New autoflowering Fast Hybrid?

G

Guest

I got some Lowryder beans from RM. Two germed and they both happened to be Males. I let them grow and crossed them with a flowering female that was identified as a Santa Maria. She took 16 weeks to finish. I got some nice beans from her and immediately germed some out. They broke open in less than 24 hours and are now planted.
My question is this: Will they be autoflowering offspring? The lowryders were extremely FAST flowering in only 3.5 weeks!!!! The Santa Maria is painfully slow. What can I expect?

Welcome to ICMag dude!!
Expect varation....the autoflowering genes will probably show up in a certain amount of the phenos, while others may not autoflower....some will most likely be somewhere in between. Check out Mdanzigs forum in the vendor section...im sure there are threads there about the percentages of autoflowering in LR hybrids..

Expect the beans from the LR x Santa Maria (f1) to show NO SIGNS of autoflower.

Then you have to grow that generation out, and do either of two things:

You can backcross to LR and the next generation will be 50% af

OR, (this is what I reccomend) you could inbreed your favorites from the f1's, and your f2's will show 10-25% autoflower, but more of the genes from the cross will remain, which is the whole point ,right? So basically, it takes a couple generations longer, but in the long run it's more efficient like that if the point of your AF breeding is to add potency, yield, etc

The results of actual "% of AF" will vary from strain to strain though, these figures are just a guide. But from what know, generally you'll see very little if any AF in your f1's.

Good luck, man.

the lowryder #2, which is lowryder x santa maria has been inbred several generations (i think i read 5?) so that it is guaranteed 100% autoflowering. the joint doctor (original creator of lowryder) has been working on it for a few years now.

getting away from the lowryder genepool, you may want to do a search for "guerilla gold" and check out greens' wonderstrain! :)

Wow...weird..that's the same makeup as LR2. It definitely takes a few if not several generations to breed the AF trait in. Still won't stabilize the plant, but you'll get an unstable 100% autoflowerer. Not bad at all if that's what you're looking for. I think mdanzig used the LR male in his masterlow and powerstout. Then just bred the resulting AF male to a selected female....over and over again

More on the babies

Thanks everyone for your input! I guess what I'd really like to know is how to grow these babies out???
Right now they are getting 18 hours of light. That's what I grew the fathers out at. Should I move them to my 12/12 room or take the chance on autoflowering with the 18/6 regimine?

Depending on how many you have. You might get one ot two autoflowering F1 individuals if you have like a hundered. Moving them to the flowering room sounds like a good idea.

Ganico's first post was right on the money. However, perhaps it's a bit optimistic to say
You can backcross to LR and the next generation will be 50% af.

The LR x Santa Maria F1's

The LR x Santa Maria F1's

Here they are at day 3 after emergence. Notice the uniformity. I'll probably give them 10 days before the transplant. Then onto 12/12.

He did use the LR as the male for his crosses, but he backcrossed the f1's to LR again and then selected the autoflowers. That's where I got my "50% af" figure after the backcross.

So masterlow, for example is: LR/MasterKush x LR = MasterLow

I'm smoking her now. She gave up her seeds to me and the progeny are pictured above. Finished her off with Molassas. Excellent puff-puff. Smooth, sweetish, and just a bit on the paranoia side. Whew!!!

Using the NEW Miracle Grow moisture control formula. It's real nice with cocoa fiber and peat moss. Drys uniformly and lets you know when it's time to water again. No food, just an application of SUPERTHRIVE one drop per gallon for good root development. Forward!
