I understand now, sorry it was so painful XD

Not at all. Before I got here, I measured colas against my thumb. Now I measure against my forearm with hand and fingers extended. The difference was what I found here. I just got here before you did. I cheat, I got links, subscribed threads...

Don't get too trigger happy with purchases, it happened to me my first grow and before I ever had a plant to put them under I had:
- 400w MH
- 600w HPS
- Carcass of a 1000W HPS ballast
- 16 Bulb T12 with growtubes

My advice is to wait until the plant is telling you "GIVE ME MORE SUNNY-D DADDY" then you can pile on more CFL's at that time, it'll help keep expenses low.

Stay safe by staying quiet!

Look at blynx grows over in micro section. He has cfl growing perfected. Consider a beer can reflector for the small bulbs or some other reflection. It will make a big difference if done right and causes a bit more heat to trap just below the lights.

y splitter with large clamp reflector is how I use them. In the y set up the two bulbs combine their light and you get twice the penetration. The clamp reflector doubles the lumens according to my light meter. You will have about 4 or 5 inches of flowering light coming off the 26 watt or similar lights..

If you have reflection you can get a lot more light going to plant by having the lights sideways to them. The y splitter does that somewhat too.

Re: Newbie Grower - CFL questions

Thank you again for all the great help and advice guys :) I'm taking it all in, promise! I think I'll create a new account so I can start a journal and share pictures, get advice as time goes on, you know!

Do you guys take extra precautions when posting pictures? Like, obviously don't link from a photobucket album, remove any EXIF data from photos... is there any benefit to posting from a proxy or something? Just hesitant where this forum is public and all.

Try looking it up on "Search bar", I'm sure some paranoid grower probably made a tutorial on the best ways to post pics safely.

Multi accounts are severely frowned upon. Your name is fine. Just start an album here at IC to store photos.

EXIF data is generally not a problem unless you fully program the camera and register it. All my EXIF data would tell you is my camera model, one of millions around the globe. While I can't speak of all image editing software, Image Ready strips EXIF data when you "save for web". Saving for web reduces my pics file size from around(ish) 700kb to 70kb. This increases my storage capacity and keeps the site zippy. Remember, a modern digital camera takes a picture the size of your bed. We need something half the size of a post card.

Then I suggest you kill this account. Multi accounts are severely frowned upon.

Could you tell me how to do that? I gladly will if it's an issue, I just have no clue how XD
