need healthy plants! need to correct problem quick!

i know the dosage tonight might still be too high of ppm but being that they were probably locking out due to the high EC and ppm. they were just flushed and probably are hungry since they werent able to take up any nutrients the past couple days

tonights feeding of coco A&B, 6 mL / GAL Rhizotonic is 930 ppm 1.9 EC and pH 5.8 with 15% runoff measuring 1130 and 2.3 EC so definately could be a lockout due to high EC in the soil the past couple days. seems like the flushing will definately help with lowering the salts in the coco.

I think you are on the right track there bootlegskate. I remember reading that run-off within 250 ppm above what you put in is about right. The ph of your run-off is good, so the nutes should be available. I think you are about to watch them take off.

....this might be the culprit.....if you look at your chart at the very bottom of it...there's noted....

**values base on trucheron meter

that means its converted to 0.7 per EC not the usual 0.5 conversion....

if you are basing yourself on PPM's you are giving way to much...if you are using EC then you should be golden....
NWay just trying to help ....

WOAH... mine are twice the size and I only give em EC 1.30 max.... I may be underfeeding as much as your overfeeding...(I've been wondering about this lately) - I use coco and canna A+B, Cannazym and Rhizo.. what I found with using the Rhizo continuously is, that it send the pH very high and as a result I need a lot more pH down to compensate... this is not good..so I stopped in week 3

p.s - from the coco handwatering thread - the advice is to flush once per week or just water with pH'd water once every 3 feedings if you don't run much off usually... the more the coco dries, the more salt it retains, same when you don't allow for much run off...

hope it helps..

Core: im not really understanding what you are trying to say, could you explain better? thanks

Jamie: thanks for your input, i agree about your acid statement, less is better. that handwatering coco thread is great!!! again thanks for your input

my tap water to begin with has a very high ppm and EC so its hard to get the right amount of nutes correct

I've heard that a good way to start off in a good place is to mix 1/5 distilled water to bring down the pH and EC of the starting levels and then add feed. (somebody might already have suggested this)

best of luck

edit - also - the other day - someone pointed out to me that the cannacalculator has a custom water hardness option.. you might know about that already too

edit2 - I think Cor is reffering to the fact that different meter manufacturers use different scales to convert PPM to EC - quote from milwaukee "When measuring a hydroponics solution in TDS it is recommended that the conversion formula TDS in ppm X .70 ( 442 Factor ) in stead of the usual .5 for aqueous solutions to obtain the equivalent EC reading." (from - http://www.nuganics.com.au/faq/ec-–-tds-general-information-sheet/)

Core means: PPM is a value based off of a mathematical calculation which is done inside the meter itself. Whereas EC is ALWAYS EC METER TO METER

The main confusion when using PPM as a basis between 2 growers comparing nute schedules is your meter *may* use a different conversion factor. I have seen 0.5(Hanna), 0.68(Milwaukee brand) and 0.7(Truncheon) conversions. You need to know which one you are using, which is why I tend to always amend my PPM readings for example:

X PPM at 0.68 conversion OR X PPM(insert EC here)

CRIPES, Jamie beat me to it lol

haha he beat you to it! Jk. Thanks for the explanations. I'm using the blue lab combo meter so I guess it's the 0.7 conversion factor. I always try to note ppm and EC. I will be posting some more pics and data tonight.

And that's what I get for lurking instead of interacting. Hope I didn't steer you wrong bootlegskate. My meter is an HM TDS meter, the cheap one. I didn't buy it and don't know the conversion, sorry.

Thanks everyone for the education and being helpful.

I think those babies are going mature nicely.

Abja does you coco dry out, say the top inch of coco, before you water again or do you keep your coco wet always? my plants are on raised trays so they drain out well.

The top layer stays moist, but not sopping wet. If I were to pick up a clump and squeeze it. I would not want much water to come out of it. I keep it covered with a layer of Hydroton or perlite, so it doesn't dry out under the lights. Which can lead to a white residue of salt building up.

Watering is a personal thing. I always try to be aware of available oxygen and reducing any stagnant water. Healthy roots etc...

Good Luck.

At approximately 12:15PM, I begun watering.
The reservoir reading before watering was: 890-900PPM (going back and forth on ppm meter), 1.8 E.C., and had a pH of 6.1. I then proceeded to lower the pH to 5.8.

I then recorded almost all of the runoff for the plants. Most came out ok. If I got a high reading, I would run more through and take a second reading.

PPM E.C. pH
970 2.0 5.6
1330 2.7 5.6 (this was from the worst looking C.M.
->1040 2.2 5.8 (arrow indicates second reading from above reading)
1010 2.0 5.8
1040 2.1 5.7
1060 2.1 5.7
1120 2.3 5.8 (although a little high, plant looked good. Ran a little extra through)
1090 2.2 5.8
1360 2.8 (SSH looked good)
->1140 2.3
1010 2.1
1040 2.1
1060 2.1 (stopped taking readings of pH... everything seemed ok in that department)
1430 2.9
->1140 2.3
1310 2.6
->1150 2.4 (this SSH looked good)
980 2.0 (TW)

and for the pics!

no worries bobblehead, you have been one of the biggest influence in this thread and i appreciate it, a LOT! im sure the ppms between our meters is a little off but oh well, its the fact that it was just too high ! haha

YES! again thanks EVERYONE for their :2cents: its good to hear everyones input on what they think the problem is. makes it a lot easier to diagnose!
i sure hope so, trying to go for a good run this time. i have had a lot of problems in the past with my setup but now it looks to be pretty much complete.
out for now.

thats the way mate.. get them run offs looking more like what you put in and the jobs a good un (I think )

I don''t sweat a raise of .1 or .2, I just feed pH'd water only once per week to make sure I'm keeping things "clean"

example: my White Widow EC in .9 EC out 1.0 ... sounds good to me.. (white widow is a notoriously light feeder)

don't get me wrong, I'm still a total newbie... but I've been studying this EC thing til I'm blue in the nuts..along with pH it is THE key to coco growing (as far as I can tell - lol I've still gotta finish mine without killing any..lol)

pics for todays update haha

they are looking a lot better but the lower growth at the lower nodes seems small while the top foliage is getting a lot bigger. ???? anyone have input?

fuck the charts....i say never go over 900 ppm's with a feeding.....even in coco....or if you got a real monster on ya hands.....these plants need about 500- 700 ppm's...not more....they can handle more but thats not needed.....ime

heres an update for today, new growth is looking a LOT! better

the first four are all of SSH (Super Silver Haze-Bubba Dutch pheno) and the last pic is of CM (Critical Mass)

this guy looks worse in the pic than in person, i think it was just hit harder and taking longer to recover as the new growth looks better than the lower foliage, any inputs on this guy ???
