The chargers have a franchise qb in Rivers, and a JJ watt clone in bosa. Keenan Allen, melvin gordon, casey hayward and melvin ingram.. theyve got playmakers on both sides of the ball. You have to think that theyll have better injury luck this year, just because theyve had so many the last couple years. Just like it's hard to be a really healthy team several years in a row, it's also unlikely to have a really injured team several years in a row. I just want to see their games when they're playing in their 30,000 seat home stadium. I think some basketball arenas are bigger than that... Oakland spent 100M renovating the stadium when the raiders returned from LA. Are they still paying that off? Geez. No wonder they didn't want to pony up hundreds of millions more to build a new stadium; oakland taxpayers would be paying for that till the 23rd century... Still, the former O.co stadium (remember that? they no longer have naming rights) is kind of a dump. It has sewage backup issues that crop up every so often, and the raiders were the last team to share a stadium with a baseball team. Always looks weird to see a baseball diamond in the middle of a football field. I think al davis wanted his own stadium for a long time, and mark finally made it happen. It's funny that we had 3 teams moves in the last year or so when we hadnt seen a move for 20 years (houston moving to memphis). Reminds me of a few years back, when a bunch of college teams switched conferences. It was mostly about the $$ then too...

that is one mighty big if, baba'
i think .500 is best case for the coc's (chargers of carson)
they have a weak secondary and lack leadership
i think its ogign to take a few years for lynn to make the chargers his team
plus i wonder how many more seasons rivers has left in the tank

so looks like romo is ready to hang em' up
i think this is a smart move and hope he does well in the booth if that is where he ends up

The chargers of carson city, I like that. You know the team better than i do. I just figured with an upper tier QB like Rivers, an nfl team just has to be somewhat average in all other areas to have a .500 or better season. But youre right, with 22 starters plus special teams, it takes more than a few good or even great players to have a decent team. I guess san diego fans are kind of torn between wanting the chargers to do well or do poorly now that they've moved, huh? That sound you hear is bob mcnair, the texans owner, tearing out his remaining hair when he heard romo signed with cbs to be their main football announcer. How much is cbs paying him? If it's even half of what he could make playing football, probably a smart career move for him. He knows his body, plus he's got a family now, can't say I blame him. You're seeing more and more nfl players leave the game in their prime. I still think, if healthy, he would have made the texans a title contender. Being healthy is a big "IF" for romo though, seemed like every time he got hit hard he'd get injured, and that was behind the best O-line in the game.

i think the nfl has gotten so competitive that it takes more than just a few talented players on either side of the ball to win
/in addition to a great roster, you need someone to have a stand out season and then a whole lot of luck to make it big in the league now
phillip rivers is very good, but he is not at GOAT level
i mean, consider how long it took for peyton to get his ring and he was one the of the greatest to ever play
/heck, look at andrew luck so far

you are right that a solid starting qb is a step in the right direction, but look at how many seasons the chargers had where they were that .500 team
not really moving up or down in the standings, just sort of hanging in there
this also meant middle of the round draft picks so it was hard to build up for the next season
for a while they benefited from playing in a weak division but the afc west is back and looks to be more competitive than ever
/also consider that the lost two starters on their o'line this off season, an area they were already having problems

which superbowl was bogus, shithawk?
the last one between atl and ne?

i bet more than one team had set their sites on romo
he would definitely make an impact on any roster as well as being a big draw for fans
/but every snap would also have been a gamble and he was one hit away from being hurt really bad

speaking of the bears, have they shown any interest in kaep?
there are still a couple free agent quarterbacks who could start and do well
it looks like this years draft dosent have any solid qbs coming out so where will they turn?

right on hawk'

while i still love the sport, i have no team
it feels different going into a season not really rooting for anyone

last teim i felt like this i actually got into 7's rugby
way faster than football with lots of action

still excited for the upcoming draft, tho

Bears are rolling with tampa bay castoff Mike Glennon. I'm lukewarm on this signing, maybe he'll be better than ok. I have nothing against Kaepernick but i would not have liked it if the bears signed him, he seems too limited as a passer (although he generally keeps turnovers low). Maybe he can still have success in this league in the right situation, who knows. Im hoping the bears pick up deshaun watson in the draft.

Rivers is good enough to win a few games by himself every year, although last year i think he had a bad run of interceptions late in the season that ensured they would not make the playoffs. He's more towards the end of his career than the beginning but he's capable of putting up top #'s; matt ryan had a break out year after almost 10 years in the league, dont see why rivers cant get back into elite form. It's unlikely, but if they get it going on defense, special teams, healthy on offense, they could be a 10-12 win team. Which, you know, could actually get people in la excited about the nfl, playing some meaningful games late in the season.

i saw the bears picked up glennon and paid a lot for his services
im not sure how much of the money is guaranteed but nfl level qbs are worth their weight in hash right now

i agree with you on kaep, he might still have somethign left in him, but its up to him to prove his worth in the nfl
is he serious about regaining his position as a top nfl qb
i think his real talent is in his legs and the ability to move

its seems like rivers int #s go up when he tries to put the team on his back
last year was really bad (not checking the stats but it felt like one of the worst years as far as td/int goes)
if he has a nice pocket to pass from he does well
/another erason why i dont understand letting dj fluker and big king dunlap go
im still looking for gordons breakout year
that will only help the cocs offence and take presure off rivers

their d can be one of the best in the league up front, but can be burned badly in the secondary
as far as fantasy goes (your still doing that booey'?), rivers will put up nice numbers but i dont see him as a top 5 pick
the chargers will need a lot of help making the playoffs
/ expect the afc west to be one of the toughest divisions again this year

its weird because i thought san diego fans were fair weather, now they are playing in LA?!?
the thing you ahve to remember is that half the population are transplants and still follow their home teams (pit and dal are big in this area, plus the raiders)
the otehr half are total band wagoners
they will def be playing "uphill" all the way

If glennon totally wets the bed, then his deal is for 1 year and 19M (or so); if he's good enough to start for a couple years, it becomes 2 years for 30M or so. So not a big overpay if he's an average starter. Mostly, i think bears fans are relieved to see anyone other than cutler as the starter.

Kaepernick could be effective again on a team with a good running game, good off line, good receivers... wait, pretty much any nfl caliber qb would be good with all those things. I think even 49er fans want to move on from kaepernick.

rivers usually went in the second half of qb's drafted (4th rd pick or lower) in my leagues. he was usually a good value pick at that level; he's usually top 5 in pass attempts every year, so the opportunity for stats is there. When his receiving corp isnt torn apart by injuries, he can have some big games.
Carson city has a top ten draft pick this year, if the chargers can hit on some kids who can play i can easily see them being a playoff team this season; raiders and denver look strong as well though, wont be easy playing 4 games against them...

lets not forget about kc
i like andy reid as a coach and believe in alex smith
we will see how they do without jamal charles, but i tihnk the afc west is stacked this year
(i see the standings as raiders, denver,kc then the cocs)

im surprised that kaep is not getting more attention, esp considering how many teams still need a decent starting qb
also where will osswieler end up
i know the browns traded for him but it sounds like they plan on cutting him before opening day

that sounds like solid thinking taking rivers with a 4rth round pick
he still can put up the numbers but i dont see him as a top producer
who do you tihnk would be your first pick
matty ice has to be up there as well as brady, who would be the first running back off the board this year?

maybe i will get in on the fantasy football since i dont really have a team going into the season
/it was always funny when i hear my friends cheer on random teams because of their fantasy roster

oh got some catching up to do but I need not bother if I don't want to, Patriots are going to win the next 5 haters ball your eyes out like the epic crybaby posters I see in some sports stadiums... OK I be easy on you, we win 7 we are ok for a while, not saying we win more but do not underestimate the greatness and power of this crazy multiheaded beast, no telling what can't be done we have been pulling down the pants of doubters for some time now! :D
as long as coach and QB continue together, I feel we got multple to win, and maybe even more after that got to believe they will set up their successors nicely. so make up stories and we will keep on winning. Go Patriots!

Really? This is why I love football; fans giving other fans crap is part of being a fan. As a bears fan, if you can deal with the crap packers fans have laid on us over the past 2 decades, you can deal with a little patriots trash talking. The patriots are going to be a contender next year, probably the #1 contender, but it's hard to win a superbowl, and there are other talented teams in the league (there are 3 in the afc west along that could beat the patriots in a playoff game - thanks pop, forgot about KC). So maybe the patriots win 1 or 2 more superbowls, maybe they dont. Im thinking it's at least a 50% chance they dont win anymore... Is kaepernick still bad juju? He's not going to be kneeling during the anthem anymore... He's a special case; he's been good enough in the past where you can see him playing well again, but he's also been bad enough in the past where you can see him never being consistently good again. I mean, cutler hasnt signed with another team, and that's probably for purely football reasons as well. Plus, who knows the specifics of what he's asking for? Maybe teams are only offering backup $ to kaep, and he wants starter pay, like glennon. That could be why he's not signed yet, not for reasons related to his protest. I think Rivers sometimes went like 8th round in some past drafts ive had; then he'd be top 5 in passing yds, top 10 in td's for the season. That was a good value pick if you loaded up on rb's and wr's, and then to get a qb like rivers in the 2nd half of the draft? Now that you're teamless, i advise getting into fantasy football, because FF does divide your loyalties. I know some years i had aaron rodgers on my team...

I've got a Patriots fan in my family.

It's much easier to handle the trash talk if you can physically slap the trash talker.

Lol.

I'm nervous for my Broncos this(next) year. I think the Raiders (ick) are going to be really good.

Y'all getting pumped for the draft?

Broncos missed out on Romo. Even if romo didn't retire, he would have preferred the texans over the broncos.
Maybe Paxton Lynch is going to get some starts this year, prove he was worthy of being traded up for?

I'm not too pumped up for the draft, dont know if there are any guaranteed stars in this draft. Maybe fournette but bears dont need a RB. the qb's are all risky to varying degrees, the bears have missed more often than not in their drafts, dont want to see them waste a top pick on a QB who never develops. But we need a QB, so we need to take that risk...

it looks like this years draft is stacked with defensive players

glennon is a good place holder and hopefully he can have a career year for the bears
but going foreward i dont see him as the star the team needs
im sure there will be some good young arms in the later rounds
