Now they just steal all the money you have saved and they don't even press charges. someone please reassure me that i'm not living in "1984". you have NO RIGHTS, the rights you think you have are just an illusion carefully constructed and inserted into your developing brain as a child. we are more slaves now than a black man in post revolutionary war Georgia, at least he knew he wasn't free, we live a lie propagated by our own government and culture.

DAMN!! so he stops some people from trying to rob his home, only to let the real thieves in.. . . .wow! if this doenst prove that the federal government needs its powers taken away, or to be eradicated altogether then i dont know what else is going to do it.

how is it when you do the wrong thing you come out on top, but the right thing seems to always get you caught up?

Although stories like these are undoubtly sad, it proves people have to be more 'aware' of the times they live in. We have banks now, and they would readily provide electronic copies of any check deposited, and any transaction made. Paper trail is very important for legitimate funds. The forfeiture law is crooked, but it doesn't hurt to be on guard against things like this.

sorry but this sounds like PR for a bank. many of us are disgusted with banks&many wish to avoid a paper trail.

i'm not surprised after all we live in the fascist states of America where the police can do whatever the f u c k they want and citizens let them get away with it.

Those of us who avoid a paper trail do it hide illegitimate funds or keep our hobby secret from the public. If you have legitimate money, there's absolutely no reason to keep large wads of cash under your bed. For a couple reasons, actually:
1. Banks pay you interest.
2. Money is safe when it's federally insured.
3. Most banks and credit companies have safeguards from theft.

Being as you are disgusted with banks, don't be surprised if the FBI suspects drug money when they find your stash. Take this how you will...

This sounds more like PR for common sense to me.

I find it hard to believe he has nearly half a million dollars from working in steel foundry.
I wonder how the police even opened the safe, it it were me it'd be in a closet sized safe welded to the floor.

The law of forfeiture basically says you have to prove you’re innocent. It’s terrible, terrible law,” he said.

This is absolutely wrong and he should get his money back. It shocks me the lack of due process that the government gives this man. I work in the finance industry and I often see how anti-Cash the government can be.

It pisses me off to no end because I believe one of the tenants of a government should be to print/mint untraceable but non-counterfeitable cash. Just eliminate the Patriot Act and do this and everything would be fine.

One mistake that this guy made was putting all his eggs in one basket! We can dump on the tyrannical government all you want but this is something that no one should do.

-Put some of your money in a 401-K retirement investment account just to save on income taxes, at around $15K a year you will pile up a nice legit nest egg alone. It is stupid to NOT to do this unless you claim you only make $10k a year or do not file income taxes and are really a full-time crack dealer!

-If you are going to keep a cash hoard split it up. Put some in a safe. Put some in a safe deposit box under a trusted family member’s name (even if it is just 10% say). Put some in a fireproof lock-box and bury it in concrete in your basement!

-If you got say an extra $5K put it in an offshore bank account. HSBC has an international website section and the minimum is $5k. No checksystems, extremely hard for a US court/IRS to put a levy on the funds as compared to a US based bank account that they would find easy.

Finally, I blame the general public’s stupidity on this manner for allowing the government to operate this way. Idiots that use only debit/credit cards make an easy paper trail for the government to track. Banks and big corporations love this and encourge this because they can make more money and secure/control the funds easier. I hear in Japan increasingly people use their cell phones to pay for things too. If you are one of these people, you are an asshat and are part of the problem! Use cash!!! And avoid taxation!!!

newbgrow, i agree w/ those points... but just normal banking activities have become so buracratic (sp?), for lack of a better word. deposit cash in a bank, many now treat it like a freekin check waitin clearence! sheesh i'm not up for listing all the many reasons...

edit- i realize i may sound wishy washy... i dont think its right that keeping your money at home makes you a criminal. but it does, so do what is necessary for yourself...

It sucks that the Gov can, and does do this--
However...my guess is that after he said he has been saving it for a lifetime....the dates on the bills did not reflect this-- There should have been somewhat of a time-line apparent in the bills--
Don't keep your $$ in one spot-- :bashhead:

we should all remember that even though he didnt leave any paper trail his rights were trampled, shouldnt he have the right to do whatever he wants to with his money? if i dont want to leave a paper trail its my right to keep my money at home if i want to. it just confuses me how we can swear to the world that we are an open and free society that fights for the rights of the citizen yet every time i turn on the TV i see another example of American hypocrisies... maybe i should stop watching TV.

i wonder how much pot the guy had. if he had a few pounds then i could see the cops claiming that it's drug money. but if he just had a 20 sack then that is seriously ****ed up. but still why do you think they chose to rob him instead of someone else? maybe becuase they know he sells drugs and has a large stash of drugs and/or money in his house

if he was a drug dealer, he wouldn't be bitchin about his money. he'd have a lawyer on retainer and be in the FBI's ass already. the problem is that the law is far from constitutional. if he wants to win the fight, he ought to fight it from that standpoint. we're innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around as HCSmyth quoted from the article.

i still don't get why the FBI jumped in at all? sounds like they smelled a pay day and came running.

just proves how the government and all of its branches are criminals...considering they are stealing from a man who had a good job at a steel foundry....

not only is it him getting the punishments, look at all the innocent marijuana users in jail costing us tax payers millions upon millions of dollars, i'll agree that drugs are bad, but in no way is marijuana a drug

they want to take the non-traceable aspect of money hence the credit card...money with be all computerized...no unknown transactions get ready for the nazis to come out...scary thing will really be to see how the majority of the population will accept it.... :badday:
