New Setup. Tell me what you think!!

Hey all,

I have grown twice in soil with crap lights, so i purchased a 400 watt MH/HPS system, constructed my own air cooled hood and I am growing in a metal storage cabinet. I haven't finished construction yet. I still have to hook up the vents to the hook, hook up another general exhaust and put in four 1 3/4" intake holes at the bottom. I also have 2 mil mylar to cover the cabinet in.

I am going to grow seeds I brought home from Jamaica, so I am assuming that they are 100% sativa. The bud I got it from was AMAZING.

Since they are sativa and my grow cabinet is only about 5' tall, I am thinking I am going to have to SCROG it. What do you think so far??

Here's a picture of what I've done thus far....

Unless you have cool air coming in the intakes, you may have a heat problem. I first grew in a cabinet with a 400 and I had a lot of problems during the warm months.

If they are Sativa, you are going to want to flower them quite young to try and keep their height down. A scrog is normally done with quite a number of plants. How many are you growing?

metal conducts heat well, thus, a metal cabinet will radiate heat from all sides. this is good for keeping temps down but bad when it comes to stealth . if someone touches the cabinet it might feel quite warm . on the other hand, that wont be an issue if your intake/exhaust is adequate.

the cabinet is in my basement so the air is cool.

How young should I start flowering?

I have many seeds from Jamaica, I was thinking that I could fit 4-6 plants in there.....

you still need airflow through there, regardless of how cool your basement might be. if your air cooled hood works really well, you can at least minimize the holes you need for intake and exhaust

I have read of people that have put them to flower as early as 2 weeks from seed. Some do it even sooner, but I think 3 weeks would be soon enough.

311 you can safely begin to flower them at about 1 1/2-2 weeks after first true leaves are established......but if you do ScRoG them you can get a better yeild although it will take more time but IMHO its worth it

here's an update. Cabinet just about complete, I just have to put the carbon filters in the exhausts holes.

Heres my complete setup

400 MH/HPS w/ batwing refector in a homemade air cooled hood (4" intake & exhaust fans, polycarbonate plexi glass)

4" inline exhaust

4, 1 3/4 intake holes w/ 90 degree elbows on the end
2 mil mylar sheeting ( which I CANNOT get to lay flat!! :badday: )

other than the mylar being crinkly....i'd say it should work just fine!

wow...the bottom with all the crinkles in the light looks really trippy lol....but did you cut the mylar to just a bit bigger than each wall and overlapping them (easier to handle) or put it up as one??

Hey 311
Thats a nice cab you got there.I had problems with mylar laying flat too,I got some cardbroad and 3m spray contact cement.Cut the cardbroad to fit the walls of the cab and cut the mylar 2" bigger then the cardbroad, spray the cardbroad and the mylar.
Tape the mylar to the top of the cardbroad and roll out about one foot and spary the mylar and pull it tight with it on the roll and lay it down on the cardbroad smoothing it out as you unroll it on the cardbroad. Now you have a smooth peace of mylar on the cardbroad, use some double face tape on the back of the cardbroad and place it on the cab walls.Do the side walls first, the back wall last so the 1" of the mylar over laps on the sides.Thats how I get the mylar to lay flat.I get my cardbroad free from appliance stores {refrigerator boxes}Hope this helps or gives you some ideas. PEACE

I cut each side seperatley and put it up, but it gets all crinkled around the intake/vent/exhaust holes....is it gonna cause me major problems if I can't get it all flat?
