kids need more common sense...

I can't wait to be a parent~ I would stage a burglary and purposely have my wife wake up the kid and watch me either run off with it or smash it to bits in his face and scream "NATURE RULES!!!!"

maybe if we give them a form of amphetamine it will motivate them to go outside and pace around... maybe mow the lawn with a pair of scissors... hmmmm

pharma companies get your thinking caps on... how do you exploit this new one....

putting people in groups and labeling them with a problem is bullshit... i feel half the kids that are labeled "hyper active" and ADD or ADHD is a load of crap... sure give them an amphetamine, but god forbid they ever smoke!!!

ok im done... interesting topic though Yukon... im sure there will be some discussion.

Feed a kid a high sugar diet, let a t.v. babysit him during the formative years, ignore him to the point that he turns to video games for interaction and then wonder why he is fucked up. Go figure!

Can they put a slap to the face in a pill? Seems like they can do anything these days...

Why not put some laxatives in the kids food for a few days and tell him it's caused by the lack of exercise and being on the game so long.

Other than tending the garden, picking fruit, feeding the rabbits and calf, mowing the yard, irrigating the yard, garden and pasture, going fishing, hiking and hunting, and running 2 miles a day as a teen, I didn't get much time out in nature either. No wonder I'm so screwed up. Oh yes, now I remember, we didn't have t.v. until I was 10 and I didn't have a computer until I was over 40. No wonder I'm deprived!

Parents can't accept responsibility for their kids problems. They need some "syndrome" or disease to explain it away. Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, they'll probably develop a drug to overcome video game addiction. And there is plenty to do outside. No matter if you live in an urban area or a rural one, there is plenty to do besides just "kicking things".

By simply being outside you bring your spirits up and allow your body to absorb sun energy and fresh air. You don't even have to be specifically "doing" something to be outside. Anything to get children outdoors and allow them to appreciate nature is a good thing. Yes, video games are fun but no one teaches balance in this world, something either is or is not. Parents need to get outside with their children and show them about the world of nature. When I was younger my father would take us fishing, hiking, etc. even something as simple as playing catch in the front yard can spark an interest in sports and physical activity that will lead from a child to a productive adult. I'm not saying that people who play video games all the time will turn out bad, but we need to appreciate both the luxuries and technologies we have as well as hard work and nature. Hell, we wouldn't be here without glorious nature.

Seriously, parents out there: Teach your kids about the outdoors, my father instilled a love for fishing that has not ceased to exist in my life and I am thankful every day for it.

Well... time to fire up a joint and go chop some wood.

Boxy: I guess it depends on what you consider fun. Just throwing the frisbee with my buddies is fun for me, even chopping wood like I'm about to do can be fun. But I have to agree with the xbox 360 and the HDTV, I just bought MLB 2K7 and BOY is that a fucking fun ass game, I can play it for hours.... gotta love new technologies.

I heard something today about kids under age six having personal trainers. Sheeeesh just take them to the playground.

What training does a six year old need where you must hire someone with specialized skills to train them? There must be a new way way way feather weight boxing league so they gotta practice them jabs and hooks?

Boxy: Gears of War is such an amazing game, they took the concept of team play games and brought it into an entirely new arena. NHL 07 always has my heart, I love hockey and I love games so they go hand in hand. Just don't spend too much time in there you may forget about your plants. :joint:

No freakin' shit, they'll come up with a pill for it, just give it time. After all, energetic kids are drugged up now instead of being taught to utilize proper outlets for that energy. My younger brother & I grew up inventing games to play with our basketball, football, baseball stuff, etc. We were wound up first thing in the morning, but by the end of a full day of constant play to release all that pent up energy, we settled down pretty well. I garuntee if I was that age again now with that much energy, doctors would be trying to cram a pill down my throat to "calm me down". Same with WolfSpider, if he had grown up today instead of in the 70's & 80's, he'd have been a textbook example of an ADD kid.
Thank god I grew up with responsible parents, they never let us plop in front of the damn tube, and we didn't have so much as computer games, much less a game console. We were told to play outside until we were worn out. The vast majority of my childhood was spent outside with the neighborhood kids doing what normal kids were supposed to do then, and should be doing now---playing.
Unfortunately, today, physical activity for kids is some sort of parental pseudo-enemy.

I agree, exercise is the best way to burn of that energy and helps you focus when you need to. outta control kids are just putting their energies in the wrong direction is all.

I'm concerned that this seeming desire to "have a disease" is some kind of hidden agenda thing. I heard that with the new gun laws that involve mental health checks... even someone with something like ADHD as a child would not be able to own a gun. With so many people identifying as having some kind of health issues being labeled with some kind of disorder is common. Some people wear it as a badge. I got bipolar or fatigue syndrome and so on

I would do what ever I could to avoid being in their system with these kinds of conditions. Assuming I was still capable of looking after myself. Am concerned about where this might be going
