Not so Thick Nugs

Wouldn't that mean that SOG plants flowered would be airy and loose?
I've done SOG and flowered at less than 8" and those plants finished as one tight medium sized main cola??
Mayhaps you have a Sativa on your hands....

I have had tight nugs in a Sog...but under the same conditions...with the same strain from clone...I found the longer vegged plants seemed to get denser.

Of course I've been called dense myself...so maybe I don't have a clue.

No dude your quite well dialed in, I only SOG once so I totally agree, well trained and supercroped plants are where it's at IMHO.

Another thing is internodal distance, you need at least a few nodes close together per budsite to get enough sunleaves in the right spectrum for dense buddage, a densely noded plant is a high yielder from what i've experienced.

Keep the theories rolling.....

I am noticing something in my garden right now. I have recently started using silica blast, and the stems are much thicker near the top....this has made for much nicer looking bud sites at the top. It looks as though I'm gonna get a few monster colas...but I'm only in week 5 right now, so the theory is still a little premature.

definitely worth keeping an eye on though. I heard thicker stems equal a larger highway for the nutes to be transported up to the colas.

Cheers,
SH

I've noticed the same, I use a suppercropping technique to thicken the stems and keep the stretch down to a minimum without topping too much or tying shit down.

A good friend of mine Aloonharja (sp?lol) recommended a solid source of silica in the soil mix, some types of clay work very well here, the same results are like what you are describing here.
Keep us posted on those ladies, I've had very good results with Michorizae products with every transplant, I even used the Promix HP with Mike already in it, the babes like it alot.

I will try to update...maybe with a pic or two in a week or so...I may even have some of the girls without the thick stems to show the comparison.

I have the Micho going, as I use EN/EA. Been using it so long, I can't tell if it makes a difference or not.

It's genetics and co2 most likey, maybe over ferting killed some of the bud growth. All I can say (for cheap co2) breathe on your plants. Set up a chair in the grow room and just chill it out , drink a beer and set up the tv so you can lounge in there for awhile. Trust me, your going to exhale enough co2. The genes u got lined up sound good, sourd x tw sounds awesome. So now you've got the genes and a small source of co2 so better not fuck it up this time! (jokes :D)
