Im going to keep my eyes peeled around here locally both on craigslist and the local shops to see what they have. I suppose starting off with the econowing wouldnt be the worst if i could upgrade the hood in a timely manner.

In a 3x3x5 tent with a stanley blower pulling through a can 33 carbon filter, a 95 cfm hydrofarm cooling fan that ill be using as intake (pulling cool air from the AC register), and a couple osc fans.....will ya think that will stay cool enough for a 400w? Mind you i will be exhausting into the room the tent is in and not into an attic or anything. lets say ambient room temp is 70.

Well just a little update. ended up finding a switchable 400w ballast with a super sun 2 hood for $80 used. He also threw in a brand new hortilux Lu400s! not too shabby eh?

I let a buddy of mine use my tent for an emergency so i figured it would be a good opportubity to get a new one. Im lookin at either a 36x36x60 or a 36x20x60. The super sun 2 seems to have more of a rectangle footprint, but i think it would still do fine in a 36x36 square. whatcha think?

A rectangular hood (meant for lighting rectangular footprints) will work fine in a square footprint (as long as the square footprint isn't bigger than the rectangular foot print of said hood),but a square hood will not be good in a rectangular hood.

IMO,ditch the hood and hang a 400w-600w HPS bare bulb down the center of the tent.
