Nirvanas seeds seem to have too many purple phenos

how many of you guys and gals got a purple plant out of nirvana seed packs,p.s not gypsy nirvana....The purple ones allways where the weakest ones lets just say no more nirvana beans for me.

here is the proof. this the purple one , the green one was way more stoney,oh well.

I've used Nirvana Seeds exclusively (apart from bagseed on my first ever grow) and out of 36 planted seeds I've had a germination rate of 90%+ and no purple phenos at all. The varieties I've tried of theirs are Northern Lights, NL x Shiva, Misty, and California Orange Bud.

I'm not surprised that the purple phenos aren't as potent as the normal ones - anywhere that's purple is so due to a lack of chlorophyll, so the purple tissue is unable to store light energy as efficiently as green tissue (it can still absorb certain wavelengths of light, which is why it appears purple and not white).

To add, in the past, we've been known to sow 100's of Nirvana's 'Haze#19xSkunk' with 98% germination rate.

^^^^^^^^^lol^^^^ thats some change, nobody whants that in the dam.!! lavander is the best and top notch purple weed.

When I researced which seeds to buy from Nirvana I ended up deciding on Papaya as one of them.

I had seen around 10 dif grow reports in the OG strainguide, and at least 20 people on OG growing it in threads. I had never seen a purple plant.

I started 5 Papayas and got 3 girls and 2 guys. All 3 girls were purple. 2 had complete purple buds and one had purple leaves and purple bud highlights. All showed purple in the dead of summer so it wasn't temps. I also flowered out one of the males and killed the other. The male I flowered was also purple.

None of the 3 girls was comparable to the descriptions of Papaya most peeps gave, taste and potency. The only good thing about them was they had purple trichs, and if you grew enough you could make some cool purple hash, but that's about the only redeeming quality.

I thought I was the only one to ever get this with Papaya but when I started to look around I found 3 other growers who bought Papaya around the same time as me and they ended up with purple plants.

I also started noticing much more purple White Rhino and AK48 phenos in other peoples grows. A few other strains aswell.

It almost seems like the seeds I got were the complete wrong straing as they looked nothing like any of the papaya that inspired me to buy the strain in the 1st place.

Maybe some x-pollinations? who knows.

i have heard that starvation of nutrients (actually heard it was phosphorus) at the end of flowering can induce that color in lots of plants.

i had one NIR WR that started turning purple at the end of flower, but it was the smallest of the WR plants i had grown in that lot (low vigor). not sure if the others would have started turning had i flushed longer.

the purple colored plant tasted and smoked better, so that lends some creedence to the idea that it is a good flush that will bring that on.

What about Grand Daddy Purple? You can't buy it from a seedbank, but it was tasty and had a good stone. I liked it!. And what about FLO from DJ Short? I haven't tried that although I have blueberry seeds.

I have some C4 x Black Russin seedlings in veg now. I hope they don't dissappoint. They were by Heath Robinson. A freebie from Doc C.

It's not the color of weed that makes it more potent or less potent. It's the genetics of the plant and the growers abilities to bring out the best traits in a plant that counts the most (in my opinion). Also, harvesting your plants at the perfect time is also key to getting the buzz you desire (which also varies for each individual). The maturity dates a breeder gives a strain should only be used as a guideline...

Personally, I feel many people don't give a strain the proper chance it might have deserved unless they grow out the strain a few times. I guess I'm saying to jugde a plant on a single grow might no be the best approach...although first impressions do make an impact, it's not enough to judge it's whole potential. Colors should have nothing to do with potency.

I grew out a whole pack of bubblious and half were purple and very berry smelling...the other half was pure bubblegum....I also grew out some california orange bud that came out purple...was in the summer in florida so it wasnt temps....I also grow the papaya and love it....smells of mango and so much resin they have to be tied up....favorite nirvana strain so far... as for the Blueberry and flo from Dj short...I love flo....real old school taste when cured.....and who doesnt like blueberry....

no moms of the purple rhino where kept. sorry ezra. Its almost like nirvana , they have all the variety of strains sperated,then just took a bag full of purple seeds and devided them equally and mixed them in with all there other strains? I whonder what nirvana has to say about all there purple plants in most of there seed packs, like almost 50% will be the weak purple plants.....I wish i took a pick of the ak-48 i just harvested, purple of course

ive grown durban poison, jock horror, nlxhaze, aurora indica, and afghani from nirvana and haven't gotten a single purple pheno or a plant that i could complain about. most have been pretty uniform and well worth the $15 a pack.

Damb your right dude! thats crazy...so did some research on them and the only things can think of is that there both WHITE STRAINS! maybe the white strains have the same mom or something????

GOOD WORK UNREG^^ white strain in common. some body is catching on.. btw this is not breeder bashing..... this is to get to the bottom of all these purple plants in nirvanas seed packs. Gypsy has nothing to do with this. Gypsy is 100% legit authentic,straite from the breeder to us ..

i'm pretty sure most of nirvana's strains are the local amsterdam shiva, white widow, rhino, etc clones crossed with a skunk #1 daddy.
