Need a good cloning gel...any advice?

I'm not ready to clone yet but want to be ready with all the info i can get.
i've seen the "gel" and "powder" versions and want to know which is best.
also is there another option? i've also seen "ferti-lome" root stimulator but i dont know if that would work.
some of the cloning products are pretty exspensive, any other choices?
thanks all. be cool

Like globel says, Clonex or Olivias. I used to use Olivias because it was less expensive, but had good luck with both. I haven't tried Rootech. I clone with bubblers now, so cloning gel isn't needed.

Good growing!

STEP 1: Gather a handful of chopstick-size willow twigs. Fresh branches work best; avoid deadfall. Any variety of willow (salix) will work since they all contain the natural chemical IBA (indolebutyric acid) - a natural plant growth regulator. STEP 2: Chop the willow stems into 3-4 inch pieces with clippers or a cleaver. You should have about 2 cups of clippings to make a one gallon batch of willow bark rooting hormone. STEP 3: Place the chopped willow pieces in a large container and cover with 1 gallon of boiling water. STEP 4: Allow the prepared willow bark tea to stand overnight. The longer it steeps, the more IBA will be released into the water. STEP 5: Store the willow bark rooting hormone in the refrigerator in a sealed container. Label the container. STEP 6: Soak tip cuttings into the willow bark rooting hormone overnight prior to planting in soil. The IBA will infuse into the bark and stems encouraging rooting and inhibiting fungus, bacteria and viral disease. Overall Tips & Warnings
Willow bark rooting hormone will stay fresh up to two months in the refrigerator.
Water young plants with willow bark rooting hormone. The salicylic acid from the willow will help defend plants against bacteria, fungus and viral diseases.
Evidence shows that salicylic acid works by aiding the wound healing process. Absicsic acid is a stress hormone that all plants release in response to injury. It stops the movement of fluids through the system and shuts down' the injured area. The salicylic acid found in willow bark tea works to inhibit the wound response, hence allowing growth.

i'll try it soon as the sno is gone and see if there's anything to it. lol

I made a cheap bubble cloner from a clear plastic storage container, and some used aquarium supplies. It is heated and it bubbles and supposed to be 100% effective. I do not think I will need any rooting hormones again. It is nice to have something so effective and not have to buy expensive chemicals anymore.

To be honest, there are dozens of gels and powders to choose from at the shops here and few stand out if at all.

The most commonly available here is a product called Stim-Root. You can even find it at the hardware stores. It works excellent and the gel has an advantage even over most of the grow shop brands because it has a fungicide.

I like to buy their powder because it has shelf life and a bottle really goes far.

The powder comes in 1,2,and 3. 1 being for softer tissue and 3 being for woody. 1 is what you want.

WOW! thanks everyone!
sounds like the indole-3-butyric acid is the breakfast of champions, i'll look for a cloning product with this in it.
will it matter what % IBA it has? i found one that has 4% and another that has 55%...big difference.
Olivia brand didnt have the IBA in it, unless i missed it. but the rootech did.
thanks again everyone. be cool
p.s. WhyMe let us know if the willow mixture works or not. peace

Same for me (except I have no need to heat), did not use rooting hormone with the last batch and had first sign of roots in 5 days with no hormone.

gels work better than powders because they seal the cut and dont allow air or disease in. Ive even heard of totally organic vegan growers use honey with good sucess. I think cloning is more technic and environmental conditions ie..humid and moist more so than the brand rooting hormone you use.
