Saludos
I think David Watson said that if you put an indica in complete darkness for 24 hours, two weeks later it will show its sex and continue vegetating. With the purest sativas it may be necessary to put it in complete darkness for 2 or even 3 days. A very useful and interesting fact. Regards

Hi @LG/ sorry for asking so late ... how did you NC indoor grow finish ?
No worries Dubi! You do a great job of responding to everyone, I appreciate what you do.

I'm going to copy a post I put in another forum about Mango Biche. Has my thought on the New Caldonia in there. Seems applicable. Sorry for the long answer.

I also want to preface this by saying I made mistakes and my enviornment is not ideal. I'll take blame as much as and up to 100% for my less than ideal results. Except with the Mango Biche, those things were just something else.

Also I don't know much about anything, especially with landrace sativas. This is all my hypothesis, me guessing basically. Here goes.

I ran a few landrace types sativas recently.
It was humbling but worth it, alot like when I manually changed the tires on my scooter. So frustrating, but I got it done. Although the end result is better on the tires than the landrace sativas.

For my own understanding, I have been grouping landrace type sativas in two categories. 1- a somewhat worked probably hybridized at some point type. Does ok or even good indoors. And 2- an unworked wild type, long flowering, finicky to do indoors.

This Mango Biche falls in category 2. Probably on the extreme end.

For comparison:

The Nevils Haze is more in category 1 (although went a few extra weeks). Stretchy but manageable. Even a couple more indica fat bud phenos. Alot of variation. Noticeably hybrid smoke, not pure sativa.

Original Haze from AG had some pheno variation, and was closer to category 2 in growth pattern with some, but had some quicker phenos too. Lacked flavor. Often my complaint with sativas. Not bad taste, but bland (compared to modern hybrids). This one out of everything is what I would explore more. Great high. Good pure clean sativa high.

New Caldonia (Ace) grew smaller generally speaking. Category 1. Out of 6 seeds had 5 females. Every plant hermed (anthers) to some degree, but my enviornment is far from ideal. Also likely hybridized, more manageable size and some skunk type notes. Relatively uniform, just varied in size. I did have one of the five females that only threw anthers later in flower. I kept a clone of that one. Others had alot of anthers right in mid flower. I bet running from clone they would be more stable. Nice finished product. Good taste, good high.

Destroyer, long full colas, category 1. Bad germ rate tho. Likely hybridized, skunk notes. Nice finished product. Good smoke, but it lived up to its name. Not my favorite high.

Double Jam (Jamaican x Jamaican from Kwik) was also category 2. Tough to get a finished product that looks decent, but some cool foxtails. Good smoke, good high.

Thai from Ace was uniform (worked line) but didn't give me finished buds that look very good (I'll admit USER error or a steep learning curve, aka my mistakes). Got abit better with cure. Cat 2. But a worked line. Uniform. Likely my mistakes that gave me this result. Good potential. Nice foxtail style buds on some colas. Good smoke, nice clean sativa high. All mental.

I'd love to be in a tropical region, or southern Mexico and be able to play more with these outside. But in the future I'll be looking more for worked, or even hybridized, sativa lines that will play nice (for lack of a better explanation) and give better results for me indoors. But I don't regret doing this run at all. I've been growing well over 10 years, and this was a whole new experience. So that's great in and of itself.

Again sorry for the long post, but it seemed relevant.

Thanks for what you do Dubi!

Your feedback is indeed relevant and much appreciated @LG/ :) And i would say quite on point, thank you so much! Glad you managed to harvest the New Caledonians despite the bananas and that you liked their finished product.

I remember your indoor grow, and plants were quite crowded in the grow and flowered young too!
Hopefuly the mature NC you’re keeping in clone form responds firmly with more space.

It's much harder to get a decent indoor looking flowers from the Thai Chiang Mai, although if you plant enough, you can find high yielding individuals better adapted to indoor growing. Happy the Thais stayed firm and that you enjoyed the finished product! ;)

Our beautiful boy decided... after having cut off his balls... to be a girl now!

So i don't want her ^^ anymore to pollinate another strain... How likely is it that she will produce pollen sacs or bananas again later? So better don't grow her out and kill her instead i think... 🤔

With NC you should be a bit careful during first half of flower, a part of the plants is still sexually unstable.
In my opinion you should only keep plants without herm tendencies except if you have such goals in breeding or to keep an open population.
Keep a close look on the other ones too, my experience was finding out at around week 5 that a female turned male and it got my whole crop full of seeds. Could be worse but it was pretty bad timing and result.
I should be more careful in early flower, there probably were signs I ignored...
Maybe the best strategy with NC is to select a mother plant and keep clones for flowering in proper grows.

Cheers

The bigger girl is already stretching a lot... and it were only 4 days since repotting! Flowering day 7.

I'm exited to see how big she will get in 3L soil with 100w LED. 🙃 I tied down the two heads after doing these photos.

The other female is more moderate. I let her grow for now but will keep my eyes open. ^^ She has narrower leaves than the big one. :)
