Natural Vs. Artificial

halogen isn't good for plant growth. it just gives heat.
The halogen that I got isn't a regular halogen. it looks like a regular light bulb but with a low wattage halogen inside. I got it in the garden section. It said 53 watt = 100 watt output full spectrum bulb for indoor growing. It does produce more heat than the CFL's which produce basically no heat but so little that It stays in my closet and does not heat the area enough to worry about fire or anything. I was surprised. Whatcha think?

If it's really a halogen, it will provide lots of light in the far red...great for supplementing HPS too, actually, but halogens are pretty inefficient.

Oops, that pic is huge, but since I'm a n00b on this account, I can't edit my post. :( Sorry guys.

Here a Pic

Here a Pic

I was able to get a pic even with it running. see how confined the space is but the amount of heat coming from it is minimal. but u can see the halogen bulb inside. it also said that it wouldn't cause and radio interference because it was only 53 watts. Does that help any heres a pic.

that must be a xenon or something else than halogen if was sold as plant light.

but really, you don;t know what you are buying? why do you buy them if you don't even know what type of bulb they are and what spectrum? and don;t they have model numbers written on them to check them online?

And that is why I asked because I had never seen a halogen grow bulb before either...... but I know it said because I read the package.....Low wattage halogen that is 53watt with a 100 watt equivalent output full spectrum.

It will work well with the 5000~K CFLs actually. Do you have a fan blowing on your plants?

What are you planning on doing for odor control?
Not Sure....... do you think it will smell that much? I mean out of the out of the 15 plants that I have growing only a few would be female because I did use bag seeds. Then I would try to sex them early and get rid of the males leaving me with only a few and not much of a odor issue.

even 1 single plant will stink up a small/medium apartment when in full bloom. and it's better to plan ahead than to have problems.

Yup, you absolutely want to look into odor control. Pick up a 6" fan and can filter. It may seem pricey, but this probably won't be your last grow. ;) I am very glad I bought a 4" carbon filter and fan, but now wish I'd just gone with the 6" in the first place.

Females stink. If you have 6 flowering females in an apartment, its going to stink to high hell, even if they are small. I stunk up close to 8000 sq feet of house with 7 big plants in a room within a room, in my basement, not connected to the HVAC in any way with 2 windows and good circulation. You are in an apartment in NY, I'd suggest a carbon filter and at the very least an ozone generator and a lot of incense.

Definitely go for the carbon filter. Based on your post I'm guessing you're not in the NYC/Long Island area.

Yup I'm about 60 miles north outside the city in suburbia. There's really no one around who cares as long as I don't advertise. How much is a 6" carbon filter with a fan vs. getting a ionizer?
