i posted this b4 but got no hits:-( sory if queston was too sttupid, but ill post again, thnx

Hello all . A couple days ago I germed my first 4 youngins. Three seem to be doing just fine, while one lags behind. So far, they have been under a compact 70 w for roughly 36 hours on a 24/7 cycle. temp is probably around 73-78 during day. humidity 50. i gave the sickly one a little tiny bit of "left out" water after it didnt shape up within 18 hours of transplant. this one kind of received a little bit of shock too (more so than the others) during the transplant. at first the stem at the base perkt up erect, but the top continues to shrivel. i was wondering if anyone had any advce to help a newbie in need. oh, also , i was wondering if anyone could tell me how often seedlings need to be watered, and when it is it a good time to transplant into a bigger container? below are some pics to help. appreciate the feedback :D

as far as tranplanting, you still have a couple weeks to go before it shoud even be considered

Looks like your boliling the tops. They're giving out on you. Water them puppys when needed. The soil should be damp and not soak all the time. You can tell by the dry weight (dry soil) of the pot/cups and the wet (after you water). When it gets too light give it a light feeding. This can be a pain in the ass for first timers. Its all about patience, and consistency. Oh also get a lil fan in there to blow across them lil guys. It will strengthen your stems and keep the heads from frying.

I had watering issues...

for the first 2-3 weeks of my first grow. I was overwatering badly. I did what Blatant makes reference to, looking at the wet and dry weights of the soil. This lets you fine tune (more like save the plants in my case, hehe) your watering and only water when they need it. I use a cooking scale. It weighs acurrate to the ounce or so. Seemed to work for me. Im 2 months in and I don't need to use the scale anymore :D Kinda like training wheels if you think about it. I use a bathroom scale to weigh the bit pots I transplanted the girls into. I think I could do without it, but better safe then sorry IMO. First time growing in a pot this big, so its training wheels for me :D

Best of luck to ya on those. Just listen to people like beans and blatant and youll be OK;)

I hope those aren't seeds you found in a bag of shwagy-shwag! If so, use better genetics...they're definately worth the extra loot! If your seeds are good genetics then yeah ^^^^^^^everyone above knows what they're doing so listen and learn! Peace

thanks for all the replies. i already have a two fans blowing in the closet. i dont belive it could be burnt beause the fan blows directly on the compact (due to light overheating issues), and is cool to the touch. as far as watering, i was really unclear about a direct answer, sorry :( if this helps: they were in grow cubes b4 i put them in cups. the gcubes retain the proper amount of moisture by themselves. as far as that, they have not been watered for roughly 48 hours (except the shirivled one). when should they show signs that they want water??? the tops are currently pretty dry, does this mean its time? also, do u guys think i should just toss the poor little shrivled one? oh, btw, they are from bag (limited resources at the moment unfortunately :() u guys think it might just be genetic problems???? (oh, and "left out water" is what i mean by left out water for 24 hours so the chlorine evaps) apreciate the feedback, your knowledge is seepin in fast.

Bagseed sucks HUGE.....PM me a safe addy and I'll do u a huge fav....I got some freebie's from Gypsy that you can have! They will most certainly perform better....no doubt about it! Genetics have quite a bit to do with a plants performance and overall appeal. Good Genetics = Good Bud! Peace

**I need to rephrase that ^^^^^to clearify some exceptions***

Important: The only bagseed that should be used is out of buds grown by somebody that grew their own seeds....but the chances of coming across those viable, high quality seeds in buds is slim to none. Unless you're friends wit someone like Rez, BOG, Soma! Peace

definately get some goods seeds, nirvana range, brilliant for beginners, (im still one) good price so not to devastating if u kill em, order from seeds direct, u wont get ripped off, and u will be happy with what u get.

Looks like your light to far away and or not enough light. water seedling from the bottom or use a turkey baster so not to damage young roots.

Man, you need to go to OG and read the beginner's growfaqs.
Your plants are stretching for light. You have them to far from the lights. You only need regular floros for seedlings. Plain old 80 watt shop light 3 or 4 inches from top of plants. You MUST have holes for drainage.

ok, thanks 2fat. i got the kids about 4 inches away from the bulb. how should i make holes in the existing cupss so as to not damage or shock the roots? oh, and also, do u know if its alright to just throw these guys under an 400hps, or should i just wait to transplant? thanks for the help

I wouldnt' worry about punching holes into roots, just do it ASAP, because eventually there will be a bunch of rootmass down there and then youll be screwed.

I would keep them under that fluoro for now, wait till theyre a little bigger before throwing them under the 400wer.

nails work good...

nails work good...

I use the largest drill bit I can find in the quickest amount of time :D

Do you know those drill saw bits? If you know what Im talking about, I use a drillbit about that size. Works like a charm.

IMO< If i were you i would ditch those sad looking seedlings and take up truekemists offer or go buy some better seeds and read more than youve ever read in your life.

They look like deformed seeds, thats why people are saying its better to have more reliable source than bag shwag.

Good luck,
Leeroy
