neil ,we forgive you for the whole kimono thing!

Actually, I think it was Geddy Lee who first did the kimono thing.

Bummer, re: Peart's passing.

A friend of mine told me that the only concert he ever walked out of was a Rush concert because he couldn't stand Geddy Lee's voice.

Keith Moon

Neil Peart.

Heaven has one heck of a rhythm section

Rest in Beats, man.

I forgot how awesome Permanent Waves is......

Ive got them all on vinyl up until Counterparts.

After that.....I, kinda fell off.

But Ive been playing them all. Front to back and words simply can not describe the talent this man posessed.

Those of you out there that play drums, I think, would concur.

This was so sad to see, Rush was the first concert that I saw, older brother who has now passed took me and we would go every year. The live shows were amazing, outdoors on the lawn and a lot of goodies to pass around. RIP

Rest easy, brother.

I used to obsessively listen to Rush when I was really young and was just starting to learn the drums. I would bang away in the basement and I would pretend that I was him or John Bonham.
I kept listening to them through the years and I'm still amazed at the 'feel' of their albums and how much incredible music those three men made...I never saw them live and it's a regret for sure.

For kicks, check out the intro on the Suck on This album by Primus. They do a little 2112 thing and I really love it.

His lyrics and drumming are unmatched...And to think that the guy tragically lost his daughter- and then his wife shortly thereafter- and kept going...Fuck, man, his passing is really, really sad.

I hope you really are resting now. God bless.

It's a shame, like always, that once someone passes, everyone explores material more than before, myself being guilty of such and I had no idea as to his depth beyond the kit....Just got a new car and actually loaded (among other things) their entire catalog in car....

His travels, his books, and so on....(link here....)

Of course also as mentioned all personal matters as well with family, but it must be truly something to have such an impact on history and the world, either directly through the music, or indirectly through the work of all those influenced over decades and worldwide, and the continued ripple of such. (If there was no Peart, there would be no Portnoy, and so on....and multiplied further as it no Peart, then no Rush and if no Rush then no thousands of other bands, bass players, guitar players, and so on........) Directly, indirectly touched cumulatively millions upon millions for decades in a positive way....

Truly worthy of the title "Professor".

Not to nitpick Julian but John Rutsey was Rush's first drummer.so there would still be Rush.just not the one we all know and love

Possibly not even remotely close to the same one. Maybe due to that, they wouldn't have achieved what they did and none of us would even be aware now, etc, etc....The impact one single individual can have on the entire project is sometimes beyond calculation. Between skill set(s), contributions, chemistry, compositions, etc.....in many cases one could remove a single individual and it would be the difference between who they are now and a path that thousands of other bands fell into/failed to materialize over the last several decades. Yes, many have replaced members once at the top of their game.....but would they have got there to begin with?....The examples fun to think about, as almost every band that has achieved something significant it would apply....much more so the case when referring to superior skill sets and contributions (as opposed to simply unique, which that alone could also make the difference....)

Rutsey, not unlike Neil, really wasnt into the 'fame' aspect of being a musician.
To me, that first album kicked ass, but, nothing like a 2112, Moving Pictures, Hemispheres, or Permanent Waves.
The band hated Caress of Steel, and, to me that was a great record, too.....
Bastille Day? Lakeside Park? Dare I say I Think I'm Going Bald?? Takes some smoke to get through the second side of the album, but, that was great, too.....

Hell, even Roll the Bones and Counterparts were great albums that no one really listens to anymore.

Moving Pictures goes to the forefront of everyones' mind when Rush is mentioned.

I just dont think Rush survives without Neil and his masterful lyrics, and his kimono........ let alone his talents behind the kit.

This one is going to take me some time to get over........
