you can try the repair option, i cant remember if its there when you press f8 as its starting up, but i know its there if you boot from a xp cd.

personally, i would remove the hard disk, fit it into an external caddy and plug it in a friends pc e.t.c and copy your data across, then format your drive and re-install windows from the cd.

I do freelance graphic design and computer repair/"clean up," and when a customer is too far out in the sticks to justify my driving to them I will use a program such as "Go2MyPC" to allow me to take care of their issues remotely as they watch what I'm doing on the screen. Not only is it convenient, it also helps the customer see what needs to be done so that they can get an idea of how to keep the computer running well. I'd be happy to take a look at yours for you at no charge, I've got a USB drive with all of my programs on it and it typically only takes about an hour (not counting scan times, of course) to get everything back to manufacturer spec or better. peace

edit- if you do choose to go somewhere and pay for the service, please avoid Best Buy's Geek Squad and any similar program. Those assholes couldn't PC-repair their way out of a wet paper bag.
