New Grow Cab - HydroHut Style

Hello ladies and gents ;)

well.. it certainly has been a while since i have been on here... been very very busy... as well as moving around alot... so i finally decided to get something that would allow me to take my grow room with me.

I began looking at HydroHuts, even though they have amazing quality, I am unable to afford one... so of couse, I opted for the next best thing... build one my self :D

so i set out to Canadian Tire and Home Depot on a search for something that i could use to build it and with luck.. i came upon these "Covered Garment Racks" which were 40"x19"x61" ... so i bought two! :D

So I assembled them and put them back to back... I forgot to start taking pictures before i started doing stuff so theres a bit of a gap, but it should make sense.. hahah.... so i cut out the backs of each of the closets and this is what I arrived at....

This is where the immense fun of learning how to sew things came into play... haha, I now see the benefits; haha :D

This was the strongest/fastest way to do it was.. that I found... I'm sure there are other ways, but this seemed to give the best "seal" of the two seams...

Finished sewing all the "main" parts in about 2 and a half hours... not to bad for just learning how to sew!!! :D haha

This one is a bit blurry, but you can see that there is no more gap between the two seams... very good seal imo.

Next, i lined the inside with emergency blankets... these ones were nice bcause they have a tarp like coating on the back which makes it easy to handle, as well as making it easy to sew into the other fabic.

well this is as far as I got... besides putting in the light to see the coverage... seems to be pretty good!...the bottom area of the cab is 101.6 centimeters... or 1.01 meters.

The lamp that I currently have is a 400watt Metal Halide Ballast...I also have a conversion builb to HPS which I use for flowering...

So... now all that I have left to do is aquire a carbon filter and a fan... Because I am cheap, I am wonding if anyone from the IC knows a good source for cheap inline fans/carbon filters ;D (not the ones that you can get and homedepot... they are a little too cheap for me) I have looked for the stanely blower... but, I have been unable to find it in any of the stores in my area... some what depressing :(

still got some SWT#3, L.S.D., and others waiting to be germed for this cab :D hopefully it will be in prime shape in at least 2-3 weeks time :D

Till next time!

Nice DIY! What was your cost? I do have a HH, pretty happy w/ it.

You could order a Stanley fan online. What about the Panasonic fan? Good luck, you're getting close! :D:yes:

This is the money you could be saving if you grow

I made a quilt once and a sewing machine is easy to used, and you can get some nice tight seams. Looks very nice.

Hi Strike,

Nice tent, how lightproof is it? I originally wanted to build my own but went for the convenience of a budbox!

You've got a nice area it looks like, should be easier to look after them girls! (and do you have a fire extinguisher/alarm nearby? better to be safe...)

(pics from my last grow in august)

And if you haven't had a look in here already, then http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=1283152&highlight=tent#post1283152

Might help you get some ideas for the ventilation etc.

So...since you sewed them up, how do you break them down for portability which was the main reason for getting this? I am looking for something that can break down easy for moving, too. I built myself 2 cabs out of 2x4's for a frame and wrapped in panda film, velcro'd on, but even that is not very easy to break down and re-set back up, so I am looking for a better solution but do not want to drop the dough on 2 hydrohuts (veg/flower)

Appreciate the interest :)

Well, it turns out a good buddy of mine has a new 4" inline fan; brand new that hes willing to give to me on discount... I am not sure of the brand i think its "eclispe" or something of that nature...ill get a pic :D I've added some modifications and what not, I will post pics of them once i get the fan and everything else... I've been looking into those Odorsok things.... I'm gonna give it a try.... see what happens, haha... anyone try these out?

ok... now to the questions :D haha

Highlighter: My costs so far have been about $100 Canadian, this includes the two closets, one emergency blanket (I had another one from previous grows) and a sewing kit...

Sammet: The light leaks with the emergency blankets is pretty much slim to none, but as you can see near the bottom/top where there is nothing... some light is able to escape... these are some of the modifications i have been working on as well...

s0cK3y3: Sammet answered it spot on :) its pretty much 5 feet...

marx2k: the only things that I sewed together were the closets and the emergency blankets.... the metal poles are able to be detached from the plastic on the tops and bottoms... but basically once all the lights and fans are out, you lift the bottom of the cloth up, remove the metal poles from the plastic bottom pieces, lift out the bars... at this point you can just turn the top structural piece and pull it out, leaving you with the shell... which can be folded and put away... NOW.. mind you, I have yet to try this out fully... but as I was building it I checked to make sure that it would be possible to do this.... I will post a picture of the instructions for one of them so you can get the idea... That being said... There are no screws what so ever in this set up... I also found these clamps that require no screwing around ;) (pun intended haha :) ) which makes it alot easier when taking out the ventilation.

To the others, thanks for your input! greatly appreciated :D keep the comments and questions comin

Cheers

nice work strike99.

a thought for others that may be looking for something a bit more sturdy, if you order boltless shelving, or boltless racks from any industrial supply or rack supply place, they work great.

You can get any height, width and depth you want, they will come with particle board shelves, so you have a roof and floor already, then it is very easy to bolt on rigid insulation, or even sew on some type of soft covering. haning the lamp and mounting you extraction gear on the roof or top shelf. this product can be purchased for 100-200 US (again, in virtually any size you need)

came together very easily for my space 5 ft long, 4ft deep, and 6 ft high.

peace

The Build Continues!!!!

The Build Continues!!!!

Well, I've certainly been busy... mainly just having issues with some light leaks along where the zipper is... but anyways, lemme show you guys what I have done :joint:

First, I just wanna start with the instructions for one of the closets... this is so you can get an idea of how it would come together/apart...

So, My buddy came through and I got a very nice exhaust fan... does about 190 CFM; inlets are 4"... picture of the box below...

Ive been reading and decided that an odorsok seems like a good option; I rigged it up directly to the fan, but I am not really happy with the seal/look of it... you'll see what I mean in later pictures...

Here is a pic of the ducting for the exhaust, I added another emergency blanket onto the top of the box, seems to work well... although not much light goes up there... every little photon counts ;) haha.... the pic after is the outside of the tent... was a bit difficult to get it sewn in there, but... seems to have turned out all right..

Heres the fan and the Odorsok... suspended by bungie cords :D... haha, see how the odorsok is cheaply taped on there... (this is how the instructions suggested...not great) I think im going to see if I can rig some ducting in to it, clean it up a little...... I found these nice clamps that have a butterfly nut type of thing on them... thought they were a good idea for ease of taking down... remember, theres no screws, nuts, bolts in this setup...

Pic of all the fans in....

Pic of the top; there you can see the exhaust outlet.. I also added anothe one for wires and what not from the ballast and for the fans...

Next, I lined the bottom with some panda film...Huge difference in light now.. everything is reflectant :D I left the sides open because this is where I cut some opening in the sides for air to enter... i didnt take pics of that, but basically there is just little slits in the fabric at the bottom edge of the side....

Cab Exterior... sooo briighhhttt :jump:

Alright.... well thats all I have done for now... basically all I have left as i said before were the light leaks... should be tied up soon tho... I have lots of extra panda film ;)

Hopefully we will have some babies in there in a week or so :D

Cheers all,

S99

Sweet man, I'm just getting my next show on the road later this week. We can have a grow off :D Good choice of strains too.

Awesome that your tent cost $125. My budbox xl cost $200, and thats with exchange rates being crazy and the budboxes being on sale over here. That $75 towards beans, and the satisfaction of knowing you made it yourself, unlike lazybones here :D Looking forward to updates mate. :joint:
