flours still under mh/hps best on market 91lumens per watt , hps 130-150 lumens per watt , they not there yet

Whenever a company says something "replaces" something else, remember you can replace anything with anything,it doesnt mean much and flo's may replace HIDs but they wont ever be as effective as a HID,all that aside I bet those 6 lamp fixtures would be great for veg,I wouldnt ry flowering with any floro's though

Those lights are nice but a rip. If you want to use fluros goto Wal Mart and buy some shoplights or cfls. The price will be way cheaper and they will perform very similar to those fluros. Those are only T5 bulb, nothing new, and nothing that will outperform or even match hid.

Hello,

full-spectrum lights have been available since more than 100 years. Every incandescent bulb is one, emitting mostly radiation of great wavelengths (infrared and red light) but also minor quantities of radiation of short wavelength (blue and UV light). The visible radio emission of older types of fluorescent lamps is rather complete, say with an even amplitude versus wavelength function, or say with a broadband spectrum, too, except for a lack of red.

Although pure mercury lights appear neutral-white to the eye they are not full-spectrum lights. Pure sodium lights are neither. Some modern types of fluorescent lights have a very peaky, ugly, flowerly unwise spectrum which might also tire the eye and appear flat and infidele in certain situations.

Marketing terms for full-spectrum lights are "De luxe", "Master Color" and "Colorarc". Most modern metal-halide HID lights are "full-spectrum". Modern LID lights (fluoros) advertized with "full-spectrum" are not as "full" as old-style fluoros because they must find a balance between durability and spectrum. Old-style fluoros will have lost a significant amount brightness after 1.000 or 2.000 hours of use. Modern fluoros stay honor bright for much longer.

Actually I've done tests using a light meter one t5 floros and HID lighting.

As far as lumens per watt go.
54w T5 (5000 lumens) = 92 lumens per watt
400w HPS (50,000 lumens) = 125 lumens per watt

The ticket here is that the T5 system runs cool enough that it can be placed inches above the plant where-as the 400w..or any wattage HID for that matter had to be kept a distance away. The conclusion was with the light meter that stated that the t5 system put more light on the top of the plant then the HID light at a safe distance.

Granted it is a different style of growing. 1000w lights can grow trees.. plants under T5 systems must be kept (finishing) under 2'-2.5'. I've personally seen (2) 8 lamp T5 fluorescent systems outperforming a 1k HPS. No lie, but there are tons of factors involved of course. T5s are easy to keep cool whereas a guy may struggle with the heat of 1k or more and get less results.

Everyone saying that T5s cannot compare to HID lighting through flower are seriously in the dark IMHO.

BUT, without pictures feel free to take this post as blowin smoke. :moon:

There was a all fluro grow on OG with a ton of watts and stacked grow areas to keep short SOG style plants. I'm not sure on specifics but the guy got a lot out of it. His whole grow was adapted to the style though.

What did you have to spend for 4 8 bulb T5 setups? I'll bet my little 1K Hortilux was ALOT cheaper than a single 8 bulb setup. I think I'll stick with light penetration and the ability to air cool the light efficiently.

You can indeed grow some great plants with fluoros...as long as you realize their limitations. SOGs are Scrogs will work great...but if you try to grow bushes or anything larger, you'll end up with a bunch of popcorn unless you give them excessive amounts of side lighting.

BTW, fluoros put off more heat per watt...it's just spread out over a larger area.

o..the T5 light systems are a bit pricey, but after seeing 1st hand what they can do I had to try them. This is a hobby and I dont mind spending into it. (its actually a pretty cheap hobby when you consider the rewards compared to other hobbies one might have). Having enough of the best smoke around to share with friends and family is priceless.

I do love 1k lights, dont get me wrong. They are raw power and make it easy to achieve amazing results. Unfortunately my space at the moment doesn't allow me to kick on the big HIDS. The huge colas you get out of a 1k light is priceless in itself.

Thank you all!

Thank you all!

Wow!,
thank you for all of your opinions and information, folks. Very impressive. After doing some research, I began to think perhaps more research is in order. I will be picking up the 6 light fixture with the T6 bulbs for my veg chamber and I will post the detailed journal for all to see. For the plants I want to grow, I do agree with definitely using HID for flowering.

here are the specs posted for the T6 lights

http://fullspectrumsolutions.com/lighting_fixtures.shtml

I think the claims and specs are worth further tests. I will keep you posted.

peace
and
thanks again
