newbie question

hey guys was wonderin..... whhat height i should have my 400 watt hps with normal standard hood above my plants.. tent size is 80 by 80 by 160

about 10 inches give or take a few... you can put a 400 real close as long as heat isn't and issue...but remember the closer you put the light the less overall light profile...so if ya put it real close the plants on the edge get less light IMHO... some people check the heat level by putting hand under light at level ya want and testing...you can gradually lower it if no issues arrive...thermometers work too

Im hittin near 30c 80f.. cant seem to get the heat down

The old back of the hand test....put the back of your hand under the light and the plants should get no closer than you can comfortably put your hand..hope this helps..dj

hiya,,you also might want to consider a "spreader",,,,fits just under your bulb,,,helps with hotspots,,spreads the power about,,enabling you to keep your lamp a bit closer,,,s2
