Need diagnosis help - seedling leaves going brown

This OP has premixed potting soil nutes, that is burning his little seedling

but go ahead and feed it more, makes no difference to me if you kill your plants

Where is the dark green foliage? Where is the leaf curl? Where are the burnt tips?

Dude, If you think that plant is full besides hungry...I dont know what to think about the rep system here. Not that it matters...Im just saying.

Anyone who grew for a while knows burning doesnt mean half the plant yellows up.

still cant get round all u lot that use premix soils an think they are nute free lol.
im not arguing with u but that promix has feed in it.
you go and buy some pure canna coco or coco slabs they have no feed in it at all, zero, zilch not a fuckin drop of anything but fungal shit to help roots an stop deseases, try to grow plants in that without feeding them. good luck is all i can say. they will last maybe 5 days (ive tried it before) or do i have to go an plant seeds an prove it to you with a full on diary.
anyways nuff off all the shit at the end of the day he should flush out the the old nutes an feed with fresh WEAK liquid ferts an that should help. its obvious the soil hes using is not up to the job.

I do know worm castings are food ! when I start my seeds I put them in peat pucks and there can noy be much food in them??? after 3 or 4 weeks then I transplant to a mix like pro mix and worm castings with extra perlite. I normally wait for their first set of leaves to start to yellow before I transplant them.As for worm castings we have a worm farm in my area I get 50 pounds of them for 4 bucks ,what a deal!!!

BiodegradablePpeat Pellets made of Canadian sphagnum peat moss permit abundant aeration, uniform drainage and easy root penetration. Peat Pellets are made with small amounts of lime (balances pH) and fertilizer (to help seedlings get started). These compact pellets swell up when water is applied to form round pre-dibbled growing pots. The peat is held together by a biodegradable mesh net and can be transplanted with the seedling when roots push through the netting. Transplant shock is greatly reduced because the entire pot can be planted without disturbing the roots.

All depends on what your soil has in it.
I've had some seedlings in FFOF soil before (a soil usually considered on the hot side) that turned out yellow cotyledons just days after sprouting, when the next set of leaves began to yellow I fed 1/4 to 1/3 strength nutes and all was well again.

I like a lot of perlite in the soil though - keeps it very airy with good drainage so you aren't always worried about overwatering - the initial pictures don't look like an overwatered plant though - the first one looks like nute def. and the second one could be a def maybe caused by lockout from the bad soil?

How does it look so far?

there's been a lot of excellent posts in this thread and I thank everyone who has contributed so far, whichever side of the fence you're on :)

But remember this is simply about diagnosing a friend of mines seedling problem, so there's no need for things to get personal, fellasl :)

Peace, and many thanks again for everybodys input, it is very much appreciated because this is my friends first grow! :)

Cheers

Now I know I dont have a bunch of dots... and I sure as hell havent been growing for long.. maybe 3 years.. however I have read a lot. And I have descent sucess...

That plant needs N. It is not nute burned one bit.

Dr dog.. How many ppm is your water? I bet there is just enough to feed your seedlings in your water even tho im sure your soil has minimal nutes..

This guys problem is clearly not enough N. And the people recomending ffof.... FOr a seedling.. are you serious. that stuff WILL burn a seedling. I recomend Fox Farm Light warior.. OR rapid rooters. You dont have to spend a milion dollars.. Get a bag of straight perlite. and a bag of vermiculite. 50/50 mix.. bam cheap and simple mix.

As far as the npk ratios... mentioned earlier I dont know about that.. I mean a 1-5-5 is great for seedlings and premote roots. but still has enough N,
I really think its a matter of PH maybe the water or the soil the N is just not avail to the plant..

Can you pls do us all a favor and look at your bag of "keeping it simple" soil.. that is clearly killing your plant. and let us know what the NPK of the bag is..

and a ph meter is not optional fancy equipment.. its a must.. All you need is litmust test strips for like 3 dolars. or one fo the droper ones. You can find them in pool sections or aquarium sections of most stores if not a local hydroponic store..
I bought a tds meter and a ph meter off ebay for under 30 bux for both of them.. yea they are not top of the line but they get the job done.

I know this thread is old but I couldn't resist.

No nutes

No nutes

They look fine to me..

Edit: Yes those are jiffy peats sitting on top of coco (an inert medium - no nutes.. at all)

There are no nutes in MY soil. I have promixHP and nothing else.

Incorrect, both of you. Dr. in your gallery it shows you using peat pellets also. They DO HAVE NUTRIENTS. I'm actually shocked you didn't know that. Not very much, but enough to get them through the first few weeks. Pro-Mix HB has starter nutrients added as well as does the rest of their mixes.
Check out this chart from their site. http://www.premierhort.com/eProMix/Horticulture/Products/pdf/eProCompChart.pdf

Why are you not listening to some very obvious good information? Burnt Rope is trying to explain about the feed gauge, which is very important. The cotyledons will ask for what the plant needs so pay attention. Don't be distracted by what you think it needs.

grimweeder is most likely right on by assuming both an over and underfed plant due to ph lockout.
He also explained that there is only one cure. FLUSH AND FEED LIGHTLY! As well as change soil since this likely caused the problem in the first place. Either way I imagine its dead by now?

Save yourself and everyone else the headache and give up growing all together. If you can't get past the seedling stage your really gonna be in the shit during veg.

Just Kidding!! lol

I know you already have seeds started and that's good but can I recommended a book? The Marijuana growers bible by Jorge C.
It will give you enough information to complete a grow with minimal problems and help you diagnose proplems such as yours.

It's really not that hard to figure out but you do need some basic understanding.
I owned a pinto 30 years ago, it had a sun roof that leaked. We used to throw out seeds on the floor whenever we rolled J's in the car. One morning I got in the car and found a seedling growing from the carpet. I babied that plant for about two weeks until it finally fell over.
If a plant can grow in my carpet without nuets or soil, i'm sure you can get these seedlings fixed up.

Peace.
B
