Hey everyone,
Yesterday I setup a new small 2x2 tent. I currently have an ACE killer A5 Haze at about a month in veg (2 gal container) that I transplanted into a new soil mix.
We are in a small condo so I don’t have room for bales of peat, so I tried to make a super soil with what I had available, but now I’m concerned the mix might not be quite right and I have a few questions.
The total mix volume is right at 15 gallons /2cubic foot ... put in a 15 gallon smart pot that I’m considering trying no till on.
I’m estimating here but the soil mix consists of about 50% promix HP w/ myco, 20% happy frog, 20% EWC (mostly home made from my worm bin but a little bagged also), and about 10% additional perilite.
To that I added 3 cups of an amendment mix consisting of equal parts neem seed meal, crab meal, kelp meal, and Dr earths tomato/veggie granular (a mix of fish bone meal, fish meal, alfalfa, kelp, feather meal, rock phosphate, with 1% Humic acid, and with bennies and mycos).
For minerals I added 2 cups of azomite
Then for liming I used 1 cup oyster shell flour, 1/2 cup powdered gypsum, and probably around 3/4-1 cup dolomite.
Finally I did add about 10-15 red wigglers from my worm bin to the smart pot and I plan today to go to get some alfalfa or Timothy hay from the pet store to mulch the top and work in installing blumats for watering with straight RO water.
My questions:
1) My main concern is that I might have added to much lime, oyster shell flour, and gypsum for the mix.
2) I’m wondering if 3 cups amendments for 15 gallons of soil is a little light? Maybe I should add another cup as a top dress??
3) only two cups of azomite I think is a bit light, but I want to try to track down another source and add another two cups as a top dress and mix it in. Maybe basalt, Rick phosphate or greensand??
Thanks for any help or insight you organic gurus could offer, as mentioned mainly Im worried I over amended the lime, OSF and gypsum and not sure if I’ll be ok in that regard.
