New Lab Design & Build

Hey IC Maggers

What better way to start off the new year than designing and building a new setup!

Huge shout out to DHF for his help so far; we go back several years and he's never steered me wrong.

The initial design is in an area of approximately 54'x30' wide open space. Access is limited, which places restrictions on layout design.

Here's the initial drawing I've thrown together:

Here's one side, Flower Room #1 & 2:

Sealed rooms, Co2, trees in canna coco, #5 smart pots, 1/4" feed lines with a good pump, daily feeding (or more) DTW, 1000W vertical bare bulbs in a diamond pattern modified to fit 10'x25' flowering rooms. 2x2 chicken wire covering the ceilings.

10 trees/11KW per flower room, 4 flower rooms with monthly harvest. Vegged from clone for 8 weeks.

Taking possession in 3 weeks... more to come!

Take care

ZZTops - About 44KW here plus a few more in Veg :)

farmari - I'll update as I can and when there are things to post!

Still on the drawing board so changes may come, however this design is looking like it may stay.

With four identical flower rooms, I've been contemplating experimenting with different setups. ie. straight horizontal, horizontal with vertical, straight vertical, 600's vs 1000's, etc.

Or maybe I'll just fill em up with pretty flowers and lots of light!

Nice to have options. Good luck, will be watching from the sidelines. :tiphat:

Hey 5th, thanks for stopping by. It's great having options.

Something else I've wanted to do for years is a large side by side LED vs 1000W with all other things being equal. Still hard to find an unbiased larger grow with LED's being used. Having to spend upwards of $1500 per light upfront doesn't excite me too much either, especially when you compare a bare bulb setup on $250 digital ballast.

Compiling a wish list for all the equipment. Gonna be a huge order!

And this is why The Lab is a perfect name/title.

Yeah the prices of some of the equipment out there is truley mind boggling...but having the area to think about setting aside, let alone putting into practice any and every experiment/comparison you damn well want...well truly, my hats off to you sir. :tiphat:

With 48+k bare, sealed, I don't know if 10 tons will do it. What's your climate? You'll need to pull a LOT of AC'd air thru those rooms. Spring for high SEER units, in the 20's. I advise you to check the stickies for AC/lites formulas. Good luck. -granger

I think he'll be flipping the flower rooms... thats the only way I see it possible given that wattage and AC power.

Each 5 ton would only be cooling one of the 11k flower rooms at any given time. (1 & 2 flip with one another. 3 & 4 flip with one another)

I think your design/plan is spot on Stealth.. Totally envious over here. Would love to design a space like that from the ground up.

Socialist - I still haven't made the final decision on this yet, but probably ducted. Excel has a new fabric 15' ducting to attach to their plenum on the AC; looks very effective for even distribution. Problem is, even though they have a good product, it is way overpriced when compared to other systems. I hear their customer service is top notch, standing 100% behind their units, however at approx. $10K including their damper system on a 5T Stealth, that's harsh.

Granger2 - FlowerFarmer is bang on with the flips. Bloom rooms 1 & 2 will be flipped along with 3 & 4. In reality, I could get away with a 4 Ton unit set up this way, however I do like to go overkill.

I've found some decent 4 ton splits that I could use one per room. The upside to this is if one unit quits, the other could be temporarily rigged to cool the opposing room. It's also a hell of lot easier to drop night temps with individual units. The downside is a dedicated 50Amps each. . .

FF, how's the trimming going?? Looks like you're going to do very well on that room.

One day closer to possession. . .

Hey Bro.....Glad things are lookin up for the new digs....and hey......No offense to the Growroom designs and equipment category cuz this project is still in the works , but your new thread once set up belongs in Vert Forums for all to take notice of for the proper respect.....now.....

We`ve talked at length in PM so yas should have all yer ducks in a row , but if there`s anything yas`re unsettled on just Holler.......

Hey Freds, thanks for coming by! Even tho I'm a little nervous stepping out of the "Horizontal / Soil" comfort zone and stepping into the "Vertical / Coco" world, I like the setup of these rooms. Massive light lumens via direct and indirect lighting, with all sides of the plants producing their maximum. These trees are gonna blow the fuck out of this place!

I've had to bastardize your 10'x10' rooms a little and stretch them out longer. The only way I could have put in double the number of 10'x10's was to setup a larger lung room and duct each room individually. Aside from the loss of space to accomplish that, the other issue was Co2 supplementation for the rooms in night mode. The lung room would've had to be split into 2 to feed daytime/nighttime, which would've become a ducting nightmare!!!

The difference is I now have double the "diamond formation" of lights, plus an extra bulb and 2 plants in the center. In essence I've capitalized on this design by extending the diamond formation to 25' in length. With Orca covering all walls and ceiling, and the extra light reflecting within, it is going to be insanely bright in there!

I will definitely have to wear proper eye wear going in. . .

I've been looking at the Tropf Maxi Blumats and it seems they are the cats ass. Are you still using them or is it easier/more reliable to use pumped feedings?
Even being in the room every day, I'd still be worried that a carrot quit feeding for the day, seeing that they're sitting in Coco. There does seem to be a lot of happy peeps with them.

Stay safe

Stealth, FlowerFarmer,
Yeah I forgot about the flip, which will make a critical difference. Good luck. Keep us informed on your progress. -granger

Stay safe with timed fed DTW and experiment with some "Maxi`s" on the side till yas feel more comfortable with doin more.......

Blumat`s aren`t for everyone and have a definite learning curve
but rock like a mofo once dialed........

The maxi`s def are rockin it at the invite only med sites , but again as said takes some intermediate grower experience and attention to detail.......anyways....

I`ll be over here on my bucket waitin fer shit ta blow up.......

Peace......Freds......:ying:......
