the filter reduces a lot of capacity from the exhaust, i bet you are causing over pressure in your grow and there by causing smell seep. try turning off the intake and just let the exhaust run. you will get enough air coming in just by the vacuum you create by running the exhaust only. after 30 mins or so check for smell again. with the intake fan off.

umm maybe im just misreading that but if i turn off the inline fan .. how would the the air go out into the next room threw the carbon filter?

also how would i be making over pressure if i am only running the line fan sucking at 10-15% power to pull air threw the carbon filter and out into the basement?

how can you run the filter through the air intake? that will not work, you need to worry about exhausting the filtered air, fresh air will come in by its self to replace what you exhaust. running a filter through the intake will not do anything for your smell outside your grow space, lol. basically you are taking clean air from outside and running it through the filter the wrong way. so your plants are getting filtered air, but nothing in that setup is filtering the air that needs to be filtered, that is the exhaust.

all i have is one inline fan. i goes......carbon filter threw two vented hoods to the inline fan then out to the basement

ONA = Odor Neutralizing Agent, it's basically a more commercial version of fabreeze or something similar. I'm currently researching odor control right now before expanding and my next step is a Vaportek Optimum 4000, you might consider looking into that. I've decided ozone isn't the best route due to side effects. I've heard good things about the Optimum 4000 and it will be what I try next...I'll let you know in a few months how it works.

if you have the right size fan/scrubber you should not need any other Oder control. Im using a can 50 in a 10x12 room no smell anywhere. The flower room does not smell much at all as well. I have it in a corner of the room as a reserc scrubber IMO the best way to use them.

Agreed. But still...something about that ona. Think I'm addicted to the scent. Lol.

what is that???

It's just like anon said...it's an odor neutralizer.

Imagine a 5 gallon bucket filled with a soil moist polymer and a mixture of water and ona concentrate (febreze on roids basically). Fit a table top fan (face down) to the lid or top of the bucket. Toss some duct tape in to help with the fitting. Drill holes across the top 1/3 of the bucket. Stagger them. Cut it on and BAM! the fan will force the scent of the ona mix from the bucket through the holes.

I still recommend the use of a filter. You'll realize that in most grows it becomes a MUST have item very quickly. But if you don't mind the scent of a little ona, it's a cheap fall back to use in unison with a filter. Well...it's never done wrong by me at least.

So just one filter->fan->room setup?

Do you just leave it on high so the filter does the most filtering over the long term? Do you still use one in addition to that for the exhaust? I've got a 2'x4'x6' grow with 3 plants, 6" fan, 6"x20" filter. I even recently changed the order of the cab from [[Filter->duct->cooltube->duct->fan->duct out]] to {{filter->fan->duct->cooltube->duct out}}, and I've still got odor on the exhaust. Did I get a crap filter or do they really just not handle it all? Is getting a in-room recirculating filter->fan->out combo really the best way?

EDIT: changed filter description from 6" to 6"x20" for better clarity.

WHERE is the fan located in the ducting run?

Is your setup Filter > Fan > a/c hoods > exit tent?

When setup like above, so that the fan is mounted DIRECTLY to the filter flange, you only have negative pressure INSIDE the tent/grow room up until the fan itself.

When set up like this any leaks in hoods or ducting are negligible because the leaks will have positive pressure on them and will re-enter the grow tent/room to be rescrubbed by the filter.

Here are some graphics of what I went from and to.
From= Filter>duct>cooltube>duct>fan>out [current_air_diagram.png]
Now= Filter>fan>duct>cooltube>duct out [new_air_diagram.png]

I understand that that the new system will result in positive pressure with filtered-only air inside the exhaust, so no odor leaks. What I'm saying is that still isn't very effective it seems. I'm currently considering getting a Vaportek Optimum 4000 for a whole-house fix. Everything I've read seems positive, and these forums even mention some supply company where you can (or at least could) get it for cheap. Unless anyone chimes in with something vastly better, that will be my next purchase.

what if I put ona in my grow room? would that help? just wondering if I put it in my grow room would that help out intill I can afford a better brand filter?

I too run a can 50 for a tiny 6X3ft area for 800watts of light. heavy bitch though. with carbon filters they need proper contact time with the air. Heat and humidity are killers for carbon filters.

k well im going to keep the inline fan on now at all times.. now if I put in a ona in my grow room would that help at all?

or could I put in one of those fabreez plug in oder things? or maybe just spray my pre filter on the carbon filter with fabreez would that help out?
