I've modified a few cell phones for this reason. I installed a micro slide switch (dip switch) in the cell phone. Slide the switch off and the microphone is off. No way to listen after that.

well i never download anything to my phone so i don't see how i'm going to catch any of their spyware...also if u keep the phone in ur pocket i think its going to have a hard time picking anything important up...i always keep mine buried deep within my burton parka, lol...

They used this technology to turn on phones and listen to them during the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center to look for survivors. From what I heard (on national news; heard it once, nothing was ever said about it again), the CIA and FBI have this technology and lent it to the rescuers. And now, with new cell phones coming out that allow 911 calls to identify your location, the government will theoretically be able to track your movements at all times, even if you aren't calling 911!

One of the best ways to avoid government intrustion is to go low-tech. Just ask Kim Jong Il; our intelligence services cannot infiltrate North Korea very well, since there are relatively few electronic ways to gather intelligence. I mean, hell, we don't even know what the inside of his palaces and government buildings look like!

I have a friend computer savy enough to do that to your computer mic I have not had a TV with a mic nor a mic hooked up to my computer since he showwed me what he could do .
That tears it I'm puttin my tin foil hat back on I dont care if i look stupid

Remember that speakers can act as mic's...
Edit: whenever i go to the spot i leave the cell at home, if i have a burner on me then I'll take the battery out. I used to do this for reasons of GPS tracking, now i have another reason.

just think what the "new" digital TV's the are pushing can do,.... "1984" here we come... I truly think (due to the quality of todays shows and the possable risks) I will NOT be buying any new TV's ever.... there is so much more better things to do,,,,,,,

This is why I dont own a cell phone and never will...... plus there a big waste of money for the terrible service they provide. Im glad I never got on the cell phone wagon...... im happy with just my lan line. Ill also never have a car with an onstar system. No mic on my PC either..... aint hapenin. Its pretty simple guys....... just get rid of yur damn cell phones. Everytime I turn around I see someone with a phone glued to there head. People have become addicted to cellphones and talking on phones, its pretty pathetic if you ask me. Like I said, just look around you, you'll see atleast one out of every 3 people with a cell phone stuck to there head all damn day. What the hell do you need to talk on the phone so much about anyways. Most of the time people are just calling others on there cell phone just to us ethe damn thing... not because they have something important to say. It saddens me.....

I hate nothing more than cellphones and will never own one.

Of course , your land line is an easy one. For a two hundred dollar device the po po can turn on your home phone, and listen to everything in the room without you knowing it. So even when home , when doing something , unplug the handset!
