equipment, doesn't affect the quality or quantity, just "spreads out" the light a little better.

That is the response I got from the guy at the hydro shop, and it is complete bullshit. No offense to you. Light loses intensity when it is reflected. That piece lets some light through, and supposedly bounces the rest back at the reflector so it can be reflected back at the plants... now you've reflected the light 2x, losing lots and lots of intensity.

I hang my lamps vertically, no "light spreader" necessary. All of my plants get blasted with direct light. Nukku knows what I'm talking about.

If you're concerned about heat, there should be a fan blowing across the lamp... not a piece of metal blocking direct light... That's silliness.

Well I don't like to use that spreader thingy.. I been trying it on and only thing it makes is taking off light from the middle.
I can see it with eyes that It's much more brighter not using it and light is 10 cm higher than with the spreader and closer to the plants.
No hot spots when you blow air directly to the bulb like Bobble said..
