How much do you need? You can buy emergency blankets at WalMart in the camping section for about $2, they are mylar.

wow really? thats cool. Im doing a smaller scale closet rubbermaid grow 235gal rubbermaids. Is mylar the best you think? i really didn't think painting it would be any better, and mylar should block light out ya?

the wally world ones are just a huge 5'x7' sheet of mylar and they have been great for the applications i have implemented them in.

just an FYI
the emergency blankets aren't mylar --plus w/all the folds in em they don't refelct as well --light & heat traps, plus its easy to crimp and crease and tear---thus even more light traps etc.
They're not bad, esp for small area to grow--just not as reflective as a flat surface w/flat white paint.
Mylar is only a little more reflective than flat white paint
Mylars a lot easier to clean than blankets (I certainly know from experience!)
Like said though, they're not bad for small areas--though you do have to monitor temps and fluctuations (they're emergency HEAT blankets :joint: )

Peace love & hairgrease

why is it labeled MYLAR EMERGENCY BLANKET then??

and real mylar is NOT easy to clean as it is delicate and will most often scratch when cleaning, which my emergency blankets do, and mylar is also 90-95% reflective, ....more than a white paint.

i will agree with you on the folds in them which kind of shoot light randomly sometimes, and the heat retention isnt enough for me to complain, over the winter it actually helped.

im not trying to be a jerk but i know because i read the package and have researched mylar vs. white paint :joint:

Well i got an emergency blanket from wal mart cept they didn't have anything that actually said mylar. But the stuff i got is pretty shiny only problem is my box glows! What can i get to lightproof this bitch!

Spray the outside with Krylon Fusion paint - it's designed for use on plastics and pretty reasonable at $4 a can.

I'm sorry, I missed your post asking if it would light proof the box....obviously not. Have you checked out Red Greenery's grow thread in Micro grows?
Well actually there are a many good threads on rubbermaid grows there. Or as Sandman said paint the outside.

Homedepot DOES carry mylar

Its called "reflectix insulation"; its basically bubblewrap with mylar on it. Its very effective and better than regular mylar, imho. The dimpled surface increases surface area and reduces hotspots; its also VERY durable.

a 16 In. x 25 Ft. roll will cost $15
a 24 In. x 25 Ft. roll will cost $21
a 4 Ft. x 25 Ft. roll will cost $42

pontiac, i think that overall, the mylar stuff you posted might be cheaper for the size, and has those dimples and not the fold lines.

do you how well that works as lightproofing?

Reflectix is great. I didn't suggest it because you needed such a small amount, you have to buy this by the roll. But it is some good stuff!!!!! Easy to work with, you can staple gun it to your walls, won't tear.

It's at Lowes or Home Depot one and I think maybe the smallest is $35. But you can always save what's left for other projects.

Does anyone have experience using Polyshield?

Can this be used as a effective reflector for walls or is it only good for heat proofing?

Any info would be great.
