Nice, sounds like you’ll be feasting on italian hoagies and meatball subs for a week. I could think of far worse things to live on for a week.
Ive never made italian meatballs but ive made burgers out of ground pork and beef before, they were very juicy even when cooked well.

I think lower quality food in general doesn’t reheat well, Pops, ive noticed that with pizza too, dominos reheats terribly and places that make their own dough reheat almost as good as fresh.

I heard garappolo underwent foot surgery soon after signing with the raiders, didn’t know he’d lose money over that but makes sense, his big problem is injuries taking away half his career, im sure the raiders structured his contract over his availability.

Ive heard good things about hungry hobo’s, Hawk, don’t they sell pizza too? Have you been there, is their food decent?
Im a big fan of banana peppers too, I think they have the right amount of spice and heat for sandwich or pizza, just a bit of kick and a lot of flavor. You did go heavy on them though, was it pretty hot?

It’s been a long time since I had a firehouse subs, there’s only one location near me. Their subs are $15 now? How expensive are your groceries that it’s cheaper to buy subs for $15, Pops? U must be shopping at Whole Foods.

I love Rao’s marinara sauce but if you say their roasted garlic version sucks then Ill avoid it, Hawk. The garlic taste was too strong then? Maybe youre half vampire.

sometimes garlic gets to be too much and when its roasted it can get this sweet flavor
its great out of the oven and spread on bread
have you got any pasta hawk
those hogie rolls look just right for making a decent garlic bread or cheesy bread
that would go great with past especially if you already have meatballs
sometimes i will just carb out and eat pasta and garlic bread with butter and cheese
i dont usually buy $15 subs but its a nice treat
thats the thing about making stuff yourself, a bag of good bread can run you lets say three-four dollars easily, add in some lettuce and other fixings and you are easily up to 7-10 for your toppings$
its the meat that gets you
a good deli sliced meat can be over $10/lb
same with the cheese
so lets say you get a hlf pound of a couple different types of meat and a good portion of cheese
thats almost 15-20$ right there
that will get you about four good sandwiches but you add in the time it takes to prep and it starts to go downhill
i could always go the cheaper route and not get the good meat and cheese and bread but life its too short to eat crappy food
yeah it sucks but everything is stupid expensive here in socal and its just getting worse
i need to try out this hungry hobos place, you say they have pizza baba?!?
man i could smash on a half sub and a couple slices
in n out has the banana peppers at the counter if you ask for them
the mrs loves them and will always bring back a little tub of the when she orders our food, plus the extra pickles on the side that i will snack on while eatting my burger
they will also give you a pack of spread that makes your fries almost like animal fries when you pour it over the top
next time im going to ask for grilled onions on the side! this is the hack!!
spread and grilled onions elevates their fries to almost animal status!
and they dont charge extra for these things

Oh yeah, some of the italian restaurants in chicago, the real ones in little italy, will serve roasted garlic to use as a spread for the bread they serve you every meal. Not something you want to eat while on a work lunch though, unless your coworkers don’t mind the garlic smell.

You make a good point about how all the veggies add to the cost, and the labor involved has to be considered as well. Ideally you could use the veggies for other stuff later, salads or in cooked dishes. And yeah, getting good quality italian cured meats is expensive, $10-20/lb, but throwing in some turkey like Hawk has done is a good hack too.

I was thinking of Hungry Howie’s, that’s a pizza chain, Hungry Hobos is a sub chain. Ive never been to either, think you have to get farther from the city to find them. And i think theyre mostly in the midwest too and maybe some in the south, but i dont think ur missing much. Have you been back to that pizza tavern place with the free slices? Im sure that's better than most chain places.

That’s a good deal if I&O doesn’t charge you for extra toppings, surprised they havent stopped that considering inflation and all. Have they raised their prices at all the last couple years? What’s a double double and fries, like $7 now with tax?

in n out has raised their prices in the last few years but its not like other places
7$ for a dbl/dbl and fries sounds about right but its still a great deal
you can also order the extras on the side and get a free salad out of it
i dont milk this one but its there and i might try it next time i go
ive heard of hungry howwies pizza, yuk man
i would rather get dominoes but im not really getting the cheap pizzas anymore
i will spend $20 on a good 14" works pizza from a pizzeria and grind the shit out of that
/if i have the coupon i will get the 16" for a couple bucks more
the cheese and toppings are top notch and worth paying extra for
plus now pizza hut will cost you a bundle for a bunch of grease on a lot of dough, the quality has gone down hill
roasted garlic is another level but like you said its something everyone needs to enjoy
i dont really mind stink foods but everything has its limit

Im a big fan of garlic in general, it’s my main spice other than salt and pepper. But it can be overwhelming yeah. Are you into garlic aioli? The woman was big into that at one point, I think it’s simple enough to make ur own. Just mayo and garlic powder, and maybe minced garlic?

Ive actually heard that hungry howies is decent for the price, like a budget pizza chain, but if u think it’s gross I might have to avoid it if I ever come across one.

I think the big mac meal at mcdonalds is like $9 with a soda, whopper meal at burger king is about the same or more, so a double double w/ fries at I&O is still a good deal, higher quality food for about the same or less price. Everything’s gone up $1 or 2 in the last couple of years, and it went up a $1 or 2 in the few years before that too.

NFL voluntary OTA’s (official team activities) are going on now, like u mentioned before Jimmy G isnt participating cause he’s still recovering from foot surgery. Josh mcdaniels, the raiders head coach, says he’s not concerned about his availability for the regular season. Im thinking though they don’t have a good backup, and if he goes down early they’ll be lucky to win 5 games all year. Should I take the ‘under’ on wins for the season once those betting lines open up? Anyone else u think is going to suck major balls this year?

raiders under 5 wins could happen, im not saying but a lot is riding on jimmy.g
????
/im looking at their schedule and will get back on this one!
i like josh jacobs their rb and the have some good hands@wr but w/o jimmy.g as qb they are kind of thin
im not too sure about the defense and they play in the nfc.w where you have to play two playoff teams twice and we dont know what russ has going on in the kitchen
#f'spanos
do you guys have little ceasers out there? where they have the $5 carry out pizza
i think of hungry howwies like that kind of, maybe im wrong
that sounds like a great sub for mayo baba, you know jitb secret sauce is just like an onion mayo sauce
if you put it in the blender with a scoop of oil/ mayo and pre blend it i bet it woudl come out smooth enough
i imight throw in some smoked paprika or if you really want to go wild a drop of siracha!
/opens a can of chef boy ardee raviolli

dont get me wrong guys.i love garlic but this sauce is gross.and i love sauce so much i can eat it out of the jar.in fact i do that to get the proper flavor profile to see if i need to add anything..i just really did not like this sauce.im actually thinking of getting the regular marinara and mixing it cause i dont know if i can eat it like this.gonna have to doctor it up somehow.hungry hobos is legit.they even have homemade soups and some other stuff i cant remember but no pizza.pizza is not good in Davenport.it aint chicago thats for sure.guess im spoiled.

but no baba banana peppers arent hot to me.it was pretty zesty though.back in my younger years used to look for the hottest peppers.i wont touch those carolina reapers though.probably wreck my gut up for good..

that italian style sub i made wasnt cheap.it was all good deli meat.plus the provolone.ahh shit boys.ill get back to that.just found out my 4 wheeler just got stolen.gotta go

U make a good point that with the chiefs and chargers in the division, raiders are looking at 4 losses right there. Although divisional games tend to be tougher matchups even when the teams aren’t equal.
Josh jacobs is a stud but he seems like he’s going to hold out until he gets a long term deal, he hasn’t signed his franchise tag yet (1 yr, 10M). Mccaffrey and zeke (before he was cut) and kamara were the highest paid RBs at 15-16M/yr, maybe jacobs would be happy with anything over 12/yr? That’s dalvin cook, derrick henry and nick chubb money.

We have little caesar’s, quite a few here since they started in michigan. Theyre alright I guess, the $5 ready to go pizzas arent much better than frozen pizza imo, especially once they get cold, but theyre edible.

I didn’t realize JitB had their own secret sauce, I guess all these places have to have their signature sauce: I&O’s ‘spread’, raising cane’s dipping sauce, shake shack’s burger sauce, etc. Theyre all versions of a ‘mayochup’, a mayo and ketchup base, and then they add their own touches: mustard, diced pickles, Worcestershire, onions bell peppers, S&P, garlic powder, paprika etc etc. I guess with a mayochup base you could make a 100 different versions of sauce with just a few more ingredients.
You guys ever make ur own mayochup secret sauce or u like to keep it simple, just ketchup or bbq sauce or mayo by itself? I think the only time I mix up a sauce is mayo and diced pickles and lemon juice and S&P for a quick tartar sauce if im eating fish fillets or something.

So is it just too strong of a garlic flavor, Hawk, or did the jar go bad or something? I might have to try a jar of it sometime just to see what made u dislike it so much. Rao actually has a vodka version of their marinara, maybe u should throw some vodka in the garlic sauce and see if that cuts the taste a bit. Yknow, a splash in the pot, a bigger splash in ur mouth, hehe.

Im with u Hawk, habanero (100-300k scoville) is probably the hottest pepper I like, anything approaching a million or more scoville units is just pure heat no flavor to me. Ghost peppers, Trinidad scorpions and Carolina reapers, if I actually cooked with them it would be like one small pepper in a huge pot of soup or chili or something. Maybe even just one small piece of pepper if it’s a reaper.

I thought the 4 wheeler wasn’t running?

f'n hell hawk, i hope you find your 4whlr
one thing i cant stand are thieves
its only going to get worse as people get more desperate and the law continues to do nothing to discourage their behavior
/but im the bad guy for beating the shit out of someone i find stealing from me?
im still thinking about the raiders and i would almost say take the under, if they can keep jimmy.g upright for the season they might get to 6-7 wins but when is the last time he played a full season?
the play the bills and chargers early in the season plus the steelers and packers, then they get a small window of opportunity with bears lions giants
/maybe the can get hot and go 2-1 here, but i can also see 1-2 more likely
heck yeah i used to make my own sauces! like you said mayo as a base and then you start adding stuff to dress it up
one of my favorites is lava sauce which is popular in sushi places 9its that spicy orange sauce) just sriracha and mato
i also do a tarter sauce just like you said baba but i ahve this powder tater stuff you add and it takes it to the next level
/i have no idea whats in it but it brings the flavor
when i ws young little caesers had the pizz pizza! where you got two pizzas
me and my sister would get that with our pocket money and the one paying dident have to go and get it usually
now like you said its like frozen pizza from the store but you dont have to cook it yourself and can just drop in and grab one
still, kind of yuk
the 800/lb gorilla in the room is costco pizza! they used to have a mean combination pizza but now only sell cheese or pepperoni
both are still good but i kind of lean towards the cheese pizza

it was my dads landlord.i had my 4 wheeler there and my uncle had his buel there.the cocksucker took both.im gonna ask the guy nicely to give it back.if he dont well, looks like im coming out of retirement.ill buy a bottle of jack and kill all his animals.and then ill come for him and his family.after my pit bike and mower got stolen a few years ago i lost it.im not playing around anymore.i can be the nicest guy or your worst nightmare.they get to choose and make their decisions.the cops wont do anything so looks like i got to do it.

anyway ill take a pic of the jar when i go get another beer.its bad and id like your opinion baba.its not cheap either.theres another sauce thats supposed to be a little better but i cant remember the name.think it started with a v.i think the answer with the sauce i got is lemon juice.maybe a pich of sugar too.im just gonna make my own sauce from now on i think.its easy.just gotta find san marzano tomatoes.
i dont dabble with sauces like i should.a good chimichurri is good and easy.i tried some ghost pepper salsa before.it was hot but the vinegar tamed it down a little.i cant do hot things anymore.my stomach is fucked.i dont know where i heard it but i heard a stupid rumor that Brady might come back and play for the raiders.i dont believe it but stranger things have happened.seems like hes playing that brett farve game anyway.fuck i hate that guy.

Jimmy last played almost a full season 2 yrs ago, the year the rams won the championship. He missed game 5 with a calf injury then skipped game 17 because their playoff seed was locked in. Last year trey lance started but got hurt game 2 and jimmy started from then until game 12 when he fractured his foot, which is the same injury he’s recovering from still. I guess he thought it would heal without surgery but after 4 months (Dec 4 was the injury) he finally got the surgery in March, conveniently after he signed his raiders contract but in return the raiders added some protections (moved his signing bonus to his base salary so if he doesn’t play this season he can be cut without the team paying him anything).
Brian hoyer is their backup, if that guy has to start any games the raiders are going to struggle to score any points.

Spicy mayo on volcano rolls and sushi in general is a great condiment, and ur right it’s so simple, just mayo and sriracha. Do you use it on anything else? I imagine it wouldn’t be that bad on a burger.
I think the cream of tartar adds body and acidity to tartar sauce, I might have to pick some up one day, I think it’s got other recipe uses too. Plus u can clean with it, like vinegar?

I remember the pizza!pizza! days, little caesar’s was actually good then, and remember the bubbles that would rise from the dough? Those were always fun to eat.

That’s strange that ur dad’s landlord would take his vehicles, were they illegally parked or something? Or ur dad owes back rent? Seems like u could make a police report if he was in the wrong. Vigilante justice could end up backfiring on you, it would be best to get the vehicles back without having to resort to violence.

A little acidity and sugar could help mask the garlic taste, maybe a splash of vodka if u have it. Also you could just return the jar, most big grocery stores will take returned food no problem if u say there’s something wrong with it (maybe the jar was exposed to too much heat/light and the contents spoiled a bit).

Ive made my own pasta/marinara sauce from canned tomatoes, it works alright but Rao’s is easier plus I don’t use tomato sauce all that much. If I ate pasta constantly I’d probably make my own all the time and be an expert.

The t-bone is looking very nice, Hawk, was it prime from walmart? Got some decent marbling on there. And that dry brine works real well yeah? You dry brine it for 12-24 hrs?

pop_rocks

yeah man, that steak dosent look half bad
good marbling and a nice color, did you add some coarse salt to it already?
thats something that would be great on a grill
ive had that sauce before, but not the garlic one
ive made my own gravy before but like you said baba its so much easier to get a good jar of sauce and dress it up if you like
i would rather make fresh noodles that gravy but i could do both
while the sauce is simmering i can prep my dough and then once the gravy is done just cook the noodles, fresh pasta only takes like a few min to cook
i dont really eat the spicy mayo anymore, it upsets my stomach too much sometimes and is not worth the chance
so how many games do you think the faders can get out of jimmy.g?
even if they get 10-12 games out of him the are still losing against the big boys
look at the top guys like j.allen or mahommie; thse guys are playing almost every snap
you asked who i see suxing this season:: it could be the rams!
im still working this one out but will get back to you soon
so i think i f'd up my big toe the other day on the trail
i kind of stumbled or kicked something hard because now my big toe ie purple and it feels like i have a marble under my foot
its not as bad as it was the first day and im not going to get it looked at but it still sux
we are waking on the beach tomorrow
the soft sand is going to work out my foot but if i walk at the tide line the cold water will help sooth the inflamation
getting oldsux

Hawk salts it fairly heavily and then refrigerates it overnight, that’s the dry brine. Helps season the meat and lock in moisture during cooking or something like that. Real easy way to ‘brine’ meat, instead of mixing up a solution of water/salt/seasonings.

I don’t think ive ever made fresh pasta noodles, but it’s real easy yeah? Like flour and eggs and combine them and roll them out and then slice it in strips?

He’ll be 6 months past surgery when training camps open so he should start week 1, but like u said he’s injury prone, and the raiders o-line isnt as good as the niners so I’d say below 50% chance he finishes out the season. If he manages to get in double digit games they could win some but u mentioned their tough schedule so… id be comfortable taking the under on 6 wins right now.

Sorry to hear ur big toe is all messed up, you don’t think it could be arthritis or something? If it’s really hurt you would think you would remember hurting it on something but if it’s just normal wear and tear maybe theres some underlying inflammation causing the swelling/pain.

thats the weird thing, i dont remember hurting it and it dident really hurt after our hike
i dont think its arthritis but i might get that in my hands in a decade or two
i salt my meat too before grilling and it does add to the crust
fresh pasta is super easy to make
you just put some flour and water in a mound and mix it together until its combined and then kneed it for about 15-20 min
there is a feel to your dough and once you get that you wrap it in plastic and let it rest for another while
i have a pasta roller (just some cheap hand cranked thing i got off amazon) that i use but yeah you could roll it out with a pin or a bottle or even a can and cut it into strips yourself
i want to get one of those extruders that make shapes so i could put the dough in and make hollow noodles or even spirals
some people like to dry their noodles after the make them for a few minutes, i skip this step unless im going to save some for later
yeah, the raiders have so many ??? that i would take the under right now but its still too early to say how the season is going to shape up
i almost would feel better betting rams under 6 at this point

my dads having a pissing match with the landlord.weve known the guy over 30 years.made a police report but cops wont do anything.looks like im gonna have to take another loss.
yeah the tbone is from walmart.dont think its prime.its been dry brining close to 24 hours.im gonna make it soon.never made noodles.i hate fucking with dough.i need a dough mixer.
that sucks pops.you sure you should be doing a lot of walking?

Yeah that’s a bit strange that u don’t know exactly how you hurt it, sounds like a repetitive stress injury, maybe something to do with circulation? I guess feet are prone to blood circulation problems since theyre so far from the body. The sand and water should help it, let us know if it goes away.

Ah but do you salt ur meat 24hrs or more before grilling? That’s the key to a dry brine, letting the salt work its magic over a day or two.

Flour and water I can do, but what about yeast? Or with pasta you don’t let the dough rise? Im going to make some british style ham rolls this week, may have to mix up some proper bread dough, let it rise, knead it, repeat etc. I’ll post pics.
That would be cool if you got a pasta extruder so you can make fancy shapes, are they expensive? I think cuisanart and kitchenmaid sells attachments for that.

Rams under for season wins sounds decent, if the O/U is at least 7. Stafford should be healthy to start the year but like jimmy g he’s been prone to injury lately. Kupp is studly but even he cant win games with backup level QBs. One possible bright spot if stafford does go down is they have stetson bennett, the championship winning QB from georgia, as their rookie backup. Maybe he could pull a brock purdy and still move the offense effectively if he has to play

Well that sucks Hawk but sounds like if ur dad and landlord can work out their differences maybe you can get ur vehicles back. Eventually.

Id like to see Hawk with a stand mixer, you would be making some hellacious fresh baked bread and stuff. That would pair nicely with all the meats you’ve been making.

Yeah I salted it.i pan seared it.the bone gets in the way for an even seer.its time to get a grill.man if I had a mixer I'd be making pizza every week.dough and I don't get along.i end up making a mess.
I'm pretty sure I'll never see that 4 wheeler again.my dad's getting kicked out in July and he's going to prison around that time.he might only do a year but that still sucks.he did it to himself by driving.dui

sorry guys, that is not how you make noodles
instead of water i meant eggs, about one large egg for every cup of flour
you kind of mix it all together and i will wet my hands, this helps the dough not stick plus if your noodles are too dry it moistens them up
other that that its up to you, of course ass salt and sometimes we will add like herbs
you should be makeing noodles hawk! with your forearms it would be a cinch!
its a thing where you use your shoulders and push into the dough but you get it all mixed up
i was thinking the same thing, how it could be a repetative stress thing
my buddy said it could be gout! but i doubt that
/wtf is gout and how does it feel
last time we went walking on the beach we saw some cool shit so i will let you guys know how it goes
a cheap kettle grill will get the job done hawk and as lonf as you are only cooking for a couple people is plenty big
i ditched my big webber a while back for one of those mini kettles and it rocks
it uses less charcoal and cooks just as good
i can still make at least four burgers on it at a time or a whole pack of hot dogs and if you cut them up right you can even get ribs in there
im tihnking rams o/u will be about 6; 7 might be tempting
they are not a .500 team right now and are only lucky the have a somewhat soft schedule this season
im still going over things but thats where im at right now
/i dont expect us winning half our games
thats a good point about money$tafford, if he goes down it totally changes the team
/luckily he hasnt had a history of big owwies but you never know
i tihnk the o'line is ??? and how far can a.don carry the d all by himself?
