Not Pot, but Cactus. I need help working with it.

I need help, this thing is dying to be repotted, but I don't know where to start. This thing is tall, and I don't want to touch it exactly. I was thinking wrapping it in a towel, but the spines are rather large. I know this is a cannabis broad, but I figure someone may have an Idea. I really need help, and don't know how to replant this thing without injuring myself, or the plant. Also, anyone know how to take a cutting? Cut from the top? will the top be okay, anyone know of a guide or website to refer me too? Also, does anyone know what sort of cactus this is. It was given to me as a gift from the mom of an old friend of my ex's, so I can't exactly ask them.

Wrap in an old carpet remenant. The carpet baking will help with the spines but is not 100% protection.

i wish I knew what sort of cactus it is. It is not a "psychedelic" cactus if thats what your after. Old carpet, theres a good idea. Old Carpet, mixed with thick gloves should be a good enough, I hope. Now I just need to learn more about cuttings. I want to cut a few inches off the top and replant it. the lady who gave it to me told me about how easy it is to make cuttings. she did more of less force the thing on me considering her one turned into about 50. This was a small one, and has only grew a few inches since I got it.

It looks to me like a San Pedro cactus. They have mescaline in them. OP, Google is probably an easier place to find your answers than here.

Edit: do a google image search for san pedro cactus. i do believe you have a psychedelic cactus there.

i got a cactus in my kitchen....its gotta be over 6 feet tall now. now idea what kind it is tho. it looks just like that one. (but they all look the same to me)

IT'S A PLANT PEOPLE... hahahahaha. are you lookin for specifics or just how to hold the damn thing. i figure it's got this x pattern if you look from the top down. maybe you can slip your fingers in the groove and get a nice grip. if not, that carpet idea isn't bad. the point is finding something flexible and hard. as far as transplanting it, i would treat it as any other plant.. get some dirt prepared in a bigger pot, dig a hole, and pop that baby in there. they do it from small seedlings to huge ass trees. same process.

Yah wear gloves and use carpet or burlap or aomething. Some of those have fine needle like hairs that will forever drive you nuts. I tossed a prickly pear for that reason.

You can cut off the top and plant it, it should be fine. The one's you see in the nurseries with the coloured cactus on top of a stalk are two different species grafted together. If you cut it it will probably grow "arms" out the top after.

Use well draining cactus soil with lots of sand and perlite for drainage and good luck!

Sorry, I was referring to the LOL. Also, i'm aware of the replotting process, thanks its just these things have quite large, and sharp needles. so its not like I can just through on a pair of gloves. I appreciate all the help though. thanks! I knew you guys would be of some help

get some thick bbq gloves...should work for touching it.

as for soil they make cactus soil..wally world sells it. get a bigger pot ready and when you go to transplant just be careful...you should be good. nice looking cactus man im jealous, i think im the only person to kill a cactus.
