Neem/Sunburn?!

High, all you fellow growers out there.

I got a mild spidermite attack on a few of my Outdoor plants.

Today, after sunset, I sprayed them with the Neem Oil solution from Plagron.

I didn´t use this product Outdoors before that´s why I´m concerned about possible leaveburn due to the strong summer sun.

The oil left a shiny residue on the leaves.

Should I spray the plants again with pure water the coming morning, or should I just leave them as they are?

How would the oil react with the sun?

Thank´s for any serious answer,

Plagron Neem Oil

Plagron Neem Oil

Anyone out there who has Outdoor experience with this product?

(It´s produced in the Netherlands.

Glanzöl" means "shiny oil" and is just the name of the product, - the main ingrediant is oil won from seeds of the Neem Tree...)

Peace,

spice

Spraying with water won't help. Oil and water don't mix.
In order to remove oil you need soap. I'd suggest castile soap.

Hello Inflorescence!

Thank´s for stopping by!

I don´t think I´m gonna wash them with soap.

Just with plain water, if really neccesary.

This product was produced for spraying plants, so I really hope that they already added "soap" or a similar "emulgator"...

Guess by just spraing it with water I could not totally get rid of all the oil, but that´s not the goal anyway, as I didn´t place the Neem there without a reason.

I´m just worried about too much of that stuff, and the interacion with sunlight.

Peace,

People wear sun tan oil to "cook" their skin. The same happens with plants.
The oil intensifies the light/heat. MJ doesn't have that much of a "waxy cuticle" for protection.
Oil also clogs stomata.
The product was designed for plants? Where in nature did that company figure plants were sprayed in oil??

I used to think that people use sun tan oil to protect their skin?

Yes, oil clogs the stomata, that´s why long term use is not recommended.

But in this case the oil is supposed to work against the mites.

Neem Oil and other Neem products have been successfully used to strenghten plants and kill biting insects- for hundreds of years now.

This also happens in Nature.

People found out that plants growing in the neighbourhood of Neem Trees were more healthy than others, and resistent to pests- at least a few HUNDREDS of years ago.

It's because of the active chemical, azadirchran (sp?). You can buy the chemical without the oil part. The oil part is the unrefined part although it does have good 'smothering" ability it can't distinguish between smothering a mites breathing pores or a plants breathing pores.
