NEED HELP W/VEG GROWTH

hI GUYS THIS IS MY FIRST GROW,HOW LONG IS VEG GROWTH?wHEN DO I SEX PLANTS?MY GIRL ARE IN 16OZ CUPS,HOW LONG BEFORE I TRANSPLANT?THEY HAVE THERE FIRST SET OF LEAVES,VERY SMALL.I AM GROWING SK 1 AND BB.ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED..I NO I AM ASKING A LOT OF QUESTIONS BUT I DONT WANT TO SCREW THIS UP.I HAVE THE UNDER FLORO NOW BUT JUST GOT A 400W MH TODAY SO WILL START TOMMOROW W/THAT.. PLEASE HELP A NEW GUY...

whats happening,newbie?
well this is what i would do..leave them in the 16oz cups till the 4th set of leaves appear.top them,then transplant into 1 gal containers.veg till they reach the hieght of 16-18"s.if your lucky pre flowers would of showed themselves by now,if not flip to 12/12 lightcycle.in 7-10 days sex will show.
when this is determined transplant into bigger containers,2-3 gal.

im stoned.. ....anyhow when i say 4th set i mean true fan leaves,not the smaller baby leaves.or the six set...depends on you,really.
make sure to raise the hood to at least 18"s over the tops of the seedlings.and a nice breeze on your yougins will help dispurse heat and thicken up the stalk

nodes are the places the leave stick out from. when you have four sets of leaves, cut the top off with a razor or sharp scissors above the fourth set. that is topping.

looking for preflowers is one way to check for gender. another method is to change the light cycle to 12-12. this is called force flower.

yes,4 new growth sights will emerge from the main stalk and the stem of the leaf.thus instead of having one main stalk you will have 4.
to top the plant you must pinch out the inner most growth that is coming from the center of your plant.
usually you can tell the sex from preflowers.males look like a little ball sitting on top of a stalk,kinda like the spade.females look like a tear drop with 2 tiny hairs sticking out.you will find these preflowers wear the stalk and stem of a leaf meet.
to reach that hieght it will take about 4 weeks give or take a few days.
400 watts is fine.mh is great for veg growth and the first 2 weeks of flowering,keeps the stretch down.
but i would get a hps conversion bulb for the flowering cycle.

ditto ram, unless the mh has an x3 line (on the ballast transformer) if so, the best thing to do is to add a hps ignitor, and run a regular hps bulb.

howlong veg takes is up 2 you realy....it depends on the space you have, yield you want, and other reasons...but most plants need 4 a 5 weeks veg @this time you will be abe or almsot able to sex the plants ...you must know that some plants stretch in flower ....2 or 3 times there size....so if you have hight issues dont veg that long.....

and if you want 2 repot then you should carefully take out the rootmass...you will see if it need 2 be transplanted.....after a while you will be able 2 see it by eye.....when rootmass grows the soil shrinks in the pot and it will be obvious in time.....it will come to ya....

try and learn the lifecycle of the plants first ....meanwhile,read read read.....then start topping and the other stuff ...and for most.... keep it simple !!....and buy a ph meter if you dont have 1

Man I just wrote a longass response,1 tap in the wrong place and you're offline lol,so here it is in short version lol.You say right now they are under flo's?If they are tube flo's like a 4 ft shoplamp,the ultimate seedling fixture,keep them under there until 4-6 inches in height.Its of utmost importance to have the plant tops no more than 1/4 inch from the lamps,when they get bigger if the topmost fans grow into the lamp no harm done,just bend it down a skosh.Keep that growthtip right under the lamp 1/4 inch or closer and you'll get better results than with a MH IMO.Flo lighting is absolutely the best for seedlings and new clones IMO,so long as you're keeping the lamps literally on top of the babies.After 4-6 inches in height the flo's lose their advantage of HID's,but used properly they are superior for the younguns IMO.That first poster gave you some excellent advice about when to transplant by the way,I'd keep them in the cups until I moved them from underneath the flo's,maybe 10 days-2 weeks or so.Keep those lamps close!!
