My very first grow : Bagseed and BKGK

Howdy. Total noob here. I just wanted a place where I could post about my first grow and get some feedback from you guys and gals along the way.

I started with some very old Moscas C 99 seeds that never popped. I guess they were to old. I had included a bag seed that I got from a friend, and it popped. So, with only one viable seed, I started germinating five BKGK seeds. Out of the five, three popped after just 24 hours in the damp paper towel. I planted the two that had not popped along with three that had. Only the three seeds that that had popped ended up breaking dirt.

Growing in Fox Farms Bush Doctor Coco Loco. Water PH 6.0 - 6.5. I achieved this PH level by mixing 1/4 gallon tap water with 3/4 gallon RO water.

So, I've got one bag seed and three BKGK babies. This makes the bag seed one week older than the BKGK babies.

I bought a cheap fluoro at the hardware store and these babies seem to be loving it. I have a tiny tent (36 x 20 x 63) that stays at a steady 50% - 60% humidity. Temps are steady between 75 and 80 Fahrenheit. Small 6" fan is circulating the air. I built a home made light baffle out of cardboard boxes that is working very well. Its nice to keep my closet door open at night and not be bothered by light coming from my closet.

I have a 4" Ventech inline exhaust fan (rated at 190cfm) in the attic, a straight shot up from the top of the tent. No bends. Insulated ducting.

As of now, I only have a 150watt HPS fixture to put them under when they come out of the seedling stage. I know that this is "do-able", but not idea. I hope I get lucky and can afford to buy the 400 watt dim-able ballast kit that I'm looking at. Its a cool tube light with a switchable ballast, comes with bulbs for veg and flower. Being on disability can certainly have its financial draw-backs.

Anyhow, The bag seed was planted exactly one week ago today. How does it look for a 7 day old? I would really appreciate your feedback.

Hi, the cup on the left is further ahead of the cup on the right. Did u start them at different times?

Is that water on the leaves, on the cup on the left?

Is ur medium 100% coco, or is there soil in it too?

What is the bkgk.

Yes. That is water on the leaves. I had just misted them before I took the picture. As stated in my original post, they are exactly seven days apart. The bag seed is one week older than the rest. Soil is 85% coco and 15% pearlite. This is BKGK.

Very nice! U r in for a treat it seems.

Since ur in coco, never straight water. Always use a nute that is tailored for coco. ph 5.8 is the sweet spot. u will have probs if u keep it at 6.5. 1.0 to 1.2ec at 5.8ph is all u need to rock coco.

I use gh 6ml micro and 9ml bloom a gallon in ro water and it comes out perfect. But any decent coco nute will do at these rates and ph.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Good luck bro. You are in for a treat with BKGK.

Here is the clone mom. Big ups to P and DF!

Great news! My elderly mom stepped in to help me out. She is a chronic pain sufferer. So, she ordered the light that I'm going to need. I will give her some of the harvest in exchange for the light. (No, I don't live with my mother! lol). Anyway, this will be here in the next 3-5 days. At this point I will now have everything that I need to do this right. Proper humidity, temps, ventilation, and light setup. ;)

Okay, glad to see some BKGK surface.

But that leads to some questions.... ;)

Originally - for all correct records, Retardo Motabon made the pre-98 Bubba Kush x Grape Krush seeds...

Phillthy sorted some that he received as freebies with an order from Seedbay - and found what became known as the "BKGK" cut / clone.

I still have some original seeds that Retardo made in the vault - and I did make a Bx1 of the particular pheno that Phillthy had found.

So - that leads to the question: Are these original seeds that Retardo made from back in '08 or are these Bx1 seeds from Stank Bros...OR...are these a few seeds that were found in flowers from the "BKGK" clone...

------------

There were several different phenos in the original Bubba x Grape Krush. Most were 50/50 purple green - high resin output and slightly looser flower structures. Flavors were fairly consistent...but the real standout was the clone that was kept. It was a bit more bubba leaning I guess you could say, but it also had additional vigor from the Grape Krush - and had a bit more a musky grape flavor blended in.

Phillthy's "BKGK" clone:

Just to be clear - if you are sorting original stock from Retardo - you might find several different expressions unlike what became known as "BKGK" via the clone Phillthy pictured so frequently. But there is true gold in that seed stock for sure. Retardo did an excellent job with his selection of the Grape Krush male...some of my absolutely favorite seeds ever gifted to me came from the work he did with it.

Can't wait to see what you find!!! :lurk:

Very nice. Looks like u r on your way. I will be watching this grow.:watchplant:

Thanks, Stoneyherbs! I hope that I don't disappoint.

dank.frank. I cannot go into details about the origin of these BKGK seeds out of respect for the grower who gave them to me. All I can tell you is that I have personally seen these plants in his grow room. Glorious looking flowers. Just like the pictures you have provided. I'm not sure by what means he acquired this plant but I know that it came from Philithy. The grower that I got them from liked the plant so much that he decided to pollinate a few of them so that he would have seeds.

Day 8 above ground for this little bag seed. Its getting its first set of mature leaves. Day two for the BKGK. I dedicate this post to the guy at my local grow shop that said that my fluorescent shop light was crap and no good for seedlings. Dude tried selling me a $400.00 LED panel. lol

I not asking who you got them from - I'm asking for a clarification on what the genetics are.

So, they are NOT original Bubba x Grape Krush seeds...

Are these S1's of Phillthy's BKGK cut then - and if not S1's then what was the male used? I'm just trying to figure out what you are growing.

Do you know if that cut is still be kept alive???

sweet way to get started. Why not just have your boy toss ya the original BKGK cut, sounds like he might still have it. That's the way I believe I would go bout it? 1

Ok. I'm a total noob at this, so I don't know a lot of details about the seed stock that was gifted to me. The bag that these BKGK seeds came in is marked BKGK BX1.

Got ya. Thanks for the clarification.

I know that Phillthy made and ran a few S1's of his cut and found a fatter yielding plant that was quite similar to the mom - but it didn't quite have the resin output so he never kept it around - but he was quite pleased overall with the end results of that...

So there might be some gold to be found in the S1's, but I'm not 100% on that. Interesting to say the least. Can't wait to see what you find!!

And if those seeds are marked as Bx1 - then those could be seeds that I made, and released via Stank Bros.

Should be BKGK x (BKGK x Digi Bx1)...unless someone else made a Bx1 of that same plant - and the only I know that would have taken the time to do such a thing is Retardo himself.

Here's the BKGK x Digi Bx1 male I used:

And what I'd call a keeper from the line:

Bkgk comin back... does ur boy have philthy cut alive n kickin still???? I bet few hundred ppl wanna know.,

dank.frank. Thank you for all of the information on the BKGK's history. I read another thread where you discussed the importance of properly noting the specific plant. I understand that you are passionate about it, and for good reason. Please edit the title of my thread for accuracy. You may also have this thread moved to wherever you fell is the appropriate section of these forums. Maybe it should be under under coco grows or grow diaries?
