The thing about freak weather is it can happen. Your playing the odds that it won't happen this season if you continue.

This has been the warmest winter in recorded history for North America. That still doesnt change the fact that my frost sensitive plants will not be transplanted until late May. I have lost that bet too many times. ;)

BTW, Cannabis is very tolerant of a little frost. My frost burned plant continues to grow, not far behind the control plant. Amazing recovery from -5C/25F. Tomatoes and Peppers on the other hand are killed by a single night of 0C/32F.

Hey Wamen...I'll be getting these into the ground around the middle of May..weather permitting...I'm not concerned on how big they get in the cups before they go out...I like to match the spring veg that's going on...when local vegetation gets going..so will I...deer, moose and many other herbivors would love to dine on my ladys after eating crap all winter

Hey T...an Alberta Clipper is a major cold wind coming from the west..right Stoner..stay safe..

Right on :D

They call it an Alberta Clipper because it moves very fast, driven by the jet stream. Basically, it is a high pressure storm system from the Arctic that forms over northern Alberta.

In the days before satellite weather images, it would strike without warning and drop the tempetures 20C over a couple hours. It is usually accompanied by high speed winds and chilling cold. These days, you can count on a days warning.

The golden horseshoe and the mid West are in the path.

...An Alberta Clipper is born on the high plains east of the Canadian Rockies. The average clipper then dives southeast, into the Dakotas and Minnesota, and then arcs eastward across the Great Lakes. On this track, a clipper stays hundreds of miles away from the mild waters of the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. This means your average clipper is moisture-deprived, so it won't drop huge amounts of snow. Instead of two or three feet, it'll leave just a few inches on a narrow track that goes by places like Milwaukee or Detroit.

:badday: 20c? I never seen weather change that much. *knocks on wood* If that ever happened we'd have N.Y. prices in toronto.

Alberta Clippers come from the northeast for me, with bone chilling temps.

Sometimes they'll pick up moisture from the big lake and dump it as they pass.

In the days before satellite weather images, we relied on the aches in our old joints to predict it's arrival.

enjoy

Along the eastern slopes of the Rockies, the Chinook wind provides a welcome respite from the long winter chill. Few people spend very much time along the eastern slopes without experiencing these wonderful warm winds. The change can be dramatic. On Jan. 11, 1983, the temperature in Calgary rose 30°C (from –17°C to 13°C) in 4 hours, and on February 7, 1964, the temperature rose 28°C (51°F°), and the humidity dropped by 43 percent.

Some weather systems can top that.

There is one called the Siberian Express, comes over the North Pole and freezes everything solid down to Florida.

The thing is, they are rare, freaks of weather.

When I lived in Calgary it was unbelievable to see the Chinook coming...it would heat right up during the day...you'd be in winter coats one day and shorts the next...stay safe..
