Need all the advice I can get...

FC89 - DO double-check your seed descriptions... I believe Auto Afghani & RRF do just fine in 1 gal pots for good yield.

thanks for the tip so far goat, I've looked at the autoflower guide, and it says that RRF is good in 1 Gal pots, but couldn't they get bigger in a 2 gal? and Onyx is the other strain I have, they said to use a 3 or a 5. So I'll probably end up using the 3 gal for the onyx and the 2 gal for the RRF, but if there would there be a difference in yield if I use the 2 gal? Thanks for the help goat

haha, ill get the pictures as soon as I'm done the fridge... this insulation is such a pain...But I'll definitely try the 2 gals and see how we do! If we get a little limited on height I think I will LST to help from burning

Hopefully, your mini-fridge is a bar fridge & not one of those cubes used for dorm rooms...

I have an extra fridge outside where I keep cold beer (closer to the veggie garden) & quick-chill fresh milk (milking stand for the goats is just across the carport).

I'm a member of FreeCycle & always finding full-size fridges free for the asking/pickup... Now I'm contemplating picking one up just to experiment with a seedling room in the freezer compartment plus maturing AFs in the main compartment...

This could be interesting, cheap & totally stealth! I have a fridge, deep freeze, & upright freezer all lined up working in the carport... this could fit right in!

The fridge I have is almost exactly like KB's, but mine's a little bigger I think...So I would say its like a bar fridge without the see through door. Oh man the regular fridge idea would be awesome! Have a full functioning cab in a fridge, haha! Would be very very stealth. Try it out man, could only get better from there. I think I saw a thread somewhere of a dude who had a fridge, but just used the top compartment for the ballast and all the hardwire so it was fully stealth. But with a top for seedling and the main compartment, I'm sure you could probably run something with great results!

Hey guys, so instead of making a thread I figure I'd just bump this one. But things are slowly coming along, I received the 150w HPS, figured out how to wire my exhaust, and have yet to cut the holes in the fridge but I'll do that tomorrow. I have 2 100w 5500k CFL's, those should be adequate for vegging correct? I'll be going to the local hydro place tomorrow, gonna pick up the stuff for ICC's method. Today I bought a temp/humidity gauge I'm hoping that will be sufficient enough in the fridge box. So how do those things look so far guys? Any help is greatly appreciated for the first grower!

Are they actual 100w's or equivalents? If they are real 100w's then that will be more than enough to veg, you could even flower with them.

their equivs, i forgot to mention that haha. I only have 2 of them.they are linked there. In another thread KB told me it was enough, but I'm only have a 12" space, so I think I'm gonna position the bulb horizontally. I'm hoping they will be good for the first couple days while I finish up the fridge, but I also heard that CFL's are good for seedlings.

FC89, LST works GREAT with autos, and it will work at any stage of growth too, just go easy and slow when the stems gets harder, and do it before watering.

thanks for the info hisser, I probably will LST them if they get too big for the mini-fridge, I hear Onyx strain can get quite tall so I may have to LST them. I put 4 beans in water with a little superthrive yesterday, all 4 sunk down to the bottom! It's nearing 24 hours and I'm not sure whether to put them in soil (Fox Farms Ocean Forrest) or in paper towels until they show taproots then into soil, I have yet to see a tap root come out of any of the seeds. They are 2 RRF and 2 Onyx. I hear that soil is good, but paper towels also work well also. Any opinions anyone?

You'll be fine with those CFL's, thats over 3000lm for a sq. 1' which is fine for the first week or so, especially for AF's.

Just mounted the lights, they look pretty good in there. Enough space between the lights and the cups. I only have 1 red solo one though haha, the others I have are smaller and clear (not sure if it will affect roots), so I'll have to go buy some asap. I put the seedlings in water, its been 24 hours. I see a really really small taproot starting to show. I switched the water/superthrive mix and put them back in the water, when they have a good bit of taproot showing I plan on putting them in the solo cups. Does that sound like a good plan? I'm a total newb at germing so just dont want to mess it up cause beans can be expensive haha. Once again I cannot thank everyone who has posted up and helped me out.

I don't think they should still be submerged, as I gathered from your post. Sounds like you put them back in the water? If they've cracked open, they need air!

Keep in mind I am also a newbie...

they have just barely cracked, barely any of the taproot has come out. I can see a small bit of white. I'm waiting till the tap root comes out just a bit more, Not 1/4" big but just a bit smaller so it is safe to plant. If anyone has any other info, or agrees with PD lemme know asap! TY guys

Like Presto said, get em outta the water & onto moist paper towels. (On a saucer, inside a blown up Ziploc bag is good) until you decide what you're planting in!

Note for future - get your soil & cups lined up before germing...

Cheers & good luck!
