Next Generation Romulan vs. Federation Romulan

I have some fed rom at the moment and wanted to get peoples opinions on which is better since I have never grown anything from next generation.

Are they even close to the same strain? at least lineage wise or is the only thing they have in common is the name itself?

My buddy was growing what he said was a romulan cut but it looked NOTHING like mine so I have to assume they are completely different plants all together unless he actually wasn't growing true romulan as he thought he was.

I know my federation romulan is what it is because I got it from the source, my boy however got a cut, some seeds or something for his. I am curious now because I am thinking maybe he just had the next gen version.

anyone grow both, which is better, any phenos I should keep an eye out for?

also has anyone done a next gen rom x fed rom cross before?

If I remember my nerd/bean trivia - Next Gen and Federation were at one time same company.

Their roms should be same - the 2 whiz's had falling out and split.

Fed was 1st, then Next Gen.

Bean making nerds - what a classic combo...

SO maybe next gen had the f1's or f2's and fed had the p1's......

has anyone grown both? do you smoke the same at all.

Just trying to see what might be worth investing in for my romulan project. I already have federation romulan and always assumed them to be the original/real deal.

When a seed company splits the most common is to spit all assets unless there was a criminal or ?
reason not to.That's what I would have done anyway.

Same clone (Romulan indica cut) used as the base. White Widow male was used in the initial Federation cross then backcrossed to the Rom cut. When Jay split and started Next Gen he started a new line using Blueberry male then backcrossed to the Rom cut.

Sounds reasonable - thanks...

Hmm. this Romulan is new to me. I have seen pitures, but never had the pleasure if you know what I mean. Anybody have some pics of each to compare??

Federation Romulan is my all time fav medicinal strain. Here's what the Big Book of Buds 1 has to say about Romulan: California Strain X White Rhino (back crossed 11 times)

"Federation purchased Romulan as a complete strain in 1996 in an attempt to rescue it from extinction. In the 1970's, this variety was brought from California to British Columbia by a Viet Nam veteran, where it was grown on Vancouver island. This variety was nicknamed Romulan after people joked that the high could "dent your head", producing ridges like those of star trek's warrior-like race with the same name.

Federation acquired Romulan in the form of clones, so she was entirely female. After crossing it with a CC prizewinner, a White Rhino male, breeders at Federation back crossed 11 times to stabilize the variety at a 97% pure Romulan hybrid."

Anyone who has never tried either growing or sampling this strain should it's a winner in both areas. Of all the strains I use for my MS this is the one i keep going back to. Smell and flavor is great. Just having it out in the open can engulf your house in a dank pungent smell, it only gets worse when smoked. odor protection is a MUST. Hope the info helps. peace

Dont know much about mathmatics...can you explain the 11 bx thing and the 97% pure Romulan?? :chin:

Well they don't explain it, but I'm assuming they kept crossing it to itself while trying to keep the best Romulan attributes(after crossing it with the rhino)? Like i said they don't explain it in the book. That's all it says word for word. i'm no breeder, sorry

Frostynugz,
BBoB??
...it ain´t the gospel :noway: :D
No it isn't the gospel by any means, nor did I claim it to be. No offense but I'll take Rosenthal's word as to what the lineage is as this is information gathered from the breeders themselves. Thanks

I will defer to the bbob on this one as i couldn't remember if it was rhino or widow for certain and I think the actual breeder paid to do the write up for the book. Not sure if it is still there but the green life website used to have the background of romulan detailed by Jay from Next Gen. Not sure if the genetics came up from cali but it was developed outside on Vancouver Island in someones backyard for years from a mongrel mix of sativa and indica landraces, jay thinks it is mostly a columbian just selected for a long time for squatness. I believe the real (local) island name for the two rom clones is port alberni pine bud but no one calls it that commercially becuz port alberni is a real small place!

I agree that it goes by a different name in BC. I have alot of family out there and i remember trying it, not sure what they called it off the top of my head. As far as Jay and Next Gen goes, I thought you said when Jay split and started Next Gen he started a new line using Blueberry male then backcrossed to the Rom cut? So wouldn't that make it entirely different than the original? Like a Romulan 2.0 if you will lol Either way it's definetly one of my all time favorite strains. Great for insomnia and pain relief.

I grew fed romulan last year was nice ..but not what id of expected from romulan..it wasnt knock out it was a fruity sweet smell with very sativa leaves yield was low potency slightly above average..it was ok stuff but i bought romulan to knock me out not for a chilled skunk vibe..so i didnt keep it

Really? The pheno I grew had nice fat indica leaves, deep green. Didn't smell fruity by any means either, pungent and stinky. Maybe they changed the seedstock over the years? I've heard that Fed did this with the Mikado(Don't remember what thread but it's on here. Seeds are a lot smaller then they used to be. Or vise versa, i was stoned. lol). I'll have to give it another go and see what results I get next time around. Medmaker420, I'd like to try the Next Gen Romulan with the blueberry influence to see how it is. Have you ever tried it?:joint:
