Need some advice on how many CFLs to use.

I'm running what is sort of on the brink of micro and macro growing. My veg chamber could definitely be called a micro grow. It's a bit under 2 square feet.

Right now my plants are thriving under 64W of two-foot T8 lamps, two 23W 6500K CFLs, and one 26W 2700K CFL. I am planning to switch to nine CFLs mounted in porcelain sockets pointing down. There will be eight 23W 6500K CFLs, and one 26W 2700K CFL in the middle for a tinge of added spectrum. So that's 210W in a smidge under 2 square feet. I'm trying to really encourage them to grow vertically, not horizontally. I want very tall, and dense but narrow plants. I have been topping the side nodes, but they're still growing vertically a lot slower than I would like.

Am I overdoing this?

So i take it thats just for vegging then cos your spectrum aint that good for flowering you need more 2700k in there for that!!!!!! apart from that u got all the light u could need in there... but seriously u want at least 50/50 red n blue but idealy more red than blue (when flowering)..

i also think u would have a much better yield if u was to lst those plants rather than doing the long thick single bud type grow.. i know u havnt got alot of space but u could easily train those plants and have 4 big colas per plant no problem at all... and will only take u another week of veg really from your current state!!!!


Do u have a fan in there???? what temps u running??? and try to get the light closer to those plants man... the thin tops are a waist and u should bend them over!!!!! gives the other budsites a chance to develop before flowering!!!!!

Thank you for the replies. Yes that is my veg chamber. My flowering chamber is next to it and considerably different. I am growing them skinny on purpose, and no I am not going to have a single large cola, or even 4 parallel ones. Instead I'm doing all my flowering with side-lighting, so the colas will be growing sideways. Think of a scrog put on it's side and made 360 degrees....

Growing them anything but skinny in veg will totally ruin my plans. To get a feel for what my experiment involves you could check out either of the two links in my signature. At the start of 12/12 I want a plant that is roughly 24" tall and no more than 6 inches in diameter. I've been pruning them to stop their horizontal growth.
