Salt cumin black and red pepper. My stomach refuses saturation with grease but is fine otherwise. The aversion to grease (not fried chicken or fries) is total and I clearly remember everyone yelling at me when I was a kid for trimming fat off steak and having a tough time with it. I reject it like mayonnaise. I was not that long ago eating mostly refried bean, cheese, and rice burritos. Then they say rice is full of arsenic (banned for residential not agricultural use) and I've eaten enough to kill several people.

Yeah I've made my own dough. Baba but it's a pain in the ass without a mixer.i can make other food but dough and me got a problem! Maybe eggs is the secret to stretching dough.ill figure it out one day.

I'm gonna snap if Brady wins again!!

i dont blame you for trimming your steaks,goJ
its nice to have the fat on the meat while cooking but i dont want to eat it
ive use a lot of cumin and smoked paprika when cooking, right up there with garlic powder and onion powder

egg and flour make the best noodle dough hawk and one of these days i might have to try making it into a pizza crust
its not that hard once you get a feel for it (it literally is a certain feel you want to your dough), then just let it sit for a while and its good to go

Do you mean Wentz’s contract is toxic, GJ? He was certainly well-overpaid for being a bottom 5 QB this past season, and even in 2018 and 2019 wasn’t really much better than average most of the time. He just hasn’t been the same since his knee injury, which is strange because RB’s bounce back from ACL tears all the time and have good seasons afterwards, and their job involves a lot more running and cutting than any QB not named lamar Jackson.
Ah yeah, love me some bacon fat as a butter substitute. I don’t often fry up bacon but when I do I usually save the fat in a jar and put it in the fridge. Gives that extra ‘bam!’ to grilled cheese sandwiches, or most anything really.
That’s interesting that you cant stand the taste of olive oil, it’s considered a very mild tasting oil. But it seems like you can still eat great tasting things (fried chicken and fries) and I don’t like a lot of fat on my steaks either haha, some fat is good but not a great big hunk of it hanging off the end of the meat, that goes to the dog. And what’s this about rice and arsenic? Gonna have to look that up…

Yeah, some big moves in the QB market, the top 2 picks from the 2016 draft got traded to new teams, Breezus might retire, and we haven’t got to the draft yet. The eagles pick #6 in the draft so I wouldn’t put it past them to select a QB if one they really like is available, I think their GM said a couple years ago they’d like to be known as a “QB factory”. But I agree, hurts will be interesting to watch next year, their last game of the season against WFT, who have a really good D, he had poor passing stats but still had 2 rush tds.

Jet’s pizza is the big Detroit style pizza franchise that I know of, theyre in IL. Also I think pizza hut recently came out with their own Detroit style pizza, it very likely wont compare to jets just cause they use cheaper ingredients but it might be alright. Really, the only thing ‘special’ about it is the crispy, greasy crust, with the cheese caramelized at the edges too. If you find a place that cooks their pizzas with thick crusts in seasoned pans you can get something very similar, just not square.

Rice and beans contain a complete amino acid profile, so you don’t need to eat meat along with it, maybe some veggies for vitamins and minerals, etc. It’s a staple food in central and south America, and great for people who cant afford much meat. I think soybeans (tofu) and rice serve much the same function in asia, cheap and filling and contains enough protein so you don’t need meat.
Ive never made dough with eggs, only with cakes and pastries. A nice egg bun is always good, and if you mix enough eggs and butter in the dough it becomes brioche, maybe too sweet for most sandwiches but great for French toast and PB&J. Pop is right, once you get some experience with it you can tell by the feel if it’s right or not, whether you’ve added enough water or kneaded enough. I agree with Hawk, the kneading can be a pain especially if you don’t have a lot of counter space, those kitchen aid stand mixers are dope but seem like a waste of space if you don’t use it a lot. growing up i had family that saved their bacon grease and used it in cooking or to spread on bread

so i looked up detroit style pizza in san diego was was pleasantly surprised by the results
we have a place called angry petes that looks interesting and another joint called square pizza

https://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=detroit-style-pizza&find_loc=San+Diego%2C+CA

i might have to check out the angry petes
you mentioned a couple things you look for in "detroit" style pie and they seemed to check off a couple of the boxes right off the bat
from yelp review,"...Their Detroit-style pizza had a great crust that caramelized in the pan; the inside of the crust was light and fluffy..."

i was thinking the same thing about making the noodle dough into breads by adding some butter and maybe some yeast
you dont need that much space to make your own dough, just start witha couple cups of flour (get the good semolina kind or something like that) and a space about teh size of a baking sheet
make a little volcano with the flour
crack a couple eggs into it and start working it slowly at first from the center out until you can work the whole thing into a ball
spend some time working this to fully incorporate the flour/egg (some people add oil, but i will use water if it feels too dry)
the trick is to use your shoulders and body here not just your arms
/you can tell me you cant work some dough hawk', ive heard what you can bench
its good for your forearms and give you strong hands
thats about it
once you have it feeling soft but firm, just let it sit covered with a kitchen towel, or if you are not going to use it right away or you can wrap it in a plastic wrap and throw it in the fridge
/you can also freeze it

philly has had its share of pretty good qbs in the past but i dont know about being a qb factory
/what does that even mean in the nfl?
normally if you find a qb that is top shelf you try and hold on to them
i like hurts and think he has a lot of potential
who would you say were the top qb picks in the up coming draft?what other position do you think will have some good prospects
last year we saw a lot of good wr talent plus a decent qb (or two)

Bacon fat used as a spread instead of butter? That’s next level, but so simple why didn’t I think of that?!?
That Angry Pete’s joint looks interesting, you can get a whole pizza for $18 or 4 slices (same as a whole) for $20. They have a I&O style burger pizza, maybe you can get one slice of each and that will give you more variety and doesn’t cost much more than buying a whole ‘za. Detroit style is pretty good if you like pan pizza, even with such a thick crust there were enough toppings to balance it out imo.

Ive seen on those cooking shows where they lay out a mound of flour, create a little crater in the middle and then crack eggs into it, etc and then carefully mix it all together. Looks kind of fun to make. How long do you knead it for? Im with Pop, ive looked up kneading techniques but I don’t know if im good at it, although I can tell the dough is getting ‘stronger’ the more I work it. I guess you can overwork the dough too. Just takes some experience I guess and maybe some bad batches of bread before you figure it out…

That was what the eagles GM said after drafting hurts in the 2nd rd last year, they wanted to be a QB factory. But I get what youre saying, they were in the 2nd year of wentz’s big contract extension, if you have your franchise QB then he’s your guy, but maybe the gm was referring to having a good/great backup is key, like when foles led them to the superbowl in 2017. Most teams don’t have good backup options, the packers aren’t a playoff team without Rodgers, same with the steelers, but the saints and KC manage to win games with their backups. But fwiw, the eagles got some decent trade value for wentz and have a promising starter in Hurts. It’s often been said that a good QB on a rookie deal is the most valuable asset in the NFL, so maybe they can keep cycling through cheap rookies, trade them when they get too expensive, and spend their cap money on both sides of the line, offense and defense.
Trevor Lawrence will go #1 to the jags, but some people think zach Wilson the QB from BYU is now the #2 QB in the draft, ahead of justin fields from OSU. Then trey lance from ND State is the #4 QB, and mac jones from alabama is the #5 QB. Ive seen a few mock drafts have the bears picking mac jones at #20 in the 1st rd, with the other 4 QBs going ahead of him. Not sure how I feel about that, although mac jones had numbers comparable to or even better than Tua’s, that ‘Bama team is so loaded (NFL caliber line, RBs, WRs) that it’s hard to imagine he’ll perform well on a bears team without a lot of talent on offense.

"...a good QB on a rookie deal is the most valuable asset in the NFL..."
too true man
plus hurts was a second round pick so his contract is a lot lower than a first rounder for the next few years (4trs in the 2nd round)
lawrence going to the jags sounds right, but that kind of screws minshew and while he would be one of the best backups in the league*, he might not be happy taking a back seat to a rookie
/minshew would probably start the season but lawrence would be the guy they are waiting to play
what kind of competition does nd state see? (wasnt that the moutain west div? )
i hope the bears find their qb in the next draft
there is a lot of parts here and we will see how they fit together, but i tihnk the qb market could be hot this off season

*fitzmagic is best i tihnk and the rams might ahve something in wolford

Do you mean Wentz’s contract is toxic, GJ?

Big contracts have toxic effects. They are toxic. Consumer Reports tested dozens of rice products for inorganic arsenic and Uncle Ben's brown was near the top. Not to worry! everyone says. RICE IS TOTALLY, COMPLETELY, UNBELIEVABLY SAFE

as long as you eat less than a half cup per week

what about a decent brand like cal rose? is it something to do with instant style rice?

Yup, Hurts is only making 1.5M/yr, compare that to paying wentz 32M/yr for worse performance and it was a no-brainer for philly to move on. Good thing for the colts is that if wentz continues to suck next year they can cut him without any cap charge in 2022. Plus I think even if he stays the colts wont have to pay him as much as the eagles were paying, he's got 4 yrs left on his contract at around 25M/yr which is cheap for a good QB (the eagles paid him close to 40M this past season which is why the rest of his contract is more manageable).
I think Lawrence had surgery recently on his non-throwing shoulder but if he’s healthy for all the mini camps (if they have any this year) and training camp then I’d be surprised if he wasn’t the week 1 starter. Minstache has his good qualities (he was pretty bad last year because of a broken hand) but if Lawrence is the next Andrew luck/generational QB prospect then he has to be able to beat out guys like minstache as a rookie.

ND State is an FCS team (formerly known as Div 1-AA) and plays in the Missouri valley conference. They only play FBS (Div 1-A) teams a couple times a year but they do pretty well, NDSU is basically the Bama of FCS.

With the #20 overall pick, I don’t think any of the top QBs will fall to the bears, even mac jones could be gone by then and he would be the 5th QB chosen. So the bears would either have to trade up (didn’t work out so well last time they did that, picked trubisky lol) or wait to draft a prospect. Kyle Trask from Florida might go in rounds 2-4 and he was pretty darn good, was even in the Heisman conversation for a while.

Huh, I hadn’t really heard of arsenic in rice being a problem but you learn something new everyday. But isn’t arsenic in everything, it’s just that rice, and brown rice in particular, has more arsenic than other grains? But pop has a point, people in asia eat rice for every meal, shouldn’t there be some wide-spread health issues now if arsenic in rice was a problem? But from what im reading, it says maybe it affects infants more than adults, but again, im sure babies in asia start eating rice as one of their first solid foods so if this was a real health issue wouldn’t we be seeing lots of problems now?
Calrose is great rice, Pop, much cheaper than the real Asian imported brands but just as good. They sell it at the sams club here, I don’t eat rice everyday but probably go through a couple 15lb bags a year.

calrose is one of my favorite rice, plus the basmati rice
/dont know the brand but it comes in a brown burlap sack with a red zipper
basmati is lighter and has a more nutty flavor, more of a middle eastern type rice
we get this fancy japanese rice too sometimes that is really sticky and plump
i guess we will see who the real t.lawrence is, especially if they push him into the starting line up ahead of minshew
like you said, porn stach had a hand owwie last year but he has a few snaps under his belt and could develope into a decent starter
im sorry baba, i got nd state mixed up with boise state for some stupid reason (the team with the blue field)
/not too into college football and went to a state school...derrrrhhhh
//san diego state is doing pretty well in the b'ball from what i hear, but again, i dont follow the round ball action
i think there will be a lot of players in this years qb market so lets keep pour fingers crossed
/just read something about russ might be wanting out of seatle
bears need someone like him but younger; one of those nex gen qbs who is big and can move, plus has a good arm
so i was talking to the mrs last night about arsenic, she is big into "food science" type things
turns out arsenic is a naturally occurring element and all around us; there is organic(plant and animal) and inorganic (from mineral sources)
our drinking water contain certain amounts, plus seafood as well as rice (rice is an accumulator plant)
she mentioned how some people are more sensitive to it because of genetics but its nothing to really worry about
/it reminds me of the old story (fable) of a guy who took a small amount of poison every day to make himself immune to the toxic effects; cant remember the name; might have been the kid with the golden arm
this just reaffirms my belief that most things in life want to kill you !

turns out cal rose is grown here in ca

Where did all the lead arsenate applied in CA orchards go?

brown rice in particular, has more arsenic than other grains? But pop has a point, people in asia eat rice for every meal, shouldn’t there be some wide-spread health issues now if arsenic in rice was a problem?

Do Asians spray fields with arsenicals? Who tests their urine for it or goes all Quincy when someone gets sick or dies and tests tissues for arsenic like they give a shit? Would you believe Asians process and cook the rice in a different way that would drastically reduce the content if it was high?

turns out arsenic is a naturally occurring element and all around us; there is organic(plant and animal) and inorganic (from mineral sources)

Wow what happened to the chemophobia in CA - things used to be way different? I can imagine what you two might say about mercury in fish.

Ive had the Home Run Inn frozen pies, Hawk, and honestly I think it’s my favorite frozen pizza

I tried this tonight. It cost twice as much as Tony's and has twice as much cheese. If HRI spent money on anything here, it would be the cheese. They lie about their pepperoni, which is fashionable these days - presenting potassium nitrite from celery as totally different than potassium nitrite from something else. Organic and wholesome ''uncured'' pepperoni vs. Tony's up-front sodium nitrite. Thin tasteless slices of small pepperoni vs. yummy thick slices of probably the worst parts of several species.

I knew right away something was wrong, 10 minutes into it the kitchen smelled like yeast. Out of the oven, the smell is pure yeast - no pizza smell of any kind, just yeast. And the one slice I ate before dumping the rest in the trash can was 1/3 flour, 1/3 yeast, and 1/3 salt. It is so far above and beyond the worst pizza I've ever had in my life of any kind from any where or any one that it's hard to believe that HRI actually thinks this is edible.

I don’t eat too much jasmine or long grain rice but it is perfect for Spanish or Mexican rice, or yellow rice (middle eastern, Mediterranean) which I should honestly make more of because that stuff has more flavor than regular white rice.
I think they sell rice specifically for sushi which is expensive but Calrose or any decent sticky rice should suffice for sushi, just have to wash it a whole lot, cook it, and then mix it with rice vinegar for that little bit of sweetness.
Minstache is a pretty good QB when healthy but not elite enough to be a difference maker on a bad team; guys like Rodgers and peyton and luck could drag a bad team to the playoffs and Lawrence is supposed to be that guy. We’ll see, minstache is like the gatekeeper: You have to be this good (Minshew level) in order to start.
Boise state is a fun team to watch although that blue field is a bit of an eyesore imo on TV. Their last 2 head coaches left for bigger programs (chris Peterson for U of Washington, bryan harsin for auburn) so it seems like a stepping stone job for coaches now.
SDSU is where kawhi leonard went to school, and I think theyre ranked in the 20’s in mens bball this year. Interestingly enough, Kentucky, north Carolina and duke are unranked right now. I guess more elite high school bball players are choosing to play overseas or in the G-league instead of going to college.
Ive heard those Russell Wilson rumors also but most ‘experts’ agree there’s zero chance he gets traded, even though they win more games when he doesn’t have to hero-ball (throw 40-50x a game) he’s still a top 5 QB in just about every measure, they’ve made the playoffs damn near every year since they drafted him, plus who would start in his place? Their backups are terrible and they’ve had a long line of bad QBs that almost rivals the bears history (rick mirer, anyone?). Matt hasselbeck was pretty good for them tho.
But I think Russell wants more input on personnel matters. He wants a better O-line for one, he was at the superbowl and saw mahomes get chased around all day (he ran 430 yds while scrambling which is the most in the 8 yrs they’ve been tracking that stat) and is being realistic, as he gets older he wont be as mobile or as quick to recover from hits.

I looked around some more and supposedly Bangladesh was having problems with too much arsenic in their well water, I guess the issue with arsenic is it takes decades for it to build up in your body to cause any issues, and before having wells Bangladesh water was often contaminated with sewage, so it’s like die quick by dysentery or die slow by arsenic.

Sorry you had a bad experience with the Home run inn pizza, cant say ive ever smelled it being really yeasty, no more so than any other pizza imo, but I agree, too much yeast flavor/taste isnt palatable. But for me, HRI pizza crust was always more buttery than yeasty.

man, now i will have to keep an eye out for this hri pizza
i dont usually go for frozen pies, but i dont mind them once in a while
/do they have a combination style
most orchards here (in so cal at least) are grown on hill sides, while rice grows in flooded flat lands
turns out there are places here where cyanide/arsenic is a health issue, usually around old mines and places like that
i know what you mean about the chemophobia culture here, but having a decent understanding of chemistry and science helps fight the stupid
mercury in fish is jus like arsenic in rice, predatory fish are accumulator species and the levels go up in the higher food chain
/dont eat a lot of canned tuna or ocean fish
yeah the sdsu round ball program is on the rise and maybe it can become a b'ball factory one of these days
san diego has a decent b'ball culture in the streets and is able to attract talent from all across the country to come out and play
i doubt that the seahawks will be willing to deal russ, but its interesting to hear what the market value for a top-5 qb would be (they are saying three #1)
why not just do a hershell walker deal and trade away all the draft picks at some point?
but it kind of sets president and i think we still might see a couple big names hit the market this off season

Most of the Home run inn pizzas I see in the grocery are cheese or cheese and sausage, but on their website they do seem to have a supreme version but not sure if I’ve ever seen it in stores. Also on their site you can find where they carry their frozen pizzas in cali, seems to be a lot of Von’s and some Albertson’s… Is von’s where you get the cheap fried chicken?
Yeah, California has stricter environmental standards for their consumer products, food etc. I imagine it’s kind of annoying for manufacturers to have a different, stricter standard for Cali as opposed to the other 49 states, but I suppose if it’s for health/environmental reasons maybe everyone benefits?
Ive heard the mercury in fish thing before but I guess it’s not a big deal unless you eat a lot of fish, especially the larger apex species like swordfish, shark, real tuna, etc because like Pop said, all fish contain mercury but when the bigger fish eat the smaller fish it accumulates up the food chain. I know that actor Jeremy piven (from entourage and a bunch of movies) had to quit a broadway play because supposedly he got mercury poisoning from eating too much sushi.

SD is a beautiful city but I figure if you want to play college ball in SoCal youre more likely to go to LA, specifically UCLA. Plus they don’t want to play pickup games vs Storm Shadow and get the busyness, lol. But SDSU has had some stellar athletes in their sports, I know marshall faulk went there for football. But the ultimate smallish school being a bball factory is Gonzaga, in spokane WA, theyre currently #1 in the country and theyre also pretty consistent with players getting drafted, I know in 2019 they had 2 players get drafted in the 1st rd. soccer and baseball are big here in san diego, but we have decent football and b'ball here too
you have to be smart to go to ucle, or a blue chipper; but sdsu does a good job with what they have
/i tihnk its the coaching, used to be steve fisher
a lot of californias environmental laws are obstructionist jokes, same goes for power and gasoline
/if they are so good for the enviroment, why dont we adopt them for all the us?
mercury poisoning is no joke and can cause serious birth defects among other things but it would be hard to get really sick off food
/unless you eat a lot of sushi i guess
from what i read, its mostly industrial pollution that would get you sick, but like the mrs said some people are sensitive to things like this
we have vons here in socal and used to have alberstons but they had to close stores because of some kinf of anti monopoly tihng
vons is ol and i like to score on their $5 friday deals
/the other week it was big deli sandwich, roast chickens and bbq pork ribs
hope things are warming up for you guys and spring is in the air!

Home run inn frozen pizza is good but it does have a crust that's different from other frozen pizzas.we do have the supreme at Walmart here and it's good.red onions, green peppers sausage and pepperoni.gonna buy one soon probably.

And Joe is right.grains are heavily toxic in certain demographics.japan probably doesn't use many pest or herbacides.

According to my dad the bears aren't gonna make any changes or nothing.fuck guess they got nothing to lose
