need help wiring a S&P

I just got a S&P TD100x fan, my question is can i strip a 14g extension cord to bring power to it?
or should it be a different gauge to ensure there is no overheating with the ext. cord?
the fan is 120v 60Hz

i want to get this cab together this weekend, so any input would help out so much, as i have searched for the last 2 hours with google, and on here and cant find anything other then one guy saying he plugged his S&P into a fantec speedster controller, then the controller has its own cord. but when i looked it up you have to plug a cord into the controller so once again that doesnt help as i dont have a cord coming out of the fan.

thank you so much for even reading this, i have been on here for the last couple of months reading obsessively , and you guys have tons of knowledge.

Yes you can splice a 3 pronged extension cord onto that fan and have it work properly without fear of over heating. The cord is grounded which is a benefit. But use the proper wire caps and electrical tape to be safe. Also how many amps does this fan use when running?

I've got a 1500 watt space heater and several 500 - 300 watt lamps, all UL wired, with 16 gauge. While local laws sometimes call for 12g, the NEC allows 14g as interior wiring. You'll be fine

Nice, the 14 shall be fine. do you have them all on one breaker? im on a 15 and also have a heater but was planning on running an ext. cord from another room. thanks for the reply, your freezer is sick, and you give alot of good advice.

NO!!!

The lamps referred to are floor lamps spread through the house. The room with the space heater has a 300 watt lamp as well; I have to choose between them. Running both pops the breaker every time.

There are formula's for determining proper loads and breakers but, I'm not the guy who has them on hand.

Home Depot also sells 9' 120v cords. One end has a grounded AC plug while the other has 3 exposed wires. They cost less than $10 and are ideal.

Your fan draws just over a quarter amp and you can easily run 12 amps on that cord.

Just keep it as short as you can. The longer the cord, the more resistance.

I'm still looking around for a grommet that fits the hole where the AC cord enters.
Can't believe they didn't include the grommet with the S&P fan. Grr!

Where did you guys order the fans from? Would be nice to know so we can request a cord or avoid them!

I think it's a factory thing rather than a re-seller. Some fans come with cords, others don't.

S&P fans are WAY cheaper....and they are made for electricitians to hook up.

I just bought 2 150's (6") for $127 each.
They are WAY QUIET also.
My 150s are 2 speed so you wire them with the "HOT" lead connected to a terminal strip HI or LOW and it runs at that speed.
They can also be wired HI speed and then speed controlled.

The plastic models need no ground and provide no terminal for ground.

I bought mine here; http://www.hvacquick.com/spfnconfig.php?fm=td
I personally like that it comes unwired, it lets the user choose the fan speed(low/high) without having to purchase a fan controller and takes only seconds to remove the cover and rewire to do so.

Home depot sells many 120v cords that work perfect, ranging from $10-$21. Here is a more expensive milwaukee brand. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...Id=10053&productId=100085363&N=10000003+90012
Comes stripped with wires exposed on one end and 120v ac plug on the other.

Should be a good match.

I'm thinking about getting the TD-100x for a small grow cab. A cab something like 24''W,16''D,42+"H. What kinda setup you got going on?
